Unsupervised Works Dicey – I recently engaged DRS long-distance to do some work on my new flat prior to moving in. Buying a flat long-distance even with the assistance of a broker is not ideal and the commissioning of work to be completed with no one in oversight is even less so but those were the only ways I could see to make things happen. The works I requested included: removing built in shelves and a gas wall heater with remedial plastering of the walls, correcting the flush of the lavatory, remediating the binding of two doors, the removal of a structure too small to encase my fridge and sanding and polishing of the floorboards which included removal of old carpet.

I was never given a proper quote for the floorboards as in price per area treated in spite of repeatedly asking for the measurements which DRS assured me they had taken. Indeed I even had to threaten to go elsewhere before I was issued with the unprofessional quote and an assurance the work would be completed before I moved with furniture from near the Qld border. Costs for disposal of carpet and other rubble were only added at the invoice stage. The walls were plastered correctly but done after the floors were sanded, adding plaster dust to the sanding dust. There was no cleaning done after these works in spite of me having asked for cleaning to be included. The flush of the toilet remains unsatisfactory even after getting DRS’ plumber back out. The binding doors were plained but not sanded smooth. Removal of the fridge structure left a screw protruding from the floor and remains of the fridge box left in the kitchen along with other rubbish from the works, only remediated when I complained.

Under supervision and with full renovation as the goal, perhaps DRS would work satisfactorily but in their absence, I felt distinctly disappointed.
