Dunlop Easy Clean Epoxy Grout

Awesome! – After renovating the bathroom due to a leaking shower I wanted to use an epoxy grout so I did not have to worry about any seal breakdown and leaks again over time. I was a bit nervous using epoxy as I was warned it was difficult to work with, I had no problems and it looks amazing, if you follow to the directions and mix small amount at a time you can't go wrong! I used fairly hot water and white vinegar for clean up and it worked a treat. :)
Great product! Works so well and has many benefits over cement-based grout – Our Bathroom - Contemporary Art deco style - 4x2m floor with sloped ceiling that slopes across bathroom from 3m down to 2m high. Floor tiles: 8m2 of hexagonal mozaic (thousands of them!) Wall tiles: 14m2 bevelled subway, 12m2 (standard subway) (Approx) Decorative: Skirting, pencil and capping tiles Shower niche and 2m long shelf on short wall.
I've used this product before on our previous bathroom, exactly the same design and tiles, but half as big. After some practice I have become quite proficient at using it. When I started the previous bathroom it was stressful as I would mix too much and it went off before I had time to use and also wipe off. It was summer too and the increased heat would speed up set time.
I have used 7 full lots of this product on our current bathroom. Tiling and grouting has taken me approx 5-6 weeks (I work full time 9-5) so all work has been on weekends and after work. It has been epic.
I now find the grout easy to work with - you can mix the batch as big or small as you like, and after one batch you get a feel for how much you can use before it goes off. Working high on the wall up a ladder was a little difficult, the mix had to be firm enough not to fall off (the wall and the trowel) but soft enough to be able to spread into the metres of spaces between small (75x150mm) tiles.
Just use warm water and a rough sponge to remove excess, and go over a few times after rinsing sponge. Takes most off. After a few hours I use a scourer with metho and rub off any misting and any other excess. This needs to be done within 8-12 hours or you'll have extra work removing it.
PROs: Strong - I found some places where I had to remove some tiles as I had laid them crooked - it is stronger than the tiles! I had to angle grind between tiles to prevent cracking and tearing other tile off the wall.
Waterproof - If you're tiling a wet room why wouldn't you want an extra waterproof barrier? I don't understand why you would want a porous cement grout that lets water penetrate beneath the tile...
Epoxy will save you time in the long run by not having to clean and seal regularly
It's going to give a lifetime of looking great, and staying waterproof and relatively stain free.
CONs A little expensive, we spent over $400 on grout, but when you're renovating a bathroom why skimp.
Anyway, I'll never go back to cement based traditional grout. Have fun tiling - I've now finished!
Epoxy grout super strong – After having a shower base that was cast into the concrete slab and was causing leakage problems I was getting to the stage of ripping it all out and putting in a pre-formed base. I had re-grouted a number of times and also used silicon on the edge joints, but it simply did not last. I had also used sealers that soaked into the grout and whilst these did make the grout watertight they could not improve grout cracking due to small tile movement when being stood on. Then I tried Dunlop Epoxy grout. I pushed it well down into the gaps and as far under the tile as I could. It has formed a really strong joint that stays nice and clean and watertight. This was the silver bullet for my shower-base. This product is not cheap but it has worked for me, and is so unlike grout, and much more like an epoxy glue with powder in it. I had been warned it was difficult to clean off the tiles but I did not have too much trouble with this as I cleaned as I went rather than letting it set up too much. Do yourself a favor, if you're doing a shower-base don't waste your time with normal grouts, as they'll leak and you'll be doing it over and over.
