Can I use decking oil (aquadeck) on this deck
No there is no need as the decking only requires a wash every 6 months with water and detergent
Hi Ian, just as David said there is no need to oil Ekodeck. In fact we would go so far as to say that we do not recommend using any oils or stains on Ekodeck due to the polyethylene component of its make up. A quick clean as per our Care & Maintenance is all that is required at least annually.
If Ekodeck classic is not high in stain resistance can you seal it?
Hi John, we don't recommend sealing Ekodeck Classic, as most products will not adhere to the boards due to the plastic component in them.
Most stains can be easily cleaned off using a pressure washer with a fan nozzle attachment!
Thanks for your reply. Sounds easy enough to clean off stains then. Just another question, why is the warranty different ie lower than the designer range?
Apologies for the delay John - the Designer Series has a longer warranty as it has the protective Durashell coating around the composite core, meaning it has increased resistance when compared to the Classic, as the Classic is considered to be a semi-porous product.
Hi there, i’m building a hexagon deck with 3 m sides, so the longest boards will be 5.2 meters across. I’m wondering given it’s a hexagon am I best going with traditional boards for this one and then using ekodeck for my next deck project? I need to do a 3 panel fascia and stairs so I presume i’ll need to use the classic series so I can topscrew ?
Hi Ben, It is completely up to you - being a hexagon it is a non-standard shape to what we typically see, but having said that we've been seeing some very creative uses of Ekodeck more and more of late! I can't see you having any issues using either the Designer Series or Classic boards - you can of course top fix the Designer Series boards here and there if necessary, especially for stairs etc.
All the best with your project and I look forward to seeing how you get on! Cheers
thankyou
Hi, Does Ecodeck reduce in length in the colder months? IS it ok to install and time of the year? Regards Adam
Hi Adam, Ekodeck will expand and contract with changes in temperature - which is the nature of all composites on the market. This will happen during cooler months, but also cooler mornings - think first thing in the morning (5-10 degrees) VS midday in full sun (30 degrees +) No issue installing at any time of the year, as per the installation guide - if installing on a cooler day, just leave a slight gap to allow for some room for when the boards expand on a hot day. There is a handy table on our installation guide which you can reference as a guide :)
Do you have to use the EKO clips? Or can you drill in and fix with screws like a regular deck?
You can drill and fix the traditional way if you like, however the Eko clips are much quicker and easier to work with . No pre- drilling and really makes the job go that much quicker and they also give a consistent 6mm spacing between lengths with no visible screws on top.
Thanks :) Would it affect any warranty if fixed with screws?
Hi, Yes - you can top fix our Ekodeck Classic boards without affecting the warranty. You cannot top-fix our Designer Series boards however. When top fixing, we recommend predrilling an over-size clearance hole, countersinking and then fastening using two 10g stainless steel fasteners of adequate length every 450mm But as Tony mentioned, much better using our Quickfix system!
Thanks all! So helpful!
Any time! :)
Are the 3mm space quickfix clips stainless steel and can u buy them in the 350m box
Hi Mark, Yes, all the components in our 3mm Quickfix system are marine-grade 316 stainless steel. I'm afraid they are only available in the 100m kits at this point in time.
The classic has no capping from what I can see. Do the boards need sealing
Hi Mark, No they don’t have a capping, which makes them able to be repaired by sanding if need be. Check out the following article explaining the differences between Classic and Designer Series here: external link There is no need to seal our Classic boards, even after they have been cut, ripped or sanded. They are naturally weather resistant due to the composite make up of the boards. :)
