Emirates Citibank Platinum

Great – Emirates points are an absolute bonus. Haven’t had any issues with the card at all. Quick responses online when asked how to use for lounge access. All the naysayers seem to be cut from the same cloth.
Tried applying for a credit card, total disaster by Citi bank – Tried applying 5 weeks ago. 1st fail, submit documents online not possible as the login code which was meant to be sent via SMS never arrived, Called and send docs via email and was given a different reference number, no explanation why. Fail 2 no response from Citi bank after 3 weeks, I called to query. No explanation given why it was stalled.… Read more
Fail 3: 2 days later they ask me for more documentation, I already had provided, no explanation why. Fail 4: when calling back again I was asked which of my 2 applications I was referring to. I queried why there are 2 applications, staff just suggested it may be a re-entry, but they were not sure. Could also be identity fraud, Citi bank did not seem to be interested to dig deeper. Fail 5-10: send 5 emails to raise my concerns, no call back even so it was promised via automated email, no other contact ever. Fail 11: they called, I asked to talk to a senior manager as I was getting fed up and wanted some assurance to at least acknowledge my concerns. I was just told I need to submit the "missing" documents they didnt advise me me in the beginning they needed. I now send them email to cancel the application. I will also advise Emirates airline that I will seek a different credit card airline combo and book my 2-3 annual international flights elsewhere..
False advertising – I have a Citibank Emirates card which I took up with the promise of a discount on my first Emirates flight purchased on my card. Trouble is, even though the promotion is on their website for all to see, no one at Citi's Manilla call center knows about it. So when you ring to enquire about the code they are meant to send you disaster strikes. Every… Read more
staff member tells you something different. And I've spoken to many! Naturally when you ring Emirates, they are just so professional and helpful and their code is there, but they can't help because it's a Citi promotion. I do believe that Citi have no intention of honoring the promise on their website.
Keep changing rules – Every few months (or so it seems), they change the rules on how many points you receive when you spend money - naturally always in a downward direction! For the amount the card costs you, I don't think its worth it. Oh and despite many calls, never received my lounge vouchers. Was also refused a new card despite earning enough to more than cover… Read more
it. It's rubbish.
February 1st, 2017 Update: It gets worse!!!
So the latest debacle is that because a new card was being sent out in a month, I was unable to access the online banking till a new card arrived. A month!! So they said I could cancel the current card and they'd send out the new one immediately. Lies! So as they lied about when the new card would arrive now I still can't access online banking, see my statement, buy anything as I now have an invalid card and PayPal won't work, payments that come off the card will be dishonoured! DONT GET THIS CARD and the call centre is useless.
June 10th, 2017 Update: Id rather take a scam hit than deal with their so called Customer Service
I took a scam hit today and immediately phoned Citibank. As usual their CS was rubbish- guess comes of having their call centre in another country. I think id rather take the hit on my card than deal with the BS that this "eminent banking institution" offers
Shocking Service. Outsourcing Departments To Countries Where English Isn't The Local Language – Applied for a Platinum Emirates card, was told to supply more information to consider further, application was then declined before they received said information. Tried to communicate with CS rep via telephone who again notified me to supply additional information. Once information was sent application declined. Both times it was myself who had… Read more
to chase up the decision. Married, stable job, way above average salary with very little commitments and excellent credit history. If you do not want unjustified decline decisions on your credit file do not go near Citibank.
Refused a card – I applied for the credit card, as I was planning a holiday and do not have a credit card, I was refused a card, because they could not in adequacy of income and security of employment....... I own a home unit which I rent out, yes own, I clear well over 100k a year, without the rental income, I live with my partner, in their house which we pay… Read more
$150 a week each in payments/......... And the last one security of employment.... I have been working for the same company for 30 years.... Call them to ask why. They refuse to answer, went into my bank, they threw a card at me in less than half an hour
You can stick your card Citibank
Loving it from day 1 – If u frequently fly on emirates there is nothing like it...I am using it for last 4 years with no surprises.. Being the person who pays on time can't comment much on interest rates and fee etc...was also offered an annual fee waiver twice International travel insurance( covered by zurich) was awesome, covered me for all flight re… Read more
arrangements recently which would have easily costed me 2000$ for no extra cost
Also covers U for interstate flight convenience which no other card does...haven't used that yet..
2 annual airport transfers In a holden statesman, amazing service u get for economy class travel (200$ value easily)
Sydney lounge access...twice a year
yes agree not an easy card to get, was declined three times and eventually had it after i was able to provide two years of tax assessment notices, was completely worth every effort
Also agree miles redemption not so good but this card made me accumulate 300000 miles in 4 years which were easily worth 4500$ long haul emirates tickets. So its upto you if you are smart enough to use them when its peak travel time and cash tickets are hell expensive while getting something on miles still cost you the same.
Yes they have taken away marhaba lounge at dubai, but i don't miss it...it was a crap lounge and good for nothing i prefer staying outside.
Terrible Citibank Emirates Platinum Credit Card – To start with the application process for the credit card took a long time. Their terms are misleading and not consumer friendly. Ripp off! Even if you pay off your balance they still charge retail interest for every purchase! What's the point of a credit card? No other bank does that. Citibank has bad customer service and terms. When contacting them they are not helpful and it takes ages to get a responds. Frustrating all around.
Emirates Citibank World Mastercard – This card is refused more times then any other one I have. The card has been compromised and cancelled so many times I have lost count and each time I need to contact everyone to update my payment details. the last straw came when they cancelled my Emirates card to issue me an Emirates Citibank World Mastercard whilst I was in Europe and… Read more
then lied about sending one to me in Europe for over 2 weeks until I demanded a tracking number. They even refused to freeze my account as I had no access to it.
The call centre are based in the Philippines and the customer service is very poor to the extent of being untrustworthy.
I am in the process of cancelling this card
Citibank Emirates Platinum Card re launched – Citibank is making everyone withdraw the Emirates Citibank Platinum card (even if you have only just renewed your annual fees) and issue a new card that is called Emirates Citibank World Mastercard. Needless to say yet more benefits have been withdrawn and this is following the benefits that were removed following it's partnership with Qantas. … Read more
If you don't have a mobile phone to hand you cannot access your online account.
There is zero customer service and the people that respond to your queries can hardly speak english!! They appear to be pre-programmed automatons trotting out the same old company rubbish.
Avoid this card like the plague!
HIT YOUR HEAD AGAINST THE WALL BEFORE GETTING THIS CARD ! – I am sick and tired when i try to use the card and its declined for no reason. i have auto payments in place so i am never behind in paying and yet i still have issues. This bank is a bank that silly users pay for their card that hardly use it. Their customer service is so stupid and over the top . i feel like I'm stupid or trying to break into my account emirates points everything else

Misleading and rude – I recently applied for a Emirates Citibank Platinum Card and was declined. Based on their online criteria they should have jumped at my application. I have a high income, low debt, standard outgoings and no dependants, all of which were stated on my application. When I called to query they wouldn't tell me anything as to why it was declined,… Read more
were very dismissive. Given the criteria online was an income of only 30-40k, there are obviously other criteria that they require which isn't stated - I have a perfect credit rating and shouldn't have this problem!
I only chose Citibank as I like flying with Emirates, will definitely not be using them in future for any banking requirements and will be putting anyone else off them too! I hope Emirates are reconsidering their partnership as I will now go to another airline's card offer, i'm sure I won't be the only one!
It does sound like by other reviews that I have dodged a bullet however am insulted at how I was treated.
Rude, misleading, unhelpful
Dishonest, deceitful everything negative – I recently transferred to this card and as a regular business class traveller (Skywards Platinum) I have used my card exclusively with Emirates. The points allocated however do not comply with those stipulated in the terms and conditions of the card. I rely on their honesty but t seems I have been sadly let down. Choose another card and get what you expect by the terms and conditions of your card. Deceitful and incorrect allocation of points
Dishonest? You tell me.Citibank currently offes unsecured loans at 8.99% fixed for 4 years.Lowest… Read more
Find out how Emirates Citibank Platinum compares to other Credit Cards
Know better, choose better.
Cheaters – I agree. I found out the hard way...they initially gave me points for ATO payments and suddenly stopped. When I queried, they said they swill send me evidence of the product information saying they don't give points for ATO payments. They never sent anything...crooks ,,I am not going to leave this. I will take them to task Con artists
Cheating – They will never tell you that the points are capped annually at 150,000 and then you earn nothing during the rest of the year. You will find this with very small letters in your welcome back after your are hooked with them and started using your card. Further, if you have a business and pay your tax, they will not tell you that you earn nothing on tax payment you do through your credit card. Cheaters, Cheaters, cheaters.
Now the bank changed its policy in capping the points earned annually. Now there is no limit and you can earn points as much as you can.
Points ripoff – I was always credited points when making payments to the ATO for last 2 years and then recently no pointson my Emirates Mastercard and when I rang citibank and asked them they first said I had never had them. Then when I pointed out many occaisions I had points credited to my rewards signature visa card they said only on that card. Then when I… Read more
pointed out I had points credited to Emirates mastercard (and both cards are on the same account) on the same account since issued 18 months ago. Then they said they had made a mistake and no points should have been credited for payments to Govt depts even though ATO charged me card fees. Citi said they had changed it since April 2013 but did not bother to advise me because that was always in the terms.I can't find anywhere in their advertising for the cards on Citibank site where they say Govt dept payments are excluded. At the least they should have advised me of change of treatment and I would have used my ANZ cards.
They only mention balance tranfers, cash advances and special promotions(whatever they are) I am out of pocket $1500 odd in card fees and am missing 100,000 points.I expect if I am paying additional card fees to use my card which are covering the merchant fees paid to Citibank for acceptance I should receive points in compensation. I have been a customer with big spend with Citi for more than 16 years and A1 credit rating. That means nothing to them.Citibank is dishonest and are a ripoff. Dodgy dodgy dodgy. I am taking a complaint to the banking ombudsman.
Staff read from a script to fob off genuine complaints.
Lounge access a struggle - vouchers never get sent - false advertising – The value propositions are rubbish. I didnt get access to Marhaba lounge in Dubai and had to lodge a formal compaint for follow up - they eventually gave me some points to compensate but the whole point of having a card with access to the lounge (and yearly payments) was misleading. Having the same trouble now with the voucher based lounge access… Read more
in Melbourne - against the vouchers never arrived (although the call centre tells me they were sent) and when I need to use it this Friday - I dont have vouchers and therefore again mislead with false advertising. They should just not claim to have this feature.... if they cannot effectively support it. I threatened to leave and they gave me one free year on the card - but then again this doesnt make up for not fulfilling the promised features.
promised features not fulfilled - no lounge access for starters.

Chiti card – I've spent more time on the phone to Citi than shopping with the card. my previous account which I couldn't account for.
Bottom line: This is pure scam you should avoid at all cost.
Very slow process, phone support is poor – In about 40 years having credit cards, my experience is that the Citibank has the most burocratic and slowest process ever. They do not believe in the information you provide, they want to call your accountant, your employer, perhaps the taxation department! Phone support is poor (always busy) and they never answer the fax I sent them (to… Read more

The worst credit card I have ever had. The worst internet banking website – I am on the phone to their Manilla call centre three times a week. Issues: -scheduled payments continue to be paid even after I cancelled them online; -they have miscalculated reward miles and keep telling me that I am calculating it wrong (taking them to the Fair Trading); -the call centre people are super annoying and never call you back as… Read more
they promise;
-they enrolled me into electronic statements without asking me;
-they transferred my reward miles into my Emirates account without asking me, even though it says on their statements that you have to call to do it. I wanted to have miles transferred to a different Emirates account.
-it takes 5 days to see your transactions on the internet.
Unless you specifically want to fly with Emirates, this card is not worth the trouble. Bonus miles. Everything is wrong with it
Excellent – I can't praise this card enough as we have been most impressed with it we pay total bill each month and have never had one complaint it is so much better than our previous Amex Corporate and Westpac Visa that also incorporated an Amex card that wasn't readily accepted, The Emirates Citibank Platinium card is accepted everywhere and works extremely… Read more · 2
well for us & friends that are now also using are of the same opinion Have had this card for nearly 3 years after ditching company supplied Amex Corporate Card because it was not accepted everywhere, Initially had Citibank Gold business then Citibank suggested the Emirates Platinum and as we fly Emirates on overseas trips it made sense as you get 1.5 points towards Emirates Skywards Frequent Flyer program and if you book flights using the card you get Chauffeur service from home to airport and the same at other end to your hotel and this works the same when returning home, also free admission into business lounges before the flights and any stop overs. We have been fortunate enough to accumulate enough points to be upgraded to business class the last two European trips we have done and will also be eligible for another upgrade this year as well, the Travel insurance incorporated in the card is also excellent as we had the need to claim against the insurance after my Sister passed away whilst we were overseas and the claim was handled through Zurich with professionalism and courtesy. All in all we can't fault this card and all the benefits it gives users. None that I have witnessed
Emirates Citibank Platinum Mastercard. Would be good if it worked the way it was supposed to – Easy to earn points at 1.5 miles per dollar, but I have had trouble with this card from day one. They didn't honour their committment to provide a driver to and from the airport based on the '12 month rule' last year. They don't mention this in their terms and conditions. They did offer a goodwill gesture of 10,000 points in liue of this. … Read more
You need to kick up a stink with the people in Chenai though!
In early June The Marhaba lounge only took AMEX cards and NOT CITIbank which advertise on their website that you have complimentary use. Not true. I tried to pay this on my ECPM and it was rejected by the machine!
I can never find upgrades to use the thousands of points I have amassed. I do get email upgrade offers for cash amounts for these same flights that otherwise state no seats availabe try again later... hmmm Easy to earn points Third party partners do not honour the features consistently;
I hired a car with Hertz. The Hertz guys never even heard of the deal between Emirates and Hertz. I… Read more
