Epson Expression Home XP-245

I hate it – I have never hated an inanimate object as much as I hate this printer. Wi-fi connection never works. Runs out of ink so fast. Always updating. Why? Just print, that's all I want. Slow. Rubbish. I hate it.
The worst printer I have ever purchased – Every time I turn it to use it says 'low ink'. I have to replace the ink cartridges. I have changed all 4 cartridges 4 times and have printed less than 50 pages. I won't be buying any more cartridges for this printer and I will never be buying another Epson printer EVER! Show details
Planned Obsolescence – This printer is a little nightmare machine. I have wasted too much money on ink cartridges trying to keep it going. The scanner still works (badly). But the printing function is completely kaput. Worst purchase I've ever made. Never buying Epson again. Show details
Worst printer I've ever used – Constantly calling Epson about this printer, 1st one was replaced they are either not connecting or using ink doing constant nozel purges and checks requested by Epson, I was told to get it serviced ...the service itself costs more than the printer itself (without parts), save your money DO NOT PURCHASE this crap machine EVER, I've lost total… Read more
faith in anything Epson after their customer service and laim excuses and dodgy products Epson is Absolute rubbish
Doesn’t print despite hours of best efforts – Consistently will not print, despite all troubleshooters saying is fine Seems to be an issue with data transfer - windows says it is printing and printer just makes noises and flashes lights but does not print. After trawling through endless forums, helpdesks etc, it still does not print first time. I usually have to try at least 2 or 3 solutions to get it to print a single page. I would strongly advise against purchasing this printer Show details
Unreliable, used up 1/2 the ink when new cartridge were installed just to clean the nozzles – This is the worst printer I have ever owned!!! Unreliable, used up 1/2 the ink when new cartridge were installed just to clean the nozzles. The Nozzles require cleaning every day. Ink cartridge are used up extremely fast Show details
Worst piece of junk in the world - couldn't pay me to buy another one – Worst purchase - can't print B&W if you have run out of colour - even when you set the printer options to grayscale - wifi connection pretty average - chews through ink - final nail in coffin - printer nozzles get blocked and cant be cleaned properly. Off to the rubbish tip. Never purchasing another Epsom product. On plus side - doesn't jam, good with paper economy. Although that could be cos I cant get it to work. Show details
Piece of Garbage – I bought the epson xp-240 which is almost identical to the xp-245. It was good while it lasted, which was for less than 50 prints, maybe even 20. You are unable to print in black and white if your other coloured ink cartridges have been used up which is very inefficient and really unheard of. Took a relatively long time trying to set it up and the… Read more
process was extremely difficult in my opinion. The only thing that's good about this product is that it scans images and documents relatively clearly. Although it is cheap, I would never recommend anyone to buy this printer.
Worst printer I've ever owned – I wanted a cheap, basic printer for my home, because I rarely use printers so I ended up with this disappointment. At no point has this printer ever done what I've requested straight away, even basic functions are difficult. The wifi connection randomly drops out, the "standard" setting for printing and scanning documents is barely legible, it… Read more
takes the paper in crooked despite the paper not being put in crooked.. the list goes on. Today was the pinnacle demonstration of how terrible it is - I bought black ink to print an important document, swapped the old cartridge for the new one, and now it's printing with absolutely no ink, despite passing nozzle and cleaning checks prior. It's actually quicker to jump in your car and drive to your local stationery store to print, than it is to use this printer. I've now wasted money on ink I'll probably never use, because I will probably drop this off of a balcony before using it again.
Will give you a rage aneurysm – Wifi connection rarely works, constant errors and jams. Has not successfully printed a single document in the year or so since I bought it. Utterly useless. I recommend you transcribe everything by hand rather than using this plastic brick.
Terrible printer – This printer is awful. Takes far too long to boot up after turning on. Drinks ink by the litre. Wi-Fi connection is pretty poor. Worst feature by far is the fact that you can't print black and white if the colour ink is low. A special Epson feature, that one... And the Epson print app is rudimentary at best - clunky, and not user- intuitive at all. Show details
No wireless connection – Wireless doesn't work after spending half an hour trying everything. If you need wireless, don't get this printer. Also, you need to but the USB connection separately as it doesn't come with this printer. Show details
Printer is crap, wast of plastic!! – Printer is crap, wast of plastic!! I don't know how Epson can deliver such a printer and get away with it bloody daylight robbery with out the violance. Nothing good about it stay away from the heap of crap!!!!! Show details

I hate it. Do not recommend – The wireless connectivity is okay. But the print heads are constantly clogged, it goes through ink very quickly, changing the cartridge is tricky and counterintuitive. The scanning software is clunky and tedious. Show details
Biggest rip-off, especially regarding ink/cartridges – At first I was reasonably happy with my printer, but I got a real shock when I realised just how fast the cartridges run out. The system will give you different readings for the ink levels at different times (i.e I just purchased yet another new cartridge (cyan). Before installing it, all 3 of the other ink levels were around a minimum of 1/3… Read more
full. After installing the new cartridge, the printer refused to work, because now it reads one of the other ones as being empty! No printing was done at all (obviously) between the 1/3 full reading and the now "sorry it's empty, you need to replace it" for the other colour. The other 2 levels have also magically dropped, and the ink level for the brand new Epson cartridge I just put in does not even show as full!) I purchased an extra-life/double black cartridge, which is now less than half-full (supposedly) after a ridiculously small amount of printing. You can't just print in black and forget about the colour inks either - the printer simply won't do anything unless it reads every cartridge as being reasonably full. As others here have mentioned, this is nothing but a scam by Epson, and a disgusting way to rort people. Never again will I purchase any Epson product. NEVER!
Terrible and unresponsive – Terrible printer. Barely ever responds, been tempted to through it off my balcony many times. OSX user with updated drivers and still doesn't work. Always hit and miss whether the printer will be found and if it will start at all. Sometimes it even stops printing half way. Show details
INK CARTRIDGE SCAM - Do not buy this product – This printer will ask you to change ink before the cartridges even run out of ink. This is another scam by EPSON, selling the printers at a loss and making billions on cartridges. This is not sustainable at all to the "environment"! The printer gets updates regularly and every update isn't to help the consumer but to gather data and increase… Read more
Epson's SALES! Updates will also learn third party cartridges and prevent you from using them! Latest updates doesn't allow refill or manual resetting or even third party cartridges. Overall this printer is rubbish scanning is very SLOW and printing quality is very BAD.
Worst printer ever – Slow to connect. Its connection keeps dropping! (Not my home wifi problem!) Took me to restart 5 to 8 times then only works normal. When i changed the ink for the first time, took me an hour to turn on off again and again to get ink and printer "connected". When both connected the wifi signal drops! you can imagine how frust i was about to chuck… Read more
the whole thing into the bin!. Never buy this printer please. Now i dont even bother to use it anymore.
Complete rip off - be warned and don't become another victim – Bought the printer in Dec 2017 then used it literally 2 times. Recently just after the warranty period expired with the original initial cartridges still in place, the low ink indicator came on when I needed to print a doc and won't allow further printing. So went and bought a genuine Epson black ink cartridge which is excessively expensive, and… Read more
replaced according to instructions. Then after a couple of attempts the printer appeared OK without further errors and started printing again, only without actually printing anything in black! For example if I print a word doc with words only, the printer will eject the paper straight away without even any print head movements. Tried everything I could after googling solutions online including power on/off with printer and computer, reinstalling cartridges, driver, updating firmware, cleaning chip contacts etc etc, wasting the whole day. Eventually emailed Epson support who just said it was a hardware fault and recommended bringing it to service center. However, as warranty period expired for a week, they have to charge for inspection, then extra if new parts required. Conclusion is that Epson is a total rip off and most irresponsible hardware company I have ever come across. This is a systematic corporate crime utilising loopholes in laws and regulations to scam people unawares. It is not just monetary loss, it is precious time of your life wasted when trying to resolve which only resulted in nothing but frustration.
Absolute waste – I was only able to print about a dozen jobs before its completely stopped printing. The few i did print took 10-15 minutes of restarting the jobs to get them to connect. Stay clear from epson. I thought the issues was with the ink so i purchased an additional 'value set' costing more than the printer. The issue was not with the ink however, it was… Read more
not possible form me to tell as there are no details with error messages, it simply says there is an error.
Steer clear! – This is cheap tinny junk. Runs out of ink rapidly & cartridges cost more than the unit. Scanning stopped after a while. Steer clear!!! I would recommend waiting & saving for something decent or looking in gumtree for a bargin would never reccomend this product most disappointed threw it in bin. Show details
Cheap Rubbish – I have been selling printer cartridges online for the last 12 years and Epson are by far the worst printers on the market. They have a major issue with the firmware they use. Epson were voted worst printer on our poll that we conducted. I wrote this review after working on a XP-245 today and giving up in anger. They are cheap, low grade rubbish. DO NOT buy any Epson printer, be warned. Dean ( Manger - Ink Hub Australia ) Show details

Piece of Junk – Doesn't do anything but the lights do light up. Absolute piece of useless back plastic. Been trying to connect to devices but won't connect to any. Pretty sure I would ever purchase another Epson product again. And continuously get bombarded with emails on a daily basis about other products that probably don't work either. Show details
painfully slow and cumbersome to scan with – Never could get the wifi connected however works fine with a usb cord which I had to buy separate. The printing is fine however if you are going to do scanning I would highly recommend you look for another brand, it is painfully slow and cumbersome to scan with. Office works have the monopoly on the ink as you can only buy it from them for around $85.00 dollars. Show details
Epson Expression XP-245 – I purchased this inexpensive printer. Big mistake as it has been sitting next to my desktop because I have been unable to get it to setup with my Wi Fi. The printer is poor quality and and it rattles along endlessly the times that I have tried to use it. To add insult to injury in desperation I got hold of Epson through a chat line that Epson has.… Read more
Here I was put through to a technician who required a $44.00 fee to fix the problem. Probably close to what I paid for the printer. My trusty old Brother ran out of steam after seven years of good service. Back to Brother for me. AVOID this printer.
Welcome your new nemesis – It jams. Worse than the jams are the mystery errors for no reason. It also runs out of ink very rapidly. The refills are cheaper than other cartridges, but they're still presumably filled with unicorn tears at that price. When it does work, it takes ages to figure out what it's doing, which is frustrating given that it only had one job. I truly despise this machine. Show details
A waste of money – This printer has rarely worked properly since we bought it. The print quality is abysmal - either very faint or with parts missing - and it frequently jams. It is noisy, and the control panel is poorly designed. On top of this, the ink cartridges are eye-wateringly expensive, and it gets through them at an astonishing rate. To think that our… Read more
old Lexmark printer gave us 11 years of excellent service, and on cheap recycled cartridges too.
AVOID!
Poor, poor quality, save your money and buy an alternative – I have owned a number of printers over the years, and the 'Epson XP245' would be the poorest quality printer I have had the misfortune of owning. It never connects to the wi-fi, print 5 pages, then there is always an issue with the ink. And let's NOT talk about the scanner. Show details
great for price – Really good budget printer, very light and portable print from app. Easy to use and set up, the print quality is very good and it's quite fast to print. For the price you can't go wrong. I recommend this printer to the budget buyer. So fast and easy to print straight from from your phone. Show details
Cheap printer, slow and expensive to operate - you get what you are paying for – This printer is rather slow and has ugly interface, without even a digital display (any operation requires user manual, no obvious ways to do anything). Very noisy. But that may be expected for a cheap multifunctional model. Print quality is OK for the price. This printer is very expensive to operate; it spends ink very quickly, and the worst… Read more
part - it requires full expensive set of colour inks, even if you only print grayscale/black and white. And accordingly to Espon, it actually spends colour cartridges too, when printing black and white! This is a very deceptive business tactic by Epson, as it's never indicated in the manual or on the website for the product. New set of inks costs more than the printer itself.
I certainly will try to avoid Epson products in the future, never had problems like that with HP, and HP was able to print using black cartridge only. I don't recommend this model!
