badly thought out and designed for efficiency – The software that came with the scanner is very poor. If you do get this scanner be aware that easy photo scan is complete rubbish. It severely interferes with Epson scan. For instance, I scanned 50 images that took about 4 hours only to find that these images are not saved to the hard drive but wait in this rubbish program 'easy photo scan' THEY… Read more
DON'T WRITE TO YOUR HARD DRIVE. I have to start from scratch however when I load Epson scan on its own it becomes unstable. DON"T INSTALL EASY PHOTO SCAN!
Good – As someone who scans thousands of images a month I have really appreciated the superior speed of the Epson V600. This scanner is a nice looking unit with very low energy consumption, easy to setup and use. Thankfully Epson has reintroduced an off switch, something so small but annoyingly missing from their previous range. Scan speed is super fast… Read more
at 300dpi, preview scanning often takes longer than a final 6x4 scan. High resolution scanning speeds are also relatively quick. Using the Digital ICE technology on old slides and medium format negatives is very slow but can save a heap of Photoshop time (just beware of some edge fringe effects).
This scanner is mainly suited to flatbed use but produces acceptable film scans at high resolution (and high speed if not using the ICE option). The supplied 35mm negative holder feels a bit flimsy and can't be used for some older style negatives. The slide and medium format negative holders work well. My main issue with the V600 is the Australian retail price, it should really be down around the $300-$350 mark given the high Australian dollar during 2010. - Very fast scans
- Digital ICE technology - Australian pricing is a joke (Australian RRP AU$549 compared to American RRP US$249)
- Opening lid is a bit clunky
- Automatic scanning doesn't pick up negative boundaries very well
