Epson Stylus C61
2 reviews
Bad – I got my C61 in 2003 and used it to print out the shots when my first child was born. the ones printed on photo paper are still vibrant and look great (5 years down the track). the photos printed on normal paper have faded a bit. The ink cartridges are expensive and using non Epson cartridges is a big no-no as the printer will tell you that you have been naughty and refuse to work.
the C61 uses up the very expensive ink to clean its print heads.aargh.
still, it kept working for me until my old centrino desktop running Ubuntu (Linux) with its LPT (parallel) port died.
No -worries I thought and hooked it up by USB to my laptop (no LPT port) which was also running Ubuntu (Linux). nothing.
searching the net showed me that epson had set the C61 to default to LPT (parallel port) and there was no easy workaround.
I would not be in a rush to buy another epson because, despite the great quality prints, the printer is expensive to maintain and is designed to work only with epson products. great quality pictures, prints last more than 5 years with minimal fade, small footprint, usb and LPT connection so can work with older computers. expensive to run (ink usage).unable to use aftermarket inks (printer rejects non epson cartridges). USB connection unable to work with Linux OS
Bad – dont buy it just shop around and get them to show you how to use it.The software that comes with it is useless. Quality of pictures are fantastic, photos turn out as clear and Ink cartriges dont last long, you cant just buy one cartridge you have buy both as there joined. The size changes everytime you print another picture.
