Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4740

Epson printers are rubbish – I have bought 3 Epson Workforce Pro printers. The 1st was ok and I gave it to a friend. The second was very good for about 4 months. After that I noticed ink marks on my printed pages. No amount of maintenance would fix this problem. I persisted with it till I couldn't any longer. I then bought my 3rd Epson Workforce Pro. Again it worked very well for about 5 months. After this, again, I noticed ink marks on my pages. It got worse and worse. I did the maintenance on the printer heads etc., and changed the cartridges, thinking they were faulty, but nothing I did solved the issue. I wasted so much ink and paper. I will never buy another Epson printer again. I have checked other review sites and many other people have had exactly the same issues. I wish I'd known before I bought them. Don't buy Epson...please. If you value your hard earned dollar, stay away from ALL Epson products. You have been warned!

Bad WiFi Connection...Avoid – Every time I need to use this printer I need to Re install the software, restart my modem, restart my computer and the printer itself for it to work and when it does work it take ages to start printing, what a piece of rubbish. None of the firmware updates have solved the problem either so I'm guessing it's a hardware issue. Never had an issue with my last Epson printer (WF-7620).

Unreliable inkjet printer – I praised this printer shortly after I purchased it. It printed well and has many features. But within 10 months it had a paper jam whenever I tried to do double sided printing. It also developed a nasty printing problem with blotches of ink and dirty paper roller marks along the right side of the paper. I acknowledge that this might be caused by using compatible ink cartridges (one of which may have been faulty) rather than original (and very expensive) Epson ones. While the paper jam is not an ink issue, the blotching may be and the Epson warranty doesn't cover faults attributed to compatible cartridges. I see no value in trying to have the printer repaired under the 1 year warrantee period. I've chosen to buy a new printer from a different brand. I've read many reviews about problems with inkjet printers for home and small home office use of any brand. Wish me luck with my new purchase.
My original review was: For a home office type inkjet this printer is fast and produces a good quality printout in colour and in black and white. I've had the printer for two weeks and so far it has performed perfectly. Doesn't seem to use an excess of ink but it's still early days. Double sided printing and the document auto-feeder work fine. The printer seems to be solid and well built. I'll use less expensive compatible ink cartridges when I need to replace the Epson original ones and I'll be interested to see if the quality of printing varies.
I'm tempted to give this 5 stars but the print quality is very good rather than excellent although it is good enough for my needs.
It was easy and quick (a few minutes) to connect the printer via WiFi to my PC (running Windows 10) using the supplied CDROM and Epson Net Setup. I connected to my modem by entering the modem password into the touchpad of the printer (only because pressing the WPS button on the modem didn't make the connection). Once connected the printer required a firmware update which was initiated from the setup wizard and this took around 15 minutes. So I was up and printing in well under 30 minutes.
I bought this at Officeworks for $199. I probably could have got by with a more basic model but the ones I saw looked flimsy in comparison and some had exposed rear feeding paper trays rather than the (two) large enclosed trays of the WF-4740.
