Fisher & Paykel DD603

Wasn’t perfect but, we loved it! – Loved the two drawers. Allowed for more flexibility for types and size of loads. Dishes came out clean, as well as a few other household items like, AC & heater vents, and overhead range hood filters. Had some issues with the electronics. The board or whatever it’s called. Mainly due to over suddsing I think (my fault too much powder). This was replaced. But, played up again (not my fault this time). The last couple of years there have been little glitches which were overcome by turning of the power and then back on. Then water wouldn’t drain. Initially, by putting drawers through a hot wash, we were able to overcome this too.
However glitches became more frequent and the machine was turning itself on. Last straw was an electrical burning smell. Turned off at wall. And now drawers are stuck. Haven’t used it for well over 6 months now. Too scared to try it.
Want another one but newer models don’t look as big on inside, and F&P customer service has really gone down hill in regards to helpful advice. Really in 2 minds.

14 years old and never an issiue – Had this Fisher Paykal double dishdrawer for 14 years and only now has it started to show signs of its age, getting a bit of an electrical smell about, it so its time to retire it! I have ordered a new dd60dcx9 model....Hope it is as good as the old one!!

2 drawers sounds good in theory, but very disappointing in reality – We bought an older property with the double Dish Drawer installed in what was originally a luxury kitchen - solid oak kitchen cabinets with deep drawers (love these), polished granite bench tops with stainless steel splash backs and fancy deep circular sinks, and matching stainless steel appliances by Smeg and Westinghouse. A double dish drawer sounded great in theory - plates etc in top drawer and pots etc in bottom drawer, each with its own wash program. In reality, it was a drama trying to load the dishwasher with our regular load. Even after reading the manual on how to load, we're still juggling and juggling especially with larger serving plates, pots and knives between the 2 drawers. From being able to do 1 full load a day as a family who tend to cook dinner and not breakfast or lunch, we found ourselves having to do up to 3 drawer loads a day plus hand washing larger items as it seemed wasteful to run an additional drawer wash for a single time. Apart from the hassle of juggling to fit, this has doubled to tripled our consumables cost for dishwasher detergent. I don't know if this also means tripling our energy costs.
It is also very noisy compared to the Bosch's we're used to. But, it does dry the dishes better than Bosch.
Well, we will "make do" till our rather depleted wallet allows us to replace this.
Gross disapointment – Built a new house and in the upstairs main kitchen installed a F&P Double Drawer dishwasher. After about 18 months we see there is a recall for the dishwasher so contact F&P. Can either have it repaired or buy a new model at a discounted pro rata price based on age. We elect the latter - very bad mistake. The first washer gave absolutely no trouble but the replacement DD 603 has been a nightmare. It all seems to relate to the electronic control unit for the upper washer. Its now on its 3rd and its just failed after 48 days since it was installed. OK F&P have met the cost of the replacement part at A$220 but we wear the agents fees in time and travel - for us A$170 per time. So that means that in the last 3 months we will have forked out A$340 for a piece of equipment that has obviously got a severe design / manufacturing problem. I have again emailed F&P and told them of the latest failure (t always seems to happen late on a Friday afternoon) so will see what that brings. Last time it finished up a right royal schemozzle between the agent and F & P.
We are at the point of cutting our losses and replacing the whole unit with a more reliable brand (e.g. German Bosch or Maytag). I would point out that at the same time we installed the F&P in the main kitchen the kitchen for the downstairs unit was equipped with a Maytag dishwasher and its never missed a beat - that should tell me something I guess.
As someone else said "the DD is a great idea with absolutely crap build " pity really - wonder if Bosch or Maytag do a similar idea??
