Garmin Forerunner 301

Garmin Forerunner 301 – As of 2012 I believe this unit is no longer available (superseded). The unit is not waterproof with openings for pressure equilibration(?) and for audible beep output - thus not suitable for water sports such as canoeing/kayaking. Buttons have a tendency to become intermittent and then fail - requires return to SA outlet with a set minimum cost for repair or replacement with refurbished unit at their discretion. Altimeter function seems to have a variability of about +- 15-25 metres (on the river at least). Heart rate monitor somewhat erratic with kayaking (upper limb interference?). Includes basic maps (with potential for upgrading) and reasonable online application for graphing workout statistics. Overall, for the price is a worthwhile unit. Good training motivator and for historical records. tendency for buttons to lose function.
