Poor and questionable selling tactics – Worse than 1 star. My product has stopped working after 2.5 years. It should have lasted longer. It's been meticulously cared for without a scratch. None of the fixes customer service suggested worked. Instead I had to fork out more money to buy new batteries, a card reader and then complete other memory card 'solutions' to see if any of that… Read more

helped. None of it worked. So what did customer service try to do? Upsell another product of theirs. The hide of them. No wonder their share price is near all times lows with a second qtr 2024 net loss of $48 million, or a $0.31 loss per share. As an Australian, we don't like being upsold to a product we've had bad experiences with in the first place. You become untrustworthy.

Decent adventure camera – Despite the mixed reviews, the hero9 has served me pretty well. I use it mainly to film outdoor bouldering (rock climbing), generally the camera is held still using a tripod, sometimes in the full sun. Fortunately, unlike some I have not experienced any overheating issues. I also don't have any problems opening the battery latch. Pros: - Camera… Read more

works well, amazing quality footage and plenty of different options to choose from - Pictures actually look good too, surprisingly - No issues with overheating or freezing - App is useful for quick editing and transferring snippets from videos. Easy to sort through and grab what you need - I also use it as a webcam which works okay - you can change between the lens views, but apart from that it has limited functionality

Cons: - Need to buy every accessory under the sun to make it more useful. We have the silicone case (which came with a new battery latch that allows for charging through the latch), Enduro batteries (they are a must for better battery life), tripod, tripod attachment etc - The UI is just a tad too slow. If i could buy it again, I would go the hero10 as they have upgraded the processor to be twice as fast - Some connection issues when switching between bluetooth and wireless. It also seems to disconnect often and you have to reconnect between tabs in the app - the App always wants to push some upsells like subscription or other popups thats pretty annoying - Doesn't seem to be any mounts to use it as a webcam

Maybe its competitors will be better at this point as there is little innovation left happening in the gopros. Despite that, it is doing its job and should last a long time

Will Not Buy Go Pro Again! – Received brand new hero 9 using hard earned reward points two months ago. Was very excited as my first Go Pro was very tired after owning for 10 yrs. First disappointment breaking my nails trying to open battery / sd card hatch Then very short battery life. Now the USB connection inside the battery hatch is failing and will not allow connection… Read more

to computer. Yes it is set to MTP. The connection became erratic and might connect briefly then disconnect If I am lucky, might be ably to apply pressure in a certain way and hold it to keep connection. Ridiculous. Online help shows plenty having same problem but no resolution from GoPro.

Worked fine for 1 year and 6 months, RUBBISH now!!! – My first ever review on a product. I need to let everyone know that the Customer support is crap. I am so angry. Spent over $1000 to buy camera and equipment and now i have to spend another $500/600 to buy a brand new one because the Hero Black 9 i have is basically rubbish. It freeze as soon as i turns on. The only support i was given was to… Read more

manually update the system which made it even worst. What to do now? Anyone that knows how to take it from here?

Dont waste your money – 1. Battery compartment is extraordinarily difficult to open, in fact it was impossible for me to open. Abd the only way to charge this thing is to open the battery compartment. 2. Didnt come with written instructions, you need to download them off the net and they dont match the camera I bought, obviously the Australian version is different. 3.… Read more

You need to buy the app to get it to work properly, mine froze completely, I couldnt even turn it off. 4. Doesnt come with a charger, you need to buy it aftermarket. 4. You need to subscribe to their video editing software. 5. It doesnt link with some popular Android smartphones. 6. I have zero idea why these are so popular, they are completely user unfriendly , dont come with written instructions and you need to buy the app or it doesnt work. And no charger included, I took mine back the next day when it froze and the battery compartment lid fell off because it was so flimsy.

bad camera, bad service – Total waste of money, please do not make the same mistake as i did. Hardly used it. But whenever i tried using it, it shuts down. Kept it updated and everything still the same problem. It is a cheap nasty device, not worth it at all. tried contacting for help, they gave me the runs around and did not care. $600 for the camera and no help at all,… Read more

after all that it went out of warranty and they said there's nothing we can do, see you later. camera is in brand new condition, does not work but they are not going to help. what sort of company is this?

If i had a choice, i would rather spend that little bit more on a mobile phone and use that instead of a gopro as the video quality was not good. and if you film in 4k or 5k, you cannot use that footage at a normal computer or a phone as it doesnot support that format. so i ended up buying ipad air 4 and an editing software to edit any videos, but after all that money i spent, the camera keeps shutting down in the middle of filming video or just turning it on to use the camera.

a really bad experience, the screen is small and very unresponsive. iphones are better devices to film on and you can transfer your videos with ease, whereas on gopro transferring videos are not easy.

niche camera – Nice for outside use and adventuring. Do not get if you want to record things inside or do anything stationary, it's not worth the cost. Be prepared to spend hours figuring out how to edit footage if you don't want to pay for a subscription. Inside footage is blurry and more often than not can get better footage on a phone. Show details

Fails to record randomly – I have had the GoPro 9 Black since it first came out a while ago and I have had never ending problems with it. It fails to record when below 33% battery capacity. When it's afternoon light, it records sound only (frame freezes a few seconds into recording). I rely on my GoPro for my business and having training sessions fail to record randomly… Read more

GoPro 9 has stopped working. GoPro support unhelpful. My last GoPro purchase – I am an action sports video enthusiast. I have purchased many GoPro cameras over the years. All of the earlier models worked for a reasonable amount of time, most are still going. My GoPro 9 stopped working, recently. It turns off after about nine seconds, then comes back on and switches off, indefinitely. I contacted GoPro Support. They said as… Read more

it is over 12 months old, they will not replace/repair it. I pointed out that I am in Australia, where the 12 month warranty is not enforceable. They have still refused to help me. I will have to go through my state consumer affairs organisation, and further if required. I will never be buying another GoPro. You can avoid making that mistake, too.

Wish knock offs are better – Ok. GoPro have missed the mark by a LONG way for this now paperweight. 1. Overheats i literally should not be almost burned by a camera (what the actual F#ck) 2. Lets talk about "user friendly" .. what a joke 2a. The app has crashed more times than i have eaten hot breakfasts - half way through a media transfer - nope sorry i will crash and… Read more

start again 2b. Lets talk about connectivity to Mac. which is NON EXISTENT - i literally ... cannot connect my GoPro 9 to my 2020 MacBook. Not via HD card nor USB cable (yes i have changed setting) 3. The app it self - doesn't stay on preview mode on the phone so basically have to guess what you are filming if you are using the phone for guidance 4. Transfer of data from GoPro to phone is a double download event (which is stupid)

I know that the world is crazy but perhaps either give your designers and engineers more pay or more coffee to create a better product because its simply sh#thouse and i am using my GoPro7... which is shi#thouse but less sh#t than the 9.

Sadly. i will NEVER buy another GoPro after this experience and would honestly recommend a Wish overseas knock off that that piece of tech garbage.

Crap camera with crap customer support – This is a truly crappy camera and I hope I can get a refund. The first time I used it it kept freezing and it didn’t respond to my clicking the buttons at all. This is after I have updated the software! And then I took it diving and more problems arose. First of all, it didn’t respond to my pressing the buttons at all under water. And it switched… Read more

mode from video to time lapse on its own. I was not able to record any of the adventures which is why invested in the camera in the first place. Then I tried and get someone to help from go pro team. I filled out the online request a call back form. The only respond I got was an email accusing my phone was occupied so they were not able to contact me when my phone was available the whole time. And it lefts a link for me to click into to get help, but it only took me back to the request a call back form again instead of an actual number I can call to get help. I patiently filled out all the info again but was only informed that I have already requested once and just need to wait. But I was told to do this again from the email they sent me!!!!!! Is there actual human being gonna talk to me to solve my problems with the crappy equipment?!

Poor quality and complete absence of customerservice – I have had several GoPro's in the past. At the time they were some kind of novelty, but competition like DJI caught up well and truely. Nonetheless, I changed my Hero 8 for a Hero Black 9, as there was an offer online to get one year free Cloud service and a carrying case. I sold my Hero 8 and installed the Hero 9 in my account. I had my GoPro app… Read more

with built in cloud service with Apple, so cancelled that. Did not get the promised free year of subscription, as GoPro customer service states I should have read the fine print. That literally states that loyal, existing paying customers do not qualify for the free year !! Incredible. There is not much to add about the camera, no improvement compared to older versions and still no zoom. If you want to use other lenses and filters, you better buy a backpack. The competition has this all built in. It has now a coloured screen on the front for selfies that you better switch off as it eats your battery and the touch screen is so insensitive, that it is not useable. I bought an Osmo, am 150% happy with that, and the GoPro brick is now for sale from me.

Very disappointed – My daughter finally saved her hard earned dollars to purchase her own go pro. They had a deal on that you got a free subscription, free battery and 64GB card. But apparently because we ordered on dad’s existing subscription login you don’t get any of that. This is her first big purchase and she feels so cheated. Not a good experience. Show details

Don’t Buy - Common faults with no support – GoPro Hero9 keeps shutting down (or won’t turn on at all). Common fault (please read their community forum). Worst camera I’ve ever owned - last GoPro I’ll ever buy. Expensive junk. Avoid. Show details

False advertising. Worst customer service – Item to arrive within 2-3 business days. Its been 10 and still hasn't arrived. Try to contact go pro. Submit a complaint via online form. Still no response after 5 days. Talk to chat. They tell me they "no longer cater to emails". As if that's a reasonable response. Then tell me to wait another 3 business days. like getting blood from a stone - Hero 9, incomplete and premature release with no backup – the worst Gopro ever. Most the features don't work and the product was knee capped at release with no remote support or even an ETA on a future remote model (yet every gopro since the 3 supported it and i don't think its even on the radar yet.... they say its in development... maybe like the Hero 8 media mod which released with the 9 that it… Read more

Support doesn't exist, no phone number, no email address just a bogus chat window that doesn't work or call back system that won't play well with your time zone outside the US if you can even get it to work.

they set the benchmark of how budget and appalling a business can go on their support system; horrendous product release (so premature its an abortion) coupled with a crap support backbone makes for the worst purchase experience in decades

I will not buy another product of gopro's - and buyer beware

If your on the fence just do yourself a favour and read the gopro forums which are 95% full of complaints on the Hero 9

The camera is great - everything needed to make it work is useless – I bought the camera as a birthday present to myself after saving for a year. 2-3 day shipping takes a week or two from the states. Played with the camera and it seems to do a good job of capturing video and images BUT: *The camera needed a firmware update. The app kept 'losing' the camera. Eventually I managed to do it by manually placing the… Read more

file on the SD card. Wasted a couple of days sorting that out.

*The app just doesn't work. It won't communicate with the camera properly. I can't access Live View, though I can adjust the settings through the app. I also can't upload captured video to the app.

*You HAVE to have the GoPro subscription, so that you can upload to THEIR cloud. But when you do that, then download to the app from the cloud, the videos jutter really badly. In short, you can't access what you've recorded. The app MUST be on and open the whole time you download.

*I wanted to get a waterproof housing and battery dock and I wanted them to be genuine, so tried buying from their site, especially as there is a good discount if you've subscribed to their service. BUT -the first times I tried they said there was no stock available in my area -they won't ship batteries to Australia unless it's with a camera (so I have a camera that I can't buy additional batteries for). -the waterproof housing they can ship, but the shipping costs nearly as much as the product for their 'express' postage. There is no other option.

*Their customer service is totally absent. The option to live chat has never worked for me, regardless of when I've tried it, and their phone service is only 8-5 Western Australia time, which is when I'm at work. I'm hoping to get a break to call them today, but I really don't hold much hope.

BASICALLY: If you're a competent video editor and want the hardware to capture the footage, it's probably great. If you're someone like me who wants to record their kids growing up and having adventures, but don't have extensive knowledge of how to edit footage on independent software, then don't waste your money.
