I had no notification that Grammarly was renewing the subscription fee. Unfortunately, my bank honoured the payment despite there being insufficient funds in my account. I attempted to contact Grammarly immediately after the payment was deducted, but I could not get past the chatbot to speak with a real person. Because the arrangement was through… Read more

PayPal, my bank paid PayPal and PayPal then paid Grammarly. By the time I finally worked out how to contact Grammarly directly, I felt there was very little understanding or compassion regarding my situation, including the fact that my husband had passed away and I simply could not afford the renewal.

I was also disappointed that I did not receive a renewal warning email and that there appeared to be no practical support available when I was unable to get past the automated system to speak with a human representative. The overall experience left me feeling as though, once the payment had gone through, my situation and financial hardship were of little concern.

As someone already dealing with the loss of my husband and ongoing financial pressures, including basic living expenses and caring for my dogs, I found the experience quite distressing. I felt the company lacked compassion and empathy, with profits appearing to take priority over customer care and support standards.

Grammarly.... the best grammar checker albeit a bit too expensive – The free version is useful... but if you have something really important to edit then the paid version can significantly improve the final product. The only downside to the paid service is that it's a little pricey for casual use: $144 yearly or $30/month. That doesn't sound too bad until you realise that's USD and that means it's almost double… Read more

this in AUD. It would be easier to justify if it was a once off cost... or the license covered multiple years. Grammarly hasn't got the cost v's utility balance right. While I use the free version regularly... the paid version only makes sense for more complicated/paid projects (once every few years). If your english writing skills are good there's less need for Grammarly. Anyone with poor writing skills will find the value proposition of Grammarly much more attractive.

I upgraded Grammarly for a month while finalising my PhD thesis and the result impressed my supervisor. It took ~6 weeks to improve the thesis as you shouldn't simply accept the suggestions Grammarly makes: About 10% of the time the Grammarly suggestions don't make a lot of sense... or user input is required to clarify something.

Grammarly explains what you've done wrong and how you can fix it. It's not just a case of hitting "Accept". If you read the explanations your writing should improve after using this program. The explanations are what makes the program so attractive. Grammarly speeds up workflow dramatically as you're spending less time correcting and more time writing.

The final outcome was worth it. The thesis was much more readable after Grammarly. Even my sceptical supervisor was convinced. It's amazing how many imprecise sentences you manage to write. Unless you can get someone to check the work you'll probably never realise. Grammarly is much cheaper than hiring an editor to check your work (costs thousands) and much simpler and more accurate than trying to get someone else to correct the work (depends who you know and how careful they are). RMIT was so impressed that it added Grammarly Pro to the STEM school's free student programs i.e. They paid for the upgrade.

Given that many students come from overseas and struggle with English... Grammarly can take a big load off the work they and their supervisors have to do. Additionally their English should improve as they use the program. Even the free version is sufficient to dramatically improve output. The biggest problem is that so many people are lazy and won't take the time to read the explanations. If you simply hit accept your text won't come out quite right.

There is a Grammarly Word plugin which makes the whole correction process much smoother... but I couldn't find it on the Grammarly website. I had to email Grammarly about it repeatedly before they provided a link. The Word Plugin was the most useful of all the Grammarly tools as it improved workflow rather than slowing it down.

There's also a Windows plugin which will correct anything you happen to be typing.

Con's Windows would get stuck when booting and either take a long time to boot or never finish booting. The problem disappeared when the Windows and Chrome apps were deleted (3 programs show up in the programs list prior to deletion) N.B. Word plugin works fine as you only launch that when you need it. It probably depends what other programs you have running in the background. Ideally such programs should be turned off and on as required. That allows you to take advantage of the corrections when you need/want them... but avoids conflicts and won't slow down your computer when not being used N.B. The test computer had a very fast boot time (NVMe Gen 4), a fast 12 core CPU and 16 GB of memory.

Another way to edit text is to upload the text or document and edit it online. This seriously slows down the workflow i.e. It's much harder as you have to go back and correct your document manually N.B. Document size is limited to 4 MB in the free version.

New features I haven't utilised the new AI features much... so I'm unclear how useful they are.

Grammarly now gives you access to two of the advanced features each day for free. This is a smart move... as it gives you some idea of why you should consider the paid version. It's often difficult to figure out how useful the paid version is until you use it. Giving you a taste of the improved version makes you more likely to pay for the full version. Otherwise you remain uncertain about the value of the paid version.

Alternatives ChatGPT is free and does an excellent job at improving text... but the downside is that it rewrites stuff without explaining what its doing or why. That doesn't help improve your skills and can result in many unintended errors.

Suggestion Well written text can be almost incomprehensible due to the way text is presented: Font, layout, etc... Improving comprehension of your text by improving presentation would be an obvious way to enhance Grammarly further.

I'm surprised that Microsoft doesn't acquire Grammarly or a similar product as Word would greatly benefit from this kind of enhancement.

Most writers will benefit from this thoughtful program. If you can afford the paid version you ought to consider it... at least for important projects. In the meantime using the free version will help you pick up common writing problems.

Excellent Tool for Enhancing Writing Quality – I recently started using Grammarly, and it has made a significant difference in the way I write. The tool helps me catch grammar and spelling mistakes that I often miss and offers helpful suggestions to improve clarity and tone. I also appreciate how easy it is to use across different platforms, whether I’m writing an email, a report, or a social media post. One of the best tool for grammar mistake.

Not reliable, grammatical errors are quite severe – 1. It is not reliable; connecting to their server is quite bad and slow. Take longer to get there. 2. The grammar is still incorrect, 3. Unethical Billing Practices – I had commenced an annual plan for 86 USD the previous year. I was ok for this to continue this year as well. However, without any communication they charged me 144 USD this year. There was no communication about the price increase . They did not give me an option to get a refund or choose monthly subscription. Absolutlety disapointing, please stay away from their premium services.

Grammar is a hit and miss affair – I tried the free grammar check Webpage but found inconsistencies. Some suggestions, if followed, would have made some sentences sound odd. Also, they sometimes suggest plagiarisms where there aren't any.
