Honda Civic 10th Gen (2016-2021)

Best car I have owned. Put the fun back into driving. Comfortable, practical, reliable and very easy to live with. Does what it should with no surprises. Enough tech to be safe but you still have to drive it. Enough power to have some get up and go but only a 1.6 liter turbo motor so 6 or 7 liters per 100 ks. Being a smaller car, you cant see past 4wd trucks but you can fit in shrinking car parks.
I love my car, but… – The car is great, I love it, but (living where I do) I would never buy another Honda because the allocated service location (an hour away at Maitland) is unsatisfactory. I have to allow a whole day off to get my car serviced, they were unable to fix the problem with the central locking system (and insisted on gaslighting me that there was no… Read more
problem, despite the technician managing to lock my keys in the car), which I managed to fix myself! My next car will be bought locally, after researching both the car, and service quality.
Best car and joy to drive – 2021 VTI-S Civic, best car I have ever owned. Handles incredibly well, corners well and hugs the road. Love the spacious Hatch and sporty exterior. Daily driver and always enjoy driving it regardless. Serviced every 10000kms / twice a year for fixed price Honda servicing @$120. Absolute bargain and never has missed a beat. Extremely reliable. 10/10 all round Show details

Have driven 50,000 kms so far with no servicing issues.
Best hatch I have ever owned!
- +2
Honda Civic VTi-LX – Having test driven most other cars in the class, the Honda comes out on top, looks, luxury and economy are all grade A. It’s fun to drive and as expected from Honda, well thought about and finished. I am quite tall and even in my position the back passenger behind the driver seat has plenty of space, the boot in the hatch is also huge. Perfect for every day and for going away. The cruise control and Honda Sense are simply amazing as well Show details

Lemon Car. Honda have lost the plot – This car is honestly the worst car I have ever driven. Many electrical issues from factory that Honda themselves have no idea how to fix. (Eg.. headlights dim randomly, alternator keeps dying (3 replaced in 200,000kms) CVT died just after the warranty expired which is an $8000 replacement Cars headunit from factory stopped working at 200,000 &… Read more
can't replace because the new models have a bigger screen that doesn't fit the 2016 model
Interior is spaced nicely but it is awful hard plastics
Brakes have worn unevenly from factory Car bottoms out on the smallest of speed bumps which means I have to slow down to a crawl to go over any bump or fear that my front bumper will be ripped off.
From factory every heatshield rattled causing a racket everywhere I drive.
Paint is thin and started fading around 3 years of ownership (white pearl)
I've had to sell this car because of repair costs too high.
Honda have lost the plot. Now with their fixed price sales, I will never purchase another Honda again.
Ticks lots of boxes – It's a great car, purchased the non Turbo with the aging 1.8 engine for reliability. After reading the Honda turbo issues lately, I'm glad I did. Had this car for little more than 2 years now, with 30k on the clock, here are my personal pros and cons. Pros: - Spacious and very practical - Reasonably quiet and comfortable - Not as quiet as… Read more
Golf and Impreza, but drives better imho.
- Android Auto and Apple carplay connectivity is great and stable on the 4 phones I tested.
- 7 years unlimited km warranty (promotion) - Finally a Honda product without the rip off 6 months service interval, but....
Cons:
- Service interval set at a tricky 10k or once a year, whichever comes first,.. that means twice a year service for most anyway, at almost $600, if you drive more than 10k per year. Interval at every 15k like most others, would have been great.
- Rattle sound, around A-Pillar and fixed vents on top of dash. Not an isolated case, at least for the 2017/2018 builts. Unsure about the newer ones.
- Roof metal sheet is super, super soft, bents easier and more than a Chinese plastic takeaway container. I noticed it while hand washing.
- Passengers seat height adjustment would have been great. Way too low to get in and out for many. Mom and girlfriend prefer the backseats therefore.
- minimum Unleaded 91 fuel required. Runs super smooth on 98, on 91 however it jerks a little once in a while and a noticeable performance drop, on mine anyway.
Hope that helps
Supposed to be compact, but more mid sized sedan – The redesign is either like or dislike.... to me its a major love. The design is one of a kind and when it takes off the garage when my wife takes off with it some days, brings a big smile to my face every time. I've got the VTi-s version (non turbo) still has the pep of a honda engine (not in eco mode). Interior is futuristic and not the blingie… Read more
wanna be luxury design. Ppl complain about the touch volume control, but having a volume control on the steering wheel (both touch and physical) makes it a very minor issue. But post 2017 other releases comes with the volume knob design. I like how low the drivers seat can get and the thick leather steering makes the car a pleasure to drive. Road noise is low. And with two kids they enjoy the long drives thanks to the largeish windows and space in the back. I don't see it as a compact sedan, its more borderline mid size sedan. Honda 5 year warranty (now 7) with capped price servicing is icing on the cake.
Issue 01: not sure if it is with all cars, but if you have your stereo off you can hear the break pads brushng against the disk. Issue 02: Occasionally there is a rattle in the dashboard on the passenger side. Still unable to pinpoint exactly where.
How can Honda improve: Would like Honda to have the most safety tech across the rage, like other car manufacturers. Bring the Hybrid version as well.

Amazing car – Bought new in 2020, RS model with 1.5 litre turbo engine. Every aspect of this car oozes class and refinement. It is nimble and refined on the road, and looks sensational. A huge step up from my similarly priced Mazda 3.; Show details
Perfect for Our Needs Still ! – Bought the RS in 2019 and still enjoying every drive. Large for a small car more small medium but still small enough to manoeuvre around town but like the extra space when on trips. Im a driving enthusiast i have SS Commodore and the Civic turbo is a surprise it's only a 1.5 litre but pulls strong good on fuel and handles quit good. Interior is pleasant and styling is ok great safety package as well. Show details
Highly fuel efficient – Absolutely delighted with this car. Runs many km's on the smell of an oily rag. Don't notice that engine size is much smaller than my previous Accord. Use it every day either for local shopping or drives to the country. Always have it serviced by the local Honda dealership. Show details

2021 VTI-L Honda Civic Cruise Control – With cruise control on Australian models you cannot turn off the adaptive cruise that slows you down when approaching another slower vehicle, your vehicle slows down to their speed. Bloody annoying on long drives on dual lane freeways. It can be turned off on overseas models. Show details
Loved it until it stalled and stalled again – I bought 50 year edition of Honda civic in 2019 Dec. After an horrible buying experience at ALTO Honda Blacktown I was hoping that my woes are finished. Not even 1.5 years in, Honda calls back the car because its not fit for driving and fault can result into a mishap. All this time while I was driving Honda civic, I was putting my and my family's… Read more
life on risk. Honda Rydalmere then performs the desired service after 10 days. allegedly replacing the faulty component. 4 months later I am driving to work in morning , my car slows down from 80 to 30 kmh . I somehow manage to drive it to a safe parking spot. I contact Honda rydalmere. They again have no slots for available for repair. the latest day available is after 10 days. I ask for a courtesy car which I am refused very rudely.
After 10 day Honda rydalmere repairs my car and performs a service as well. The very next day the car stalls again in an 80 kmph speed zone putting me in risk ,only after driving less than 3 kilometres. Honda rydalmere sent me home a faulty car. I paid 300 dollars for nothing. I again try to book in a date for repair but the nearest date was 7 days later. I get my car towed to Honda Castle Hill. They tell me on 7th day that same component is faulty for which Car was called back 4 months ago. They ask me to pay 1400 dollars more to get it rectified. The car has 5 years warranty. I try to discuss this with Honda castle hill team but rather than understanding my problem and my frustration , the dealer tells me that he can pack my car up and I can take it home like that, I am without my car for past 1 month now, I am shelling out money on uber and I have no vehicle in emergencies. My only fault is that I trusted Honda.
I am afraid Honda dealership will give me faulty car again. I am afraid they will keep telling me to shell out money by making excuses leaving something faulty everytime. I am afraid I will end up in a mishap because Honda civic breaksdown in the middle of the road and the Honda service can not rectify the fault. I am disappointed , I will never buy honda again. I will never recommend this brand to any one.

Will never buy another Honda - the warranty is not worth the paper its written on – Faulty air conditioning not fixed after multiple returns over a course of years. They just regas functioning only a few days. Service staff treat customers with contempt when the item is warranty related. Left me at my wits end with no choice but to fix externally - they admitted they don't know how to fix it and offered no alternative. They will… Read more
not reimburse or acknowledge the well known air conditioning fault with this model. Honda Australia have the audacity of stating 'had we been aware of the problem' they would have actioned. This is my 4th new Honda.

One of the best cars I have owned – I use this car for all of my driving needs. I use this just about everyday. Car gets serviced every 10,000 km Only issue I have had was sensors on front grill were going on when nothing near this was fixed very quickly under Warranty Design fault Otherwise I am very happy with this car Customer service brilliant I believe that I will have many more years of driving with this car Show details
Oil dilution problems – 4th new Honda and possibly the worst. The new earth dreams 1.5l turbo motor has an oil dilution problem. I first noticed this when I checked the oil. The oil dipstick smelt of raw petrol and the level on the dip stick was 16mm above full. This is apparently a well known problem with the 1.5t turbo. I contacted Honda Australia - they referred me to… Read more
my local Honda dealer. I wrote to them over a month ago and no reply. I plan on doing my own independent oil analysis and go to Honda armed with the results before their excuses start. I am afraid my only solution to do oil changes more frequently (every 5000km) or keep driving, do the 10,000 /6 month service and cross my fingers. I suspect this motor is wearing fast due to petrol in the oil. Honda... you will be hearing from me again. I won’t let this issue go. Buyer beware!!!

which made it look cooler. My only wish was I wish they have an option to change the seat to leather because the next model with leather seats is $5000 expensive than what I bought.

Honda’s definition of parking sensor limitation - ‘car wash’ is categorised under ‘bad weather’ – I purchased a Brand-New Honda Civic from Austral Honda in May 19. The parking sensors are faulty and go off whenever they’re getting wet. They keep beeping for days After rain or car-wash, even without anything in front. Initially the dealer tried to talk me over that it’s normal for parking sensors to go off in the rain. Just because so many… Read more
people around me have parking sensors in their cars, I didn’t buy what they said. After contacted their service department for a few times, they told me Honda Australia is still waiting for a new counter measure parts to be released for the parking sensor grill. The waiting period can be up to 1 year, and I have to follow up the solution by myself as the service department wouldn’t be able to remember which cars have the sensor problems.
Apparently, this is a well-noted issue to Honda, but they didn’t do their due diligence to check. If customers were UNLUCKY to pick up the car on a sunny day, then they wouldn’t be able to find out the problem until it’s raining or washed the car. After I made a complaint and requested a car replacement, their customer service called me and told me to read the car manual without an apology for the inconvenience caused. In fact, the manual doesn’t mention rain or water would create issues to the parking sensor at all. When I said that, their customer service was surprised and told me he would go and read the manual and then call me back. Our conversation only lasted for 1 minute, and I was shocked by their unprofessional customer service. On the following day, he called and told me " the manual doesn't mention of rain but does mention of bad weather, so “rain water” and “car wash” are all categorised under the bad weather." I don’t know if any normal people would believe car-wash is related to bad weather?!
Regardless it's raining or car wash, the parking sensor should only go off when the car is approaching to objects, otherwise it’s not fit for purposes. However, once the car is sold, they don’t care about customers’ safety and the risk/loss we may face. Then what’s the whole point to spend extra money on those SAFETY features, when customer can’t use it from the very beginning and Honda doesn’t give a sh*t to safety. If there is any problem, they only find any ridiculous excuses to avoid taking responsibilities for the failure of their products, which doesn’t help customers instead make us more frustrated.
It has been 4 months since I made the purchase, there is still no solution. I paid lots of money on a BRAND NEW car just in order to have a hassle-free experience, but unfortunately see what I get. Before you make a decision to buy a Honda, rethink of the product quality you may get, and most importantly what kind of irresponsible customer service you will have to deal with!!!
Great on fuel and fun to drive – I use this car basically every day to commute to work as well as long road trips on the weekends. There's heaps of room in the back for friends to fit in as well as a deceptively larger boot than expected which is awesome. Cost on fuel and zipping around is great and on the open road this car is such a pleasure to drive.
I get the car serviced by Peter Warren Honda every year since I got it in 2017 and there hasn't been 1 issue with it since that time. Great car to grab if you're after a sedan.

Not fit for purpose – When the car works, it has a nice feel to it. BUT ... It has had so many things go wrong with it. A lot are design faults! For example, the - The boot leaked when it rained.
