The only thing this printer prints is test pages – We have had this printer now for years, I should have hit it with a sledge hammer years ago, it is never available to print when we need it, ink seems to be spent on test pages, every time I try to connect this to the computer it uses 6 - 10 sheets of paper I get supremely frustrated and I don't get what I want printed. I would not recommend it to anyone Show details

I wouldn't buy it – Its a cheap printer but the ink cartridges are expensive and doesn't last long. Does the job if you have only 1 computer connected, otherwise they clash and doesn't print, the doctor software fixes it but the second time goes back to same problem. Goes to sleep in about 2 minutes so if your using it through wifi hope its close otherwise you will… Read more

have to walk to it to wake up each time. Sometimes there are complications with setting it up through wifi. Trust me buy a better one!

Incredibly cheap. Good feature set for the money – Bought this for $34.98 at Officeworks. If you told me $35 would buy you a colour printer with complete wireless functionality and a scanner/copier built in I would have laughed at you. But its real. It exists. Its the HP Deskjet 2540. I have set it up and wirelessly printed from my Windows 10 laptop, Mavericks Macbook and Iphone 6Plus… Read more ·  1

using Airprint.

The black cartridge is incredibly sharp for an inkjet with little bleed even on the 80GSM paper I was using.

Colour prints are nice. I wouldn't use this to print professional photos but its not like HP is asking you to use it for this function. Also when a 6x4 print costs 9cents at Officeworks it makes no sense to do it at home.

Scanner is fine, no complaints

NEGATIVES: Its slow. Advertised 7ppm black/4ppm colour, its more like half that. Numbers would probably improve with longer documents. Cost of genuine consumables is high. Although you can save about 50% by buying generics from hottoner or inkstation which is my plan.

All in all, a great buy. I have purchased multiple HP printers before and reliability has always been excellent. I would expect the same from this machine.

Very reliable inkjet multi function printer – I bought this about 12 months ago from KMart in Devonport. It has been an excellent machine with no problems. It has a light usage of consumables and is easy used through its user menu. I would highly recommend this machine to any home office or personal user as it is a great versatile machine

Love this printer – This printer is amazing value for money. It does everything, easily and quickly and has wireless. I just got rid of my Canon Pixma - it stopped working and I couldn't fix it, only had it a few years. It was about 100 times slower and more difficult to use. I will stick with the HP from now on.
