Faulty from day 1 – From arrival brand new this printer will not work unless we turn it on and off between each print. It is clearly faulty. I have spent over 10 hours trying to get it fixed through support. They are no help, don't give me a case number so I can call back. The troubleshooting by them has been really non existent. Each call takes over 45 mins which is basically logging all my details only to find they can never find them when I call back. I called complaints- who logged it incorrectly so no one called me back. I eventually got on to a lady who says she'll call back, but doesn't as she is busy. We bought this for our work place as a separate personal type printer for when we don't want to send a document to the large network printer. The up shot is they can't fix it, but will take days to send out a replacement. I can not go back to the store as they are out of stock. The customer service has been appalling and technical support sorely inadequate.
Even posting on their facebook page has been really slow in getting any response. I have now had the printer replaced - they admit they have had very poor customer service and not handle things well, but I think are still quite arrogant and try to put fault back on me when it is clearly a faulty product and incorrect customer service by their own admission.
post script, I called office works to say how bad HP was, the office works call center lady was so nice and understanding and sent me a new printer the next day with the courier taking to non working one back to them. CAN NOT fault office works - the lady was awesome
Great with built in Drivers – The built-in drivers really made initial setup a breeze. I use it's wireless connectivity over my home network of about 5 PC and they can all print without issue. I've even setup my ipad3 to print via the hp eprint. It's a very compact printer so can fit on my wife's sewing table were she prints off patterns. The cost per page to print is good if you ebay the toner otherwise the print numbers are not that great. Compact, wireless, built-in drivers Limited toner per cartridge.
Great, fast and easy to setup small office printer – This was my first network (P1102w) and laser printer. Installing was very easy and it didn't take a lot of time. The only problem I had with it is that iPad wasn't able to see him when the printer was on WiFi. I fixed that by adding a static IP. Bam with in seconds I was able to print even from the iPad. For the money you gave you can't really ask for more! Unfortunately you still have to install drivers for it on Windows, but on Mac and Linux it works out of the box. Check out HP ePrint service, great stuff :)! It also came with a free toner and a box of paper. Fast printer, HP ePrint, Wireless, easy setup and managment Too much packaging, drivers for Windows, need to set up a static IP
HP 1102w doesn't work – 1- 45 minutes trying to install/connect. Need HP support 2-No HP support phone number in manual 3-HP support link in the electronic manual goes to a site that doesn't work 4-Took HP 2 hours of helpful support, many restarts...success – one test page 5-Printer smokes while printing test pages...phone support shrug that off–more later 6-HP support manager asks to speak to me given it had been 2 hours...”sorry”...wow.
7-3 page word doc...More than 100 printed pages and counting? I tried to cancel the print job on the pc (which was showing a mere 3 pages of course)...but its still printing. Press the red “x” button on the machine...still printing...Press and hold it...still printing...Turn off power. Paper half way in/out of machine – no way of removing without damaging rollers.
8-...it was smoking the whole time...dusty smoke rather than burning smoke. hmmm
9-Call support again. Their answer..."sorry", can I send you some statistics on how reliable HP are. Seriously? They offer to send me a letter that I can print (I wish) and take it to the shop to get a refund.
10-HP sent me trouble shooting pdf’s after the event...why?
11-HP mentioned that they could reimburse the mobile phone call time (but not the double trips in fuel wasted to the retailer)...but never mentions in the email or letter hmmm
12-HP service letter to give to the retail shop comes on email with paragraphs repeated in many languages - despite speaking to me in English on the phone
13-The cover of the unit mentions you need windows and explorer 6.0-8.0...does not mention that you MUST have a wireless router. I know many of you will know this...but I don’t...and I am certain none of my parents or grandparents would. Yes – I have a router.
Officeworks people were helpful in getting me a refund - their comment was I could try a swap as it would be rare to suffer the same problem again...which I pointed out to me was...problem"s" and no - the experience left me not wanting to waste another half a day.
FYI – My pc and router 3 months old. I wanted a colour printer - but every highly rated unit from cnet or pcworld or Choice came with many review comments from people with many bad experiences. So I decided to go with a simple reliable mono laser from a company making them for 20 years, with the benefit of WIFI. I choose poorly. nothing in the end Doesn't work
