They lock you into their overpriced cartridges – Thanks to an automatic firmware update, my printer no longer accepts my aftermarket cartridges and now refuses to print anything at all unless I pay $273 for a genuine set (as opposed to $75 for a compatible after-market version). That's nearly as much as I paid for the whole printer! This is just extortion.

Purchased in at Betta Home Living for $319.

Good print quality ignore set up instruction in the box – I bought it to replace an aging Brother MFC with nonfunctioning access, no ethernet, wireless or USB response- DEAD. Sure I know this can't scan A3, don't want it to, however, I do want it to print A3. I bought this from Harvey Norman Maroochydore, set it up, printed fine with A4 paper, could not print A3. Rechecked everything, quick call to HN Maroochydore and their tech gave me the answer instantly.

Here it is:

IGNORE THE SET-UP INSTRUCTIONS, DO NOT install the HP SMART app, because it isn't!

If you do, when you come to print A3, you will see a drop-down box with A4 and Legal, NO A3.

If you have installed HP Smart, delete it, Instead, go to HP support and carefully select the option to download the main driver: Full Webpack 51.9.595 SJ001 Webpackexe.

You will have to dodge the repeated invitation to download HP (not) Smart, and of course, signing up for an ink supply contract.

Now provides a laundry list of printing options!. The interface is good, you can set a daily schedule for power off and on, and printing on a wired and wireless network via ipad, iphone, iMac, desktop on a network that spans 200m couldn't be better, set up on my Ubiquiti Dream Machine network was a cinch.

For the money ($258) its good value, even if it only lasts me a year it will have repaid its costs a few times over, as it has one of the lowest costs per page, colour and BW currently available.

Purchased in for $258.

Piece of junk – More suited to anchor than printer for instance 1/. Document feeder will only scan 1 side ie not duplex 2/. The power saver feature switches printer off and can’t be disabled 3/. The software (bloatware) simply will not load onto my laptop. The only way I can print is via my phone 4/. It doesn’t do a4 and a3 without having to change paper tray each time and reconfigure to accept new paper Size. It ensures that rainforests are depleted simply because it’s crap software. 5/. It’s big and heavy, the touch screen is hopeless, and why in this day and age does it install as a fax without an option not to? Unfortunately I’m stuck with it. But hopefully you’ve read this and are warned.

Perfect Injet Printer – I bought one at Harvey Nornam 2 months ago, this is the perfect inkjet printer at this price range. A3 printing, high print quality, large scan size, good price, using HP955 ink cartridge, WiFi or LAN, easy setup.
