Terrible – Very disappointed with this product, I have just spent $100 on ink cartridges on top of the print heads just trying to get it going, and now have to throw it in the bin. I am running a business and could not get my orders out today due to the printer having broken down. Wasted hours of time and hundreds of dollars trying to get a print out of this printer. There are heaps of forum discussions when you google the faults, and the support advice is 'turn off the printer' or 'throw out the cartridge if there's less than 30% ink left in it'. Hopeless. Won't buy HP again. Very compact looking unit, affordable and easy to use. We had to replace the magenta/cyan printhead about 6 mths ago, the printer was 2 years old (1 year out of warranty) and we were advised to purchase the black/yellow printheads at the same time as they often fail at a similar time. We were told this was a common fault with this printer. The cost of both print heads was around $280, about a quarter of the cost of the whole printer. Sure enough I had to replace the black/yellow printhead last month, but now the printer won't print black due to the printer alignment failing. This product will make a good boat anchor.
Terrible – Until this week, I would have rated the HP Officejet Pro L7580 4 or 5 stars. However, with the yellow cartridge popping out, the printer is virtually useless. Other people have sought HP support for this and other problems, only to be told that nothing can be done, as the warranty has expired! This problem is not just 'fair wear and tear' as the printer has had minimal use. To me, this is a 'design problem', or blatent 'planned obsolescence'. Even if this problem is resolved, I will never buy a HP printer again. As a business owner, I need a reliable printer. I have had the HP Officejet Pro L7580 for about 3 years. Until now, it has been very reliable with good quality printing for a small business. After 3 years, the yellow 88XL cartridge has started popping-out every 20 seconds or so. This odd behaviour started 1-2 weeks after installing a 'brand new' yellow HP 88XL replacement. This is very annoying as the printing stops as soon as the cartridge pops out. I am using the genuine HP 88XL cartridge, tried the old HP 88XL cartridge and the same thing happened. So, it is definitely the printer causing the problem. I have since researched some forums and have found several people with same problem.
Had a good couple of years but updates have wasted days of my time – The updates, fixes and scrubbers (this says it all - why do we need scrubbers - because basic uninstall is really bad) have left me cold on HP, I'll never buy another. I have tried to update firmware, software etc and fatal installation errors and services.exe crashes constantly. It's a joke! Could never get scanner and full software version working when networked Seeya HP It worked for a while probably on Windows 2000
Excellent – I am extremely happy with this item for the price that I paid. Its automatic feeder is great and works just like a regular photocopier when you need to scan/copy/fax numerous sheets of paper. Apart from the strange things the HP programs sometimes do on the screen, I would still recommend this machine for the home user or small home business. Looks stylish and is very compact for a machine with so many functions
Constant view of how much ink remains, paper tray is covered so that paper in the feeder doesn't get dusty when not being used. I have bought cheaper no name brand inks on ebay and the machine still works perfectly with them. Lid to paper tray gets stuck in up position and is difficult to push down with fearing of cracking something; HP software is temperamental (I have had probs in past with other HP machines playing up with their programs). Sometimes if you want to scan something, the HP image/scan program will not come up or doesn't offer options that were used previously.
Good – Good machine owned it for a year no problems that could not be fixed quickly. Most functions easily used. Cartridges easily replaced. Keeps printing until it senses no ink. It looks good and also compact. You can not use a refill system as the ink in the ink cartridges are in a pressure bladder. I have not found anyone who can refill. Replacement colour cartridges average $24 Aus dollars
