HP Smart Tank Wireless 455

Frustrating, useless, expensive – I have wasted so much time & money trying to get this printer to work. In the end it is easier and way less stressful to just print to a USB drive to a printer service locally and print there. All I seem to do is buy HP Smart Ink refills, fill up my printer, try to print - the quality is appalling. I'll then waste a heap of time and want to throw… Read more
the thing out of the window and I'm not usually someone who gets mad with inanimate objects. I'll print test pages, print quality diagnostics over & over. I'll do google searches, I'll use the HP Smart Tank app to try & then clean the printheads etc. Everything is too complicated and hard to find. I'm OK generally with IT but this printer and HP support has me beat so I hate to think how someone who does not feel confident would go. If you are in the market to waste hours printing test pages & searching through fixes and printing more test pages and then be told you have low ink when you've just replaced them with HP authentic ink refills...then this is the ideal printer. If you want to just refill your ink, open a document, click print and have a reasonable quality document in your hands in a short time then this is NOT THE PRINTER TO GET. Honestly this is the WORST printer I have ever had and I've lived in both hemispheres, I only occasionally print, I don't expect a lot, I'm just printing the odd one page document but each time I try & do that, this printer lets me down. I would have been better off just buying a much cheaper printer and throwing it away when the ink ran out & getting a new cheap one. This has to be one of the worst purchases I have ever made.
Unsatisfied with HP 455 Smart Tank Printer – Will not print with any colours that need black in them. Does not clean to be good again, scanned per instructions & no fix; rang HP support & got told not supported any more. Monochrome of course does not work & this affects coloured printing. Total junk – This HP (not so) Smart Tank Wireless 455 printer was okay for the 12 months of the warranty, then it stopped using Cyan when printing. When checked it states all 4 tanks are empty, yet they are more than 3/4 full, I've cleaned the printing heads about 20 times, I've taken the printer cartridge out and cleaned the head, still nothing. I've tried… Read more
the HP virtual assistant 3 times (may as well ask my dog), the most hopeless thing on the internet. HP does not want to know you once that warranty expires, they couldn't care less, once they have your money, that's it. It has been printing in B&W but now it's coming out in sepia. I notice it has been discontinued and I know exactly why. IT IS JUNK. They would have to offer me a 10 year warranty for me to ever buy another HP product.
Total waste of money – This printer has been nothing but useless. Paper wont load, multiple error messages including saying incompatible ink cartridges when it has genuine ones in it. Don't waste your money on this product. Show details
Won't connect to wifi after network change – We recently changed our wifi network and now this printer sits offline unless it is plugged into a USB cable between the laptop and printer. Thankfully the laptop stays on the desk next to it so I can still use it but it no longer allows printing from my phone. Show details

can't hear them!!! I am still waiting for a call back to buy yet another printer head??? this has been ongoing since the start of beginning April 2021 it is May and still no printer.. They will not replace and have no service people here in South Australia. Believe it or not, if it is 3 years old used once a forenight it is considered a consumable that has no recall ??? The last printer I had for 10 years still working and the person I gave it to still is using it!!! Stay away from HP for many reasons !!! Very unhappy customer - I will never purchase another HP product as long as I live!!! R Connolly case 5065047275|| Complaint: 5065048972 just so you know who I am if you read this !!! HP Are useless!!!
Sh!t, it wont print – Black print head becomes clogged, HP sent out new ones. It worked ten times and again it won't print, what a waste of money. All up I've done 20 pages of printing, now warranty has run out. Bad luck for me, I guess. I should have got the EPSON. Show details
No wonder they discontinued this product – 16 months minimal use, colour ink cartridge needs replacing. HP doesn’t have any in stock. Cost about same as new printer. HP customer service is non existent - can’t get through Show details
Good review Chris but still agree with the 0 to 1 star ratings on this printer – Hey Chris, thanks for your review. After those low ratings I was happy to read your review - I don't want to go through the warranty return / refund pain. However, I just tried those simple fixes you suggested and still no joy. I've had this printer just over a year now and I have never had it working yet. This is after getting a replacement… Read more
(which was very horrible process) from HP and out of the box, same issues. I'm going to return it and unfortunately agree with the low ratings.
I wish you could review people's reviews – If you could review review's then I'd be giving a lot of people 1 star. Ok don't buy this printer if you are over the age of 70 or a luddite but otherwise this printer is by far the best consumer printer on the market; especially if you print a lot and don't have unlimited money for printer ink. Printer ink is a total ripoff. It costs about $5/L… Read more
or less to manufacture but sells for literally tens of thousands of dollars per litre in disposable proprietary cartridges. To say it's the biggest scam since razor blades is a massive understatement.
That is... for every printer except this one. 6,000 pages for $25 worth of ink means that the paper is now the more expensive part of printing. Does it reflect the true price of ink? No... It's still a ripoff but it's about 10x better than the total ripoff that is every other printer and I'm guessing that there's probably third parties making the ink even cheaper by now.
Now, is the printer perfect? No. It has 2 problems which have very simple fixes and are spoken about as though if means this printer is garbage when it's the best this that's happening in consumer printers.
1) If you don't use the printer a lot then the ink jets will clog up. That's what people are complaining about when they say the printer stopped printing or is "printing lines". Look if you only print once or twice a year this will be a problem but maybe you shouldnt care about the price of ink and buy a different printer. However there is a simple fix.
The simple fix is to just print an entire page or 2 of total black or if printing colour then print the CMY colours of the ink on a page. Just google images either "black" or "CMYK" and you'll find an image that fits the bill to print.
2) It doesn't print double sided. If you really care then just take whatever has been printed single sided and then flip the paper over and put it back in the paper tray and print whatever you want on the back of the page. Is it the perfect solution? No...
But if having to manually load in paper to print double sided is the only downside for a printer that for me paid for itself just with the savings of printer ink in the first year alone (and easily paid for the extra paper I used printing single sided) then I really couldn't care any less.
Very impressive as a meme, truly horrendous as a printer – The realisation that a reality show based around this printers inability to function and people’s subsequent reactions would have some comedic potential was the only silver lining to what has been a challenging afternoon. The SmartTank’s distinct inability to establish a wifi connection, even if situated next to a router, the printers resolve to… Read more
never adhere to the actual dimensions of the paper (even if you chose the ‘fit to paper’ option in settings), and it’s tendency to turn off mid-print really will ruin an otherwise leisurely Saturday. I have it on good authority that if you trifle with this printer whilst in the process of trying to quit smoking you will punch a wall (it won’t damage the wall but it will be rather painful).
If you’re the type of person to scaffold plans for your weekend based on printer review websites than heed this advice; grab a nice bottle of red and use it to bludgeon this printer to death.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Worst Printer I have had – I have always sworn by HP products and always had HP Printers BUT this is the worse printer I have ever had, it continually drags a bunch of papers instead of 1 at a time and it jams and it is the slowest printer I have ever used. Will be changing to Epson Show details
Useless – Right from the start one in about five prints only without lines in printing. Have printed probably a total of 30 sheets and now will not print any black. (Tank has been topped up. -1 star as one star sounds slightly positive. Show details

NOT worth it – $399? Pretty high price for what you'd assume a pretty decent product. No. You're wrong. Good choice in reading the reviews beforehand. I didn't do that. Biggest mistake this year. Here we go: Doesn't connect to my (unlimited) WIFI, can't seem to connect to either laptop or phone, has paper jams all the time cause it thinks it's a good idea to… Read more
grab multiple pages at once, can't even print double-pages - this isn't the 18th century mate. DO NOT buy this printer. Terrible
Worst printer ever – Considering the price, this is the worst printer. Dont even think of buying it. It doesnt do the job. Forget double sided printing since it will not do it even manually. printing more than 50 page? good luck it will reset after a while and reprint the pages. Slowest printer as well. Show details
This printer is awful – I returned the first printer of this make / model after just 6 months as it just stopped printing. The second printer that I was given to replace it has such bad print quality, faded lettering, lines missing, streaky printing etc.... and I've only used it about 4 times. I'm returning to the store and won't accept another ThinkTank as a replacement. Show details
