Do not buy this!!

Loved the look of this bookcase and we were excited to get it home and build it. Pulled it out of the packaging - dirty stains along the edge of each shelf, wooden pegs snap, very hard to put together. We bought the white one. People who love this are either the handyman of the year or live with one because we found it a nightmare! There are better out there...please do yourself a favour and do not bother with this bookcase.
Inexpensive, practical
Cheap, nightmare to assemble, dirty marks and scratches on surfaces, hard to hammer together without putting dents in the wood (even when using a cloth between the wood and hammer!)

Simple and effective

We needed a bookshelf that could fit neatly lots of books and still look stylish.
This bookshelf does the trick, it is easy to install, cheap versus other bookshelves on the market and durable. We chose the black finish, it does not attract too much dust and looks good against a white wall.
We have had ours for 5 years and haven't looked back.
Cheap, timeless, good storage space

Great bookshelf for a toy room - in horizontal format - 4.5 stars

This bookcase can stand up in a vertical format (as in the picture above) or you can lie it sideways in a horizontal format. We have it sitting horizontally in our toy room for the kids' bookcase. Using it horizontally makes it more stable (it's heavy enough to stand firmly) and less likely to fall on anyone and more accessible for kids.
It's very sturdy and the square recesses are a good size for almost all the kids' books - it's only oversize books that don't fit. This is especially good because it means the kids can put their own books away.
It would be easy to wipe clean if it got dirty, but we haven't found that it attracts much in the way of dirt.
I can't remember the price, but being Ikea it was very reasonable. The birch effect is a nice, light look. It has gentle edges, not sharp.
You do have to put it together yourself, of course, but that wasn't too taxing.
We have a definite preference for solid wood furniture and this obviously isn't solid. But even in a house with solid furniture, this doesn't stick out as laminate, especially in a friendly toy room setting.
Stable when horizontal, good book-size recesses, durable, inexpensive, nice-looking
Not solid wood, but that's a matter of preference

One of the best items of furniture you can buy

The Expedit bookcases are absolutely fantastic. They are incredibly multifunctional- You can always find a use for it. I've used mine as a bookcase, Entertainment unit, room divider. It has been both vertically and horizontally, and I love that there is an ever changing range of accessories to suit.

These bookcases are great if you like a clean look for your home, with everything out of sight. I would definitely buy more of these bookcases in the future.
Multifunctional, cheap, good looking, solid
They last longer if you don't move house to often (the movers scratched one of mine quite badly)
