Totally not what I expected from IKEA – Where do I start? Reject shop quality. Bought the 16 cube in the black/brown last night and had just a lovely time assembling it (sarcasm) A carpenter might actually just quit life putting this piece of junk together. I wholeheartedly expected it to be made of cardboard (outside panels have corrugated board on the inside of them) fair enough.… Read more

What I wasn't expecting - build quality Fully assembled this product is wobbly (that's even with glueing the dowels in place) The dowels are 6mm, which means the holes should be 5.5mm, but they are more like 5.9 (loosely held) Next is the fact that the only screws that are holding it together is the outside 8 screws, simply not enough for structural integrity

The inner cubes all mount by just dowels and in my world that is rubbish.

There is plenty of ways you can incorporate thinner screws (say m3) to join several cubes together complementing the dowels For a cost of AUD$229

The only way you can make this product stable in its current form is to mount it to the wall or put a backboard on it $5 more dollars on screws and 2 seconds of CNC programming would have changed this review to 5 stars.

Fyi, the 4 pieces I have left out makes a negligible difference to strength (being that they are only connected by dowels) In the second and third photo I am showing the deflection with moderate one finger pressure it is deflecting by 10mm (massive amount)

Not happy.

Shelving fine but Linnmon table top (part of Kallax combination) is showing wear – 4x2 shelving unit is fine. But the Linnmon top (used as a desk) has shown edge wear after 3 years of "work from home". No kids or teenager ... just one old IT professional with a laptop, keyboard and monitor ... managed to wear out the edges as shown in photos. Show details

Ikea Kallax storage unit-it's okay but not great – I bought a Kallax storage unit, the 4x4 in the dark wood. The good-you can buy a really good range of different cubes to fit into it, in a range of colours, but these cubes are not cheap. I only bought 8 and it cost almost as much as the unit itself. Each storage box will hold a fair amount. It is a really great concept-a range of different… Read more

sized storage units which you can individualise with doors, cubes etc

The not so good bits. These units are a bit too cheap, they aren't quality and the result is you have to be careful just how much you store in them or what you store in them. Nothing overly heavy or you will break the shelving.

The top of mine has warped in that it is undulating. It isn't something you'd notice at a casual glance but the spots just on top of the vertical supports are ever slightly raised. I don't have much on top of my unit but even so, I have to be careful where I place things as the top is not quite flat.

To me, it is like a lot of Ikea stuff. You're not paying a premium but you're not getting something that is very sturdy, great quality and will give years of service either. I actually wish I could find a similar design type concept but in a quality wood etc. The Kallax is okay but it is moderately short term furniture that you have to put together yourself.

Litterly garbage – Bought IKEA (5x5 KALLAX) furniture for the first & last time in my life, paid 149 euro's and got a box of consumer papermache which they call "furniture" & these are the words of someone who does "upcycling" for a living. Show details

Good grief the Kallax doors – Love the shelving by itself but the door inserts are a nightmare. Cannot be installed using screwdrivers. Need a strong electric drill and lots of force. Two screws screw into the bookcase walls on the handle side of the insert. There are not any pre-made holes to help place and insert screws. The screws resist going in and bow the insert wall… Read more

out. Only by unscrewing and rescrewing several times PLUS FORCE do they go in. Then the issue of getting the doors level so the dont scrape the door frame. Not a quick job. Not easy and easy to mess up. Dont buy door inserts if you don't have a drill. The screw heads will just burr.

Love it! Transformed my entry! – I just bought the 4x1 Kallax white storage cube. I am extremely happy with it, it was so easy to put together...and I hate flat pack furniture. I also bought 4 of the wicker storage boxes. I have laid the cube flat and bought a cushion for the top so I am using it as shoe storage/ drop zone. It looks perfect in the entry of my home. It is very versatile and for $60 you cant go wrong. Show details

Awesome – I love these cube shelves. They're so easy to put together, they look awesome and can hold a lot of weight without falling a part. This is my second one, i've had my first one for about 6 years now.  Show details

Doors and drawers – Bought the 4x2 unit which as a female I put together with no problem at. However putting the door unit together using the instructions wasn’t working. Following online tutorials was no help. The door keeps falling off. I’m not even going to attempt the drawers. Will sell them on and find some other way to get the same effect.  Show details

A great and versatile unit at a good price – I purchased a kallax 4 x 2 storage unit to use as a TV stand for a large LCD TV. when used on its side, with 2 sets of castors this unit is perfect for the task. It's wide enough to fit a 65" LCD TV and feels really sturdy. Putting this unit together on my own was a real challenge due to the size of the side panels. So I would recommend 2… Read more

people to do it.

Also, I was concerned as I had to bang the middle panels quite hard to get them to fit.

Got one for my sewing room and one for my daughter room! – One is in my sewing room, with box insets and drawer option. The other is with box inserts only in my daughter's bedroom with all her toys. It's reasonably light, easy to put together and durable for a kids room. Depending on if you get boxes, cupboards or drawers (or nothing) there are a lot of options and looks. I got durable plastic boxes from… Read more

IKEA to match and I haven't been disappointed, they carry a lot and look stylish (but the boxes are much more fiddly to put together then the Kallax frame!) . All parts were in the kit - there were no missing parts.

Fits the bill – Think this might be the new version of the Expedit range. We had looked at other cheap furniture, including Bunnings which had similar shelving, but it was so tacky as the faux laminate on it was actually paper. Decided to try Ikea and bought this in white with a couple of drawers and cupboard doors. Brought it home and husband was able to put it… Read more

together, no worries. He was actually impressed with the precision of the whole thing. It is very lightweight though. Only made of super aerated chipboard, which I suppose cuts down on the weight as far as freight goes. It was supposed to come with eight foot pads, floor protectors, but only had four in the box. Luckily we had some left over from another lot we had when we moved into our new home, so it wasn't a huge problem for us. Don't know how it will go if it gets wet. Certainly wouldn't recommend it as every day family furniture. Especially not for children's rooms, don't think it could take the rough and tumble and spills. But for us, two adults, using it in an office like environment, it fits the bill.
