Kaiser Baas Photo Maker

Good when it worked, now unable to use – Purchased this product a few years back and it worked very well. Since then I have changed computers and can't locate the original CD that came with it. Have downloaded the drivers from the website as well as the imaging software that it mentioned in the manual. The software is unable to locate the scanner even though drivers have been installed a couple of times. Very disappointing. Show details
The support is non-existent – I purchased the Photo Maker a few years ago and have since changed my computer, the cd with the software can't be located. There is no support to download the files therefore the machine is useless. the remaining questions are pointless as the information require is gone.
Kaiser Baas Photomaker Pro - Good effective general scanner – I started the slide scanning work many years ago and have used Innovations scanner, QPix FS170 and Kaiser Baas Photomaker Pro - I bought the first two and the third was a present. All worked okay - to a certain extent although the Innovations Scanner was a bit disappointing. The Qpix was good and excellent with focus but very dark on some slides… Read more
that were dark initially. Sadly it conked out after about a year and doing a couple of thousand slides. Subsequently I have used the Photomaker Pro and it has been very good with the 35ml slides - doing all the remaining slides (and several thousand more than the Qpix). Whilst I can understand the occasional lemon scanner, I cannot say that about the Photomaker. I have found it to be excellent for what I want and therefore a good, effective scanner. I note that this scanner has been discontinued and I regard that as a great disappointment.
Excellent – A few years ago I was given a box with old Family negatives, some going back to t 1930 when my father was on a European tour, and a lot from our family in the 50,s,I am 80 years old and never seen some of these photos,I cut some of the large ones to fit and made my own carriage to put into the machine, now have photos of siblings and family that I would not have had,at my age that is priceless. Quality – A simple way to be able to view old slides again. Was fun doing the process. May not be top of the line, but did the job well. People shouldn't complain when they try to get a million dollar product for a budget price.
Frozen Capture – The photo maker worked well a few years ago but today it will not go past 'Capture'. The dreaded circle comes up and I have to Force Quite. Can't be used anymore, so will throw away and buy a better quality one.
Piece of rubbish – While going through my fathers belongings after his passing I found a Photomaker on his computer desk. He had obviously started to try to use it, as it was connected. I wondered why he had not mentioned it or showed us any photos he had copied from the dozens of slides he has of us as children. So I decided to take it home and try it out.... … Read more
Never, have I come across such a useless product in my life !!! The scans are just a blur of pixels...I'm positive he was extremely disappointed and upset at wasting money on it.
A good basic 35mm scanner – Was given this scanner as a fathers day present by my daughter. It does what it claims and for the price it is a very good scanner. The editing features are very simple but the image can be transferred into an image editing program if more detailed work is required. I'm extremely happy with it.
Very poor quality scans – I stupidly asked for this as a Christmas present! Good quality slides end up scanned as fuzzy poorly coloured rubbish that cannot even be fixed on Photoshop. Very disappointed. Do not waste your money.
Does the job,in a basic kind of way – I used it to scan 60 year old colour trannies & it did what I expected it to do.The editing tools are very elementary,so I just scan & then adjust in Photoshop.
Kaiser Baas Photomaker model KBA03005 - Simple and Acceptable – Maybe insufficient for professionals but I found it easy to set up and very simplified to use. I am a professional PC guy supporting older clients use PCs. The slides were 60 yrs old and small details come up fine. Tip for Win 8 use: follow the instruction on the support to add the Acquire From Film Scanner menu http://downloads.kaiserbaas.com/downloads/kba03005/Acquire.pdf Fine for the price.
Kaiser Baas Photomaker X4 - Rubbish – I bought this last week for $150. I presumed that getting the more expensive model that promised a 14 Megapixel resolution that I would be avoiding the image quality problems spoken of here. The sales assistant in the store I bought it from assured me that the resolution was so good that I would be able to print an A4 size photo or larger. … Read more
Turned out to be a mistaken assumption and totally inaccurate assurance. The image quality is abysmal when the image is displayed at the default size via your computer (where photos generally look the clearest). Forget about looking at it zoomed to 1:1. I've had some of these slides printed at a photo printing agency and they turned out fine, so I know it's not a problem with the quality of the negative.
The "inbuilt image editing" function is limited to very basic RGB and brightness changes, but due to the poor viewing screen you don't really know what you're seeing, so it's best not to do any editing via the machine anyway.
There is also supposed to be a function to be able to view the images on the SD card via your computer whilst the card is still in the photomaker. This doesn't work for me (I have windows 7).
The User Guide is very basic and offers little guidance for when things aren't working.
Very very disappointed and feeling ripped off. My recommendation would be not to buy any model of this product.
Pathetic – i bought this thinking it would be a great idea, but opened it up a felt how light it was a sort of realised i've bought a chunk of plastic, the instalation disk was not recongnised on my system MAC OSX 10.9.2, i browsed the web site looking for a solution but their website is hard to navigate and is really vague, so i took to google to find a… Read more

Wasn't recognised correctly – Purchased from OfficeWorks hoping to preserve some old family slides we found, but was unable to get it installed. It shows up in device manager as a 5MP USB Scanner, and the included software, once installed, wouldn't even starts - the splash screen would flash for an instant and then nothing would happen. Found some advice online to install an… Read more
OVT Scanner X64 driver, but there was no such driver on the software cd. Might just have to write this one off as a lesson in going for something cheap and simple. :/
Couldn't be made to work.

Kaiser baas is garbage – kaiser baas Photomaker, got from Office works, does not work with mac....software dvd was stuffed and did not load, had to go to the website but still did not load correctly, then wasted more time, found a download, installed, where does my life go? Not on this product anymore, do not waste your time or money... Looks good, great box with promises just does not work

Bought today, returning next day – Loading software was OK, except for installation instruction on the screen being obscured Header. Tray for negatives and for slides needs special touch to open, risking breakage every time. Closing of slide tray needs great care as, hinges are getting in the way of slides. On average I got from 50 % of my slides presentable photo, but other half… Read more
was useless.Reason is the automatic exposure averaging accross whole picture. If the slide has interesing well lit feature with darker backround or darker one against light backround, on saved pictures these features disapear. Out of range, and cannot be edited afterward. I compared performance with old OTEK scanner with manual exposure control and so I know those slides could be converted. (My OTEK has uneven light distribution, that is another story).
My advise, stay away from this product. German / Dutch name suggesting quality Automatic exposure producing unusable photos.
Don't waste your money on this piece of junk – Extremely disappointed in this piece of garbage as well as the lack of correct technical information provided by Dick Smith Electronics sales staff and the "no refund policy". Despite all of the on-box rantings about high resolution images, they were absolutely appalling compared with other high-quality scanners I have used over the years… Read more
(especially the excellent Konica Dual Scan IV).
At even its highest-quality settings, images were extremely contrasty (peoples' faces grossly overexposed and unrecognisable in shadowy areas) while the entire image appeared like a very blurry "despeckled" image at high magnification.
In my opinion this unit is an extremely basic scanner which might be okay for the average Joe Blow who has no real photographic skills, but its very limited settings (no real calibration options) means that photographers wishing to make high quality images of cherished slides will be stuck with just an expensive desk ornament.
In fact, I felt so strongly against even giving the thing away to someone else that I smashed mine into a thousand pieces.
Bad no-refund policy (replacement only); extremely poor-quality images at all settings (high contrast, "despeckled" appearance)

Hopeless Support – I'm trying to switch the thing off. Following the start up sequence, I should switch off and then remove the SD Card. But...it won't switch off except when I return it to the retailer and then it switches off perfectly! This is my second unit. I have tried finding out how to ask or contact Kaiser Baas and despite their claim of 24/7 tech support,… Read more
there is no such thing. Poor effort all round and incomplete instructions! I'll resort to removing the battery again! Fairly fast to use Shocking support
