Good value for money. Does the trick but I had to plug the battery first, wait 30 secs maybe, plug solar and after a few secs it works. Not a top shelf gadget - lights don’t really help me as they keep blinking 1 light to full and back again, but it appears to charge my batteries. Show reply
2025 update... the latest will charge both lithium lipo4 and AGM batteries and instruction booklet confirms this both in packaging and online pdf. BEWARE and mindful from my personal experience overnight or when battery is 100%, ive noticed the following... overnight next day but not every morning my batteries were not been charged. I had to… Read more
disconnect both Anderson's from the solar controller wait over 5 seconds and then plug back in for it to start charging. Today battery got to 100% , started using inverter and other power, and noticed 89% battery remaining so i saw the mppt solar controller in the same state where it had not started to charge the battery until i unplugged both Anderson's and waited more than 5 seconds before reconnecting and then it started charging again. Two red led lights constant lit, solar green led slow flash 3 times and repeats, load green light not lit. So good charger, not overheating temperature in range, as instructions state if overheat it will lower charge or stop, but this is not the case. So you have to be on your guard with this otherwise loose precious sunlight for solar charging.
We purchased the Kings plus 20 mppt controller and set it up as per instructions to lp04 and 300ah it read the battery was 85% then after a few hours at 140 ish watts input it said 100% then first trip away this Easter weekend the controller shut down and battery is dead flat and it’s hardly been used. It’s like no charge was being received from controller. And it’s directly from controller to battery. We are also using a new 200w king’s panel Show details

Dissatisfied – Only worked for one hour on first camping trip then the green light began flashing.took it back eastern creek they said it tested ok , took it home and hooked it up still flashing, not worth driving back again in fuel and tolls , just ordered a victron which I borrowed to get through the weekend worked perfectly, disappointed they didn’t believe me without a video, have purchased other products there without issue but these just rubbish

Doesn't work! – I bought this unit and found that it produced no output to charge my battery. I returned it to the shop for a refund and they apparently tested it and found it to be working - refund denied. I tried it further on my battery and found that it WOULD charge, but only if the battery was above 12.4V. Anything below this and it wouldn't work (even… Read more
though the specification provided with the unit indicate that it will work on a battery down to 12.0V). As a solar regulator to keep a battery topped up when camping, this thing is useless. Their convoluted process for gaining a refund is designed so that they DON'T give a refund - as can be seen by reading all the other reviews here. Can't be bothered dealing with them over a $40 item, so in the bin it goes and I will never set foot in one of their stores again.

Complete rubbish and potentially battery killers – I have two of these bought 3-4 years ago and back then they were advertised as lithium battery compatible and MPPT where one came with a 200W folding solar blanket that I bought and I bought a second Kings 20A MPPT solar controller to upgrade my other Kings 200W folding solar blanket from the original PWM solar controller that came with it. They… Read more
never worked with lithium batteries and a year or so after buying them 4WD Supacentre had to withdraw their claim that they were lithium compatible, very shoddy. One of the 200W folding solar blankets also failed after only light use over a couple of years and would only produce a maximimum of about 2.5 amps, down from 8-10 Amps originally when new. It went in the bin. I ended up buying two Renogy PWM solar controllers that are lithium compatible to replace the Kings ones and kept the Kings ones to use for other projects utilising lead-acid deep cycle batteries but lo and behold when I finally got the projects done a few years later (as of June 2024) both of the Kings solar controllers were charging the batteries at well over 15 volts, way too high, which would kill the batteries if left connected to them for long periods of time. This is a very serious flaw in them and I wasn't aware of it until I checked them with a multimeter since they don't have a digital display to show the charging voltage and other vital measurements and settings. One of them went into the bin a couple of months ago but I've still got one that I've removed and replaced with a Renogy controller very recently and I'm thinking to take it back to the local 4WD Supacentre in small pieces in a bag after punishment with a club hammer, just to make a point. So not only did 4WD Supacentre falsely claim originally that the controllers were lithium battery compatible but both of the controllers ended up being faulty and were seriously over-charging batteries to the point of potentially killing them or seriously shortening their life span. I have serious doubts that these Kings controllers are even MPPT technology and are more than likely just PWM tech pretending to be MPPT like so many other cheap ones on eBay and Alibaba. These particular Kings solar controllers are worse than useless, they are also potentially battery killing devices that could kill your batteries well before the end of their expected lifespan. I will not be buying any electronics from Kings ever again. I would rate this product with zero or even negative stars if I could.

Solar Controller best for AGM only – This solar controller promised better returns from my 200W solar blanket. It did deliver slightly more charge than the old PWM Controller when charging our AGM battery, but not much. However once we upgraded to Lithium, it wouldn't charge the batteries at all. It is not advertised as an AGM only unit, neither is it promoted as Lithium… Read more
compatible, like the more expensive unit, maybe it charges some Lithium, I don't know, but it wouldn't charge mine.

Rubbish product – I brought the regulator as a package deal with a 250W solar panel. When I tested it saw it was charging at 17 volts. Threw it away and fitted a Victron regulator.

Sub Standard Solar Controller – Solar controller is substandard and not worth buying. absolute garbage known to over charge batteries, Kings refunded cost of regulator, but still waiting for the postage money to be refunded. Mine was dead within three days of fitting. Show details

TWO SEPERATE CONTROLLERS not working on arrival – Purchased a Kings MPPT regulator which was not outputting a charge even though was given sufficient charge from my Kings solar panel. Was an absolute stuff around to get a replacement which also does not work and am now waiting on a response from the claims team to hopefully get a replacement or refund on my second/replacement regulator. This is such a shame because the Solar panel and 12v fridge I got from them seem to work great at the moment.

KINGS JUNK – Worked fine for 3 days then (kings) battery failed that was 3 days ago. Purchased new Century battery and now not fully charging. Went and bought another brand controller and seems to be going OK. Returns at 4wd suckcentre is slow just like their point of sale. 20 minutes in the que to buy junk that I feel like throwing at 4wd supercentre windows. NEVER, NEVER AGAIN. 3 hours of my life gone. Garbage – Ended up in the bin where it belongs. Took photos etc and sent to kings warranty. Then took more pictures etc… was told nothing wrong with it cause the voltage from the solar panel was around 20 volts. I was trying to make a claim on this controller. Ended up giving up after reading multiple reviews on this controller being faulty. Most the time it did not charge and when it did it was overcharging.

Worst product I've ever purchased – These mppt charges are absolutely useless. Don't buy one. Rubbish. Ruined my batteries. Only reason their selling them is once our batteries are Ruined their hoping we'll buy batteries from them. What a rort. Bunch of thieves. The worst dodgy product I've bought that costs thousands of dollars to fix my now Ruined batteries. Stop selling this rubbish. NOT HAPPY Show details

Unreliable – Just cooked 3 new battery’s. Connected up to 3 new batteries. Left the boat for 3 days checked the batteries...all boiled dry. They had been charged at 15.5 volts for 3 days. A good product for a paper weight. Show details

Good for the price was $39.95 – Got 2 of them in use over a year now, still working great, much better than the pwm. However i noticed it works better for the 12v system than 24v. My panel is 275w 36v. Charges 12v batteries can reach 20a, but when charges 24v batteries can only charge up to 25.4v with 2a, maybe because of the panel voltage is not high enough. Trying to add another panel to make them in series but not sure whats the max volt this little controller can handle. Show details · 1

Over charging – Purchased the 20a MPPT controller and solar blanket and when I connect to a 12v battery for charging the input voltage is in excess of 15v. This can seriously damage the battery and is not safe. Upon reading past reviews I see that this is a common problem. When I phoned for service the lady was very helpful and advised that maybe there was a bad batch. However, there has been no re call for this product. Show details

Bad quality equipment and unfair return policies – Purchased a massive 2 grand set up for my camper. The first mppt they sold me which came with the 250 watt solar panels was faulty and overcharged my battery. Got it replaced under warranty, then while away on my next trip, had the battery over discharge, which made me think the battery had developed a problem after being cooked. After testing… Read more
(worth noting, every time it takes them multiple days for each product), turns out I had a SECOND faulty mppt, not battery. After going in they told me that to get a refund for it, I'd have to take my solar panels off (which I'd already mounted and wired to my van's roof) and return them along with the mppt, even though they sell the two products separately. Not surprisingly, when I went to pick up the mppt on warranty replacement (as this was my only option) there was another woman there complaining about having the same issue. I've also seen videos online of the same mppt cooking people's batteries. If it's that common an issue, then the products should be recalled immediately and customers offered a refund. No doubt the over charging and discharging has taken years off my battery's life too, but they won't replace it. So after a couple days of trying the THIRD kings mppt, I had the same issue of not enough power being supplied to the battery and over discharge happening. Swapped it to a BCF 20amp mppt (worth noting it's much heavier and larger) and have had no issues for the last month. ADDITIONALLY the nuts and washers for the solar panel roof rack mounting brackets, purchased separately, were all coated in rust after only a couple weeks of being up there and exposed to nothing but inland rain, causing me to have to spend hours chasing up better quality replacements and removing my entire rooftop set up. Clearly cheap low quality stuff "adventure kings" is selling, with policies to take advantage of the consumers rather than offer them fair refunds/returns/exchanges. I'll find a better retailer next time.

Don't waste your money – I am having mixed results with this regulator. I have two sets of solar panels; a 250w and a 180w. Initially, l tried the regulator on the 250w and it just didn't seem to cope with the output and would shut off. I found that if l disconnected it from the battery and the sun, l could do a reset of sorts and it would work for a few more hours or… Read more
the rest of the daybut would need to be disconnected again the next day in order to charge. I then tried it in the 180w and it was great for a few days, getting the battery from 11.7v up to 12.9v but then it dropped away. Almost as if it got to 100% charge and then just turned off and didn't do a trickle charge to keep topped up. I did the reset as outlined above and its back on track but l don't know for how long. Obviously, you get what you pay for and at $50, its the right price. But l am not sure l could recommend this to someone who wanted a cheap, reliable, trouble free" set and forget " regulator for their camping set up. I think you might just have to pay the $150 for the Victron and get peace of mind, it will work as you expect it to.
** possibly, this is fault with my set up, so don't let it put you off buying this regulator. I will revise my review, experiment some more and report back. **
*** having used my 250w and 180w panels on a Victron 100 30 solar regulator and having a faultless experience with both, l can only conclude that the Kings regulator is at fault. My advice is steer clear of this product and spend the money on a Victron. You won't regret it. See my review on this website.***
