Horrible quality – It's great and heavy when you first get it, but within days it began to leak the beads through small rips in the fabric that kept forming. The lining fabric is very thin and tears very easily--it's not like I'm being rough with it. The beads get everywhere in the bead and are a hazard. I can only imagine how terrible these beads will be for the environment once I throw the blanket out.

Purchased at Kmart for $49.

Leaks Silica Beads (health hazard) – For less than $60 the Kmart weighted blanket seems like a steal! But the micro silica beads are definitely a major health hazard. The blanket leaks silica beads everywhere!! It’s small enough to inhale and may cause major respiratory damage, or it least clog your skin pores. Not to mention the micro plastic that will eventually get to our oceans and water systems.

Good, but not without flaws – I suffer from a level of anxiety and while researching one day, stumbled upon weighed blankets which appear to have gained popularity in recent years. Most of them run into the hundreds in cost and I was not prepared to fork out that much for something which might not work so bought the $49 one from Kmart. I have been using it for about 2 weeks now. While I can't say it has improved my overall sleep, it provides a degree of calmness when it is on me and is quite comfortable. It measures 150cm x 200cm so size wise, it is good enough for most people. Some flaws I have found so far is that the beads/sand tend to clump together inside the pockets which produces a loud rustling noise every time you move and it might not be thick enough in winter if you're a cold sleeper.

Overall, it is a good starting option for those who want to have a taste of weighted blankets without hurting the wallet. I would recommend giving this a go before forking out on more expensive options down the track if it is something you like.
