funny as it has to slide a bit to open, so I took it back and swapped it, no fuss. I set up the new tank carefully, handling the lid as gently as I could. Got the tank set up, my fish inside, went to shut it and there wasn't even a snap this time, just the lid in my hands and the broken rod floating in the tank. The rod is not even 2mm in diameter so it can't possibly hold the weight of the lid, given that there are grooves on the lid for the cables, showing that the weight of the lid is meant to hold the cables in place. I can't take it back now that it's fully set up, but it's such a stupid design flaw that it really shouldn't have even made it past the draft stage. Someone was clearly asleep when they signed off on this design element! Only buy it if you are happy with a lid that doesn't hinge and won't sit flat as it can't hold the cables in place.
