Kmart Anko Bluetooth Clock Radio

Light brightness – The light is way too bright on the alarm clock radio like a lighthouse, so I purchased the alarm clock way to dull. Is there an adjustment on the light sensor? Show details
anko no good – clock radio looked good in the box and that is its best feature. The buttons are confusing to figure out and use, settings confusing as well, if you get one dont lose the instructions. it sounds ok when going is a fairly solid feeling unit. The lights dont dim enough you can read by it at night, i wouldnt recommend this clock radio. Show details

Great value clock radio with bluetooth – This clock radio has decent sound, easy to access functions and a solid feel. I couldn't get the wireless charger to work (no biggie). The clock has 4 helpful brightness settings: off, mag-light, arc-welder and supernova. No need for a bedside lamp, or house lights. Massive power savings, as the street lights outside our house don't automatically… Read more
start anymore. Great for your social life too, as we now have regular visits from plane loads of people who mistake us for an international airport. Recommended product.
Frustrating to use – Pros: wireless charging is great. Sound quality is good. Cons: double/long press buttons are frustrating to use. When the unit is switched off then back on the volume reverts to a loud setting regardless of previous volume when switched off. Clock doesn't stay displayed when listening to radio. Overall, would not recommend Show details
It's Ok, frustrating settings, looks nice – This is my review for Anko, Bluetooth, Clock radio, wireless charger, model SC-810 a Kmart brand. I purchased this from Kmart for $59. 'Made In China'. The unit is nice looking and has some weight to it. It's large with measurement dimensions W 18cm x H 8cm x D 13cm. I like the fact that this unit has some weight to it and has better stability on… Read more
my bedside table. (I bought this Anko unit to replace the tragic Blaupunkt unit).
The numbers, time and radio stations are huge and are displayed as stacked. The time is only displayed as 24 hundred hours. Eg. 13.42. (The time is not displayed as AM/PM). There is a black metal mesh covering the display and front speakers which also assists in shading the luminosity of the display. There's a dim option and switch off the display completely. At bed time, I've had the display dimmed at lowest setting and this was acceptable for me in my bedroom .
It has some frustrating adjustments, for example with the buttons and settings, some buttons have a dual purpose eg quick press or long press buttons to change or adjust the settings eg. The volume Up/Down buttons are also for time adjustment and fine tune radio station. I found myself everytime I didn't do this correctly I'd be resetting the auto tuner or if I wanted to change the volume I'd be accidentally changing the radio station fine tune adjustment and it's frustrating and it does take a while to get used to and learn.
There no dials to turn. Everything is soft touch buttons for selections. Most of the buttons are hard to read. Annoying feature for me is the Bluetooth announcement which starts speaking loudly everytime I switch on the unit.
Another annoying feature is that while I'm listening to FM radio, only the radio station is displayed, not the time. So I need to quick press the 'Clock' button for the unit to display the time momentarily. The radio offers one band only, FM analogue only. (There is no AM radio setting).
The sound is good with stereo front speakers and rear passive rectangular bass radiator. The information on the packaging is printed "6 watts speaker output" but what that really mean is 3 watts x 2 speaker drivers (at the very front of the unit). The volume setting can be set to a loud level. Even with 6 watts speaker output the sound is powerful. However there's no sound adjustment, just volume up or down.
The Instruction Manual is extremely difficult to understand as the English is poor and some terminology and references are simply wrong. (Eg. "Speaker" what they mean is the unit). The illustration captions on page 3 are so tiny at 1pt font which is ridiculously illegible. There's no information supplied for the Warranty nor Warranty Registration (Anko/Kmart, please advise).
Radio reception, I can't receive a single station which has absolutely crystal clear reception (but that could be my location in a regional area). The clearer station reception is Triple J and ABC. The antenna is actually a wire to hang somewhere. So i will try to add some clip-on ferrite core filter to that wire to reduce noise or static etc. The Bluetooth feature connected fine to my Android phone with Android 10 and my Apple MacBook Air. You will need to connect a separate power adaptor (supplied) with this unit.
This unit does not have a separate battery compartment as a back-up during a power outage or cutting off the power. (I wish I knew this before I bought it otherwise I wouldn't have chosen this model). This unit will not memorise the time nor the settings and I found myself resetting everything after the power came back on.
I haven't tried the wireless charging function yet.
If you're a person who doesn't like using and changing or making selections with dual purpose buttons, if you don't get used to quick press or long press buttons, the process of setting up of this unit may really confuse you and even frustrate you at first. While the instructions are not correctly written, after much trial and errors I found myself self-learning of these multipurpose buttons and adjustments. And let's not forget that to switch on the FM tuner it's actually a quick double press with the FM button (there's no mention of such in the Instruction Manual).
It appears that just about all manufacturers are using these multipurpose buttons for adjusting or selection with these all plastic alarm clock radios. So I can't avoid them. At this price range this is something I had to accept. This is a call for manufacturers to bring back dial adjustment and click buttons please.
I've only had this unit for a day so I don't know if it will last long or if it is quality.
