Kmart Anko Cross Cut Shredder

If you want to shred 10 pages one at a time and can do it in under 2 minutes this is for you. It can’t shred the stated 5 pages and struggles with 2. It overheats very quickly about 20 pages one at a time is the most I have managed. It also jams quickly and this requires manually pick the bits out but if it jams internally where you can’t get at the paper you either pull it apart or forget it. It says put it in reverse for jams but most jams don’t allow it to reverse simply if it is jammed forward it is jammed in reverse as well. It might be cheap but if it’s useless it isn’t cheap it’s a waste of money. If it stated on the box it’s duty cycle is 2 minutes operating followed by 40 minutes cooling down I would not have purchased it at any price. You need to read the instruction book to find that out and it’s in the sealed box.

It certainly does the job! – In the midst of a major declutter I was ready to tackle piles of filed-away paperwork and old photographs in my office. Hubby brought two different shredders up from the garage but both were dead, so it was time to invest in a new one. Read numerous online reviews before buying the Anko Cross Cut Shredder (Model: JLR-72936) from Kmart. At $52 and with positive reviews it seemed like a good option. To be honest I was worried that it mightn't cope with the task of shredding photos, but I have been pleasantly surprised. They pass through smoothly and it cross-cut minces them as well as I had hoped. Time will tell on the longevity of this unit and I will update this review as we progress.

You're welcome!
Cheap but Competent Shredder – I bought this shredder because it was small enough to fit into the space I had available and it was cheap. Although I was happy to pay more for a good quality shredder, there were so many conflicting reviews that I couldn't find one I knew would be good. At $49 from KMart, this cross-cut shredder with no reviews will hopefully last the distance. So far, so good.
Pros: - Small: 32 (h) x 31(w) x 19(d) cm - Cross-cut shredding, not strip shredding - cut size is 5 x 35mm - Fold-down handle for the lid - I didn't know it would be as handy as it is! - Small window in the bin so you can see how full it is - Quite fast at shredding
Cons: - 12 month warranty - you have to pay a lot more to get longer - Only 5 sheets at a time of 80gsm paper - 2 minute duty cycle and 40 minute rest time
I initially thought that the 5 sheets and 2 minutes duty cycle (how long before you have to rest it) would be too limiting. However it gets through the papers quickly so that it isn't a problem for me in a home office environment.
No mention is made in the instructions of oiling the cutter, but I will be doing that to ensure that I get the most out of it.
