Maybe we got a bad batch but 3 out of 3 did not inflate, and the valve on them is a st^pid design that does not allow you to use any kind of pump. Trying to add breaths was useless. I tried everything they say to do with these mats - rolling and unrolling, giving them a few days etc. But on the first night I was in pain very quickly. It’s the same as sleeping on the ground. Show details

A product to this cheap is always suspicious but the technicality is in the words "self-inflatable mattress", the mattress part is self-inflatable- the pillow part is not. fortunately as long as you have some half decent lung capacity, you can blow into it and blow up. I don't recommend this for anyone of 55 kilos though. You'd be touching the ground. Its $18 but its honestly worth 10yuan Show details

Not bad for the price – I tried the kmart air mattress ($39) during my latest bushwalk to Pelion hut in Tasmania. It gave a fairly decent level of comfort given that I weigh over 90kgs. Pros: Not expensive at $39. I liked the pillow, just wrapped a jumper around it and it was quite comfortable. Didn't squeak or make loud noises like my Sea to summit ether light does… Read more ·  1

when sleeping in the bunks. Good for lighter weight people. Cons: Doesn't come with a patch kit. You have to inflate using breath, doesn't come with an inflation bag. Not as insulated as other mats You need to lay reasonably flat and spread your weight across the mattress to stay supported.

All in all for the price, it does what it's designed to do. As always inflate and check for leaks prior to getting out on the track.

Kmart TPU Air Mattress – This mattress is mouth blown, slightly different model to the self inflating option, and appeared ok at first when testing at home. Unfortunately my daughter brought it camping and was freezing during the night as the mattress continually deflated after 5 mins. The few reviews at kmart online are positive but its a shame you cant post genuine… Read more

reviews there unless you purchase online so I have a feeling many poor reviews are missing. $ down the drain unless we can return to store. Spend a few more $ for something guaranteed to work (friend spent double at army disposal and it worked perfectly).

Awesome alternative to $$$$$ hiking mats – This is a hiking mat so if you're looking to sleep on a thick mattress of clouds this isn't for you. For the price didn't expect much, so was surprised to discover how similar in quality and comfort to the expensive hiking mats. The biggest difference in comparison would be pack size - this rolls up to about sleeping bag size compared to the… Read more

'proper' hiking mats.

Material feels similar; thickness and comfort for a hiking mat is excellent. Used with a nato mat underneath for added ground support and slept very well for a 5 night light pack camping trip. Wouldn't use for hiking purely because of pack size but excellent for motorbike trips and lightweight camping trips. Would be great as an extra layer on swag mattress for improved support.

For other reviews complaining about the lack of density/thickness they are comparing to a standard self inflating 'camping' mattress.

THIS IS A HIKING MAT. It is meant to be thin. And for the price absolutely worth the purchase for both comfort and price.

Worst sleep of my life – This thing is awful, it doesn't inflate to be very thick, even with additional breaths to increase the amount of air, so still feels like you're lying on very hard ground. The clips are also a joke, the slightest movement and they unclip. Don't bother, you're better off with a flocked pump inflated mattress - waaaaaaaayyy more comfortable.

Kmart Single Self Inflating Mattress – I bought this when looking for a cheap replacement for my camping mattress, and didn't have time to wait for shipping with online shopping. It is one of the cheapest you can buy directly off the shelves, but there are a few trade offs. 1) The original packaging is big. It comes in it's own bag which is roughly 23cm diameter x 35cm length.… Read more

However, if you roll it up carefully, it will fit in Kmart's 5 litre dry bag, which takes it down to about 17cm diameter x 33cm length. This isn't a tiny size by any means, but makes a real difference in packing.

2) The pillow section is not self inflating, and the main section needs 4 or 5 breaths to fully inflate.

3) It's not the lightest on the market. In the 5L dry bag, it is approx. 1265g.

Despite this, it is comfortable to sleep on, and the price versus the size and weight make it a decent entry level product, or something to have in the back of the car for emergencies.
