Kobo Libra Colour
3 reviews
I was going to give it a three but on reflection there are a lot of things that make the experience a bit disappointing. This is my first e-reader. I like that it is light, and that it has buttons to turn the page which are comfortably located for me. It’s easy to add books to the Wishlist to preview and purchase. Even though it is colour, which some reviews mentioned will affect the crispness of the text, I think it’s fine. There are a few annoying things. Some of the books I read (mostly non fiction) are pretty expensive and they don’t seem to have specials for any good books. The screen is touchy so i inadvertently flick through pages and need to find my place again. When the stylus is magnetically attached to the side with the buttons, the kobo flicks pages and I lose my place. It’s pretty distracting. And I specifically bought the ereader so that I would mark up pdfs, but the screen is tiny and the text on pdfs is not dynamic, so I need to either read the tiny text or enlarge it and move the image around like a microfiche.neither of those options are appealing so I guess I need to consider purchasing something else. There are limited options for the notepad. I like the feature to convert handwriting to text but that’s only available for the basic notebook. As soon as you switch to the advanced notebook, which has different templates, you lose the functionality. Pretty disappointing overall.
Purchased in at JB Hi-Fi for $330.
Very happy with my new Kobo Libra Colour ereader. It's my first ereader and I read a lot of reviews about ereaders before taking the plunge. I I especially like being able to borrow library books through Libby which is easy with Kobo LC. I can also purchase ebooks and audio books online. I can adjust the font and brightness to suit me. There is still a lot more for me to learn about my new device eg notebook, annotations etc. I am not great with technology but it was not too hard to get up and reading. Loving it.

I was given this as a birthday gift after wanting an ebook that I could read library books from. I was eyeing the kobo brand for about a year, and loved their recycled plastics and environmentally friendly mindset. All I wanted was to read library books on an ebook and so many of the reviews I read were mixed about this function. So I've decided to share my own review that will hopefully help others like me.
You can sync your Libby account to the kobo itself, and any books you borrow from borrowbox or other library apps, you can do so through Adobe. Yes, this does require a computer connection, but it was so much easier than I thought it was going to be, and the books automatically return themselves (in my experience). There's also direct sync functionality with Dropbox and Google drive.
I wasn't expecting to receive the libra as a gift and had always intended on getting the clara. Which meant, I didn't initially have use for the connotations or the notebook function. But I ended up using my kobo as my travel diary when I travelled and the stylus is magnetic and its also good for doodling on if you like to do that kinda thing.
Theres so many features and functions I have yet to discover, no doubt. But I highly highly recommend kobo over kindle. And I am so so grateful I received such a thoughtful and handy gift. It does everything I was hoping for, and more!!
