Kogan 42" LED TV Full HD Questions & Answers
Verifiedmy Kogan TV (not a smart tv) model KALED42XXXVA bought about 6yrs ago was working perfect, recently when I turn it on the screen blinks shows KOGAN for less than a second then goes black, the small light down right side for remote sensor is still green. every time I repeat this again, blinks and goes dark. TV is alive but screen wont stay on. At the first started this problem I tried many times with TV power key or remote power button, it was staying on, but now blinks and wont stay on. Any one please tell me how to bring it back to normal. Thanks- Col

Does anyone know the universal remote code?
try these: 3572, 4291, 3296, 3528, 3434
does it have text?
Yes, subtitles. I just checked with "Lion" on SBS Movies channel.
Yes, text (when supported by the program)and subtitles
Kogan KALED42XXXVA won't turn on after power outage. Need product support ASAP but there is no Kogan Support phone number, only a form on the website and Twitter account. Only 7 months old and I've only had it for 6 weeks. Very unhappy.
First thing that springs to mind is, was it plugged directly into the wall or was it connected through a powerboard with surge protection AND quick-trip circuit breaker? If so, have you reset the powerboard?
If straight into the wall, whatever electrical fault that caused the outage, say lightning, has time to burn out the inner circuitry of the tv before a household fuse or circuit breaker will stop it.
If plugged into your everyday powerboard with surge protection it can still happen if it doesn't react fast enough - especially with lightning! A surge protection powerboard has a reset button that needs to be pressed after a power surge. Also it's worth spending extra on a surge protection powerboard with quick-trip breaker (they're not cheap) if you have expensive equipment eg home theatre worth thousands of dollars.
Having said that, it's only a cheap tv and I only use a cheap powerboard with surge protection. It works good enough where I live. Practically everything (except the fridge) in my house with a computer chip of any sort NEVER PLUGS STRAIGHT INTO A WALL. Which reminds me, I'd better get one for that... Computer chips are much more sensitive to power surges than toasters, kettles, etc
If you were using a powerboard with protection (most of them have it these days), and the red standby light is on but won't turn green using new batteries in the remote, either the internal switch is blown or possibly the infrared sensor is damaged. If however the red light isn't even on, try resetting the button on the powerboard / switching powerboards / connect something else to make sure it works. If you have multiple devices running through the same powerboard and they all work it then it is reasonable to assume that something is wrong in the guts of the tv. Or the remote.
That's all I can think of Nikki. I think I read somewhere that a household fuse or breaker can take up to 500 milliseconds to blow (half a second); a surge protector about a tenth of that; and a quick-trip circuit breaking powerboard less than 10 milliseconds.
Had this tv for many years , it has a password lock and I don't remember setting it , I tried 0000 and it doesn't work , any ideas how to reset it
You could try the factory reset. external link
That seems to be good advice, press menu then 1147, brings up a set of reset options
Caroline, it is not clear whether you want to set a password or turn it off
Hi Tech staff,
The problem is that the moment the TV is turned ON using the remote, even after the TV has been OFF for a period of time and disconnected from the mains then restarted, it goes into the channel scan mode. Nothing can stop this cycle, it continues for hours and does NOTstop. The cycle is repeated after the TV is turned OFF for a period with all power OFF (even the mains) again.
I showed this TV to a software engineer friend and he told me that the Firmware is corrupted. I need to REFLASH the memory.
Can you please supply the correct firmware for my model, the KALED42XXXZA. The firmware on your website does not include my model of TV for such a firmware upgrade.
Regards, Rob
Note: I have purchased 6 TVs from you in the past. This is the 3rd to have died.
Had this TV for only a month and been gaming in it around 2 hrs max a day so minimal use, all of a sudden the screen will freeze up go all red and reset or even turn off completely.
This also happens with some red green and blue vertical lines all over the TV so it seems like a glitch, any possible solutions? As it's becoming very frustrating to even try turning it on anymore.
I'm interested in this TV also. With the PVR function. Is it possible to watch one channel while recording another? Not sure of the exact model but is advertised as Kogan 42" Full HD LED TV (Series 7 QF7000)
I live in perth western australia.. I am considering buying the kogan 42" TV that is on special at the moment.. my main concern is are there any places in perth who can carry out warranty repairs etc? too expensive to send back over east for repairs..
I cant find the model number but it is the current Kogan 42" LED TV (Series 7 QF7000) that is advertised for $329.00
thanks
Sorry Paul, I'm in Victoria so I'm not sure. That said, I've had my Kogan for almost a year and haven't had any issues!
Hi Paul, thanks for your question. We are able to offer collection and warranty repairs of TV for any address that we are able to ship your initial order to. In some cases we can arrange a local associated repair agent to collect the TV from your address. We'll have no problems shipping or servicing a 42" TV in WA.
The only exception are larger TVs such as the 65" and 75", which can only be shipped to Melbourne and Sydney metro areas. With these larger TVs we can only arrange a warranty collection within the Melbourne and Sydney metro areas due to their size.
If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to give us a call on 1300 304 292 8am to 8pm on weekdays, and 10am to 6pm on weekends (AEDT).

Hi unfortunately this a fault of kogan TVs if the TV is used in usb mode the TV can not be repaired and can not be reset when it does not start that is you get a blank screen you need to return the TV to Kogan and be put on the end of the que for warranty issues this could be up to two or three months if you call 1300304292 you will be asked to press number 3 for warranty issues you will then be cut off
Pls where the USB port located on this tv?
Mine was at the back underneath the screen hope this helps.
Hi, Thank you for your question. These are generally at the back alongside the other ports like HDMI, headphone jack, etc. Your product manual will have a diagram in the introductory section, and you can access it online by checking the product code from the back of the TV and plugging it in here: external link

A friend has a KALED42XXXAE
He has noticed a crackling sound and smell of burning.
It was turned off immediately, and no further attempts made.
It is just out of warranty.
Anyone had a similar problem ?
Anyone know of a repairer that is familiar with this model ?
Or know of a repairer that is reliable and cheap.
He (who has this TV) is located in the St Kilda / Caulfield suburb of Melbourne
Thanks,
Rob
