 AI reviews summary

The overall sentiment for Latitude Financial is overwhelmingly negative, with reviewers frequently describing the company as predatory and dishonest. Customers report significant frustration with a fee structure that persists even on zero-balance accounts, alongside a customer service department that is often cited as unreachable, rude, or incompetent. A recurring theme is the extreme difficulty in closing accounts, leading many users to lodge formal complaints with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).

Pros
Credit accessibility: Some users found it easier to get approved with a low income or limited credit history compared to traditional banks.
Retailer partnerships: The availability of interest-free payment plans through major retailers (e.g., Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi) is noted as a convenient entry point.
Cash features: The ability to perform cash withdrawals is mentioned as a useful feature for specific purchase needs.
Cons
Excessive and hidden fees: Frequent complaints regarding $10.95 monthly service fees on zero balances, $5 paper statement fees, and $45 late/dishonour fees despite proactive payments.
Obstructed account closure: Numerous reports of the company refusing to close accounts, providing false confirmation of closure, or continuing to charge fees after an account was supposedly finalised.
Poor customer support: Extensive wait times and interactions with offshore staff who are described as unhelpful, unable to resolve technical issues, or prone to disconnecting calls.
Credit reporting errors: Multiple instances where Latitude failed to update credit registries, reported duplicate accounts, or incorrectly flagged defaults, negatively impacting customers' credit scores.
Verdict

Latitude Financial is widely viewed by its customers as a "debt trap" due to its complex fee structures and administrative incompetence. While it offers accessible credit and interest-free retail plans, the high risk of ongoing charges after repayment and the documented difficulty in closing accounts make it a highly contentious choice for consumers.

Please check your credit history if you are a client or formal client of Lattitude Financial. After emailing them as I was trading in a car, and them telling me they can put a payment on hold. I find out later, they actually see this is a missed payment, and send to the credit beauros which could impact your credit history. Not once did they… Read more

advise me on this, I just wanted it on hold while I dealt with a new car dealership, and they failed to alert me to this.

Check your credit history, as Lattitude financial could have impacted it without you even knowing it.

Avoid Latitude Financial if you can. They hit you with fees left and right even when you carry zero debt — just for keeping a card open. There's no reward for staying debt-free with them, only charges. Closing my account and taking my business elsewhere.

We accidentally overpaid when trying to clear the balance on our Latitude card account. For months we received emails to claim the $11 overpayment back. So we did. They charged us a $10.95 processing fee. So now we basically owe them $11 plus another processing fee, so our stupid credit will now cost us $22. Not happy.

My experience with Latitude Financial Services has been disappointing, particularly around how they manage customer credit limits. Without warning or clear communication, my credit limit was reduced leaving me unexpectedly unable to rely on funds I had responsibly planned around. There was no proactive notification, no explanation provided… Read more

upfront, and no consideration of the impact this would have.

For a financial provider, this lack of transparency is a serious issue. Customers make decisions based on available credit, and changing that without notice undermines trust and creates unnecessary stress.

When I attempted to seek clarification, the response lacked accountability and clarity. It felt like a generic process rather than a customer-focused resolution.

What’s most concerning: • No prior communication before reducing the limit • No clear reasoning provided • Immediate impact on financial planning and commitments • Limited support when trying to resolve the issue

Final take: Latitude may offer convenient credit products, but reliability and communication are lacking where it matters most. If you plan to use them, be aware that your approved limit may not be as stable as you expect.

This financial institution is all about fees. I made a mistake and did a balance transfer. I have been hit with fees that are not really justified. As part of the promotion, I was offered no annual fee for the first year, they charged me an annual fee No balance transfer fee. They charged me that too. Then when I made repayment, they charged me a fee for making a repayment, crazy! AFCA needs to look into their dodgy operation.

I came back from overseas only to find my card had been charged incorrectly. I called to dispute the charge then over a month later was told it was my fault the charged went through. the details myself to the hacker when I actually never did. Although clearly latitude is at fault they want me to pay for these charges. The customer service there is terrible, it is the worse choice for anywone. Stay away they are so quick to blame you for them not doing the job properly. They went on to say that I should have secured the account when obviously they did not.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I have received. I applied for the balance transfer offer and, upon receiving the card, submitted my balance transfer request. However, this request was rejected. When I contacted customer service, I was informed that my offer had expired on 31 July. I pointed out that I had the confirmation email in… Read more

front of me, which clearly stated that the offer ends on 31 August. Despite this, the representative continued to insist otherwise.

When I requested the support email address so I could forward the original communication from Latitude, the representative hesitated, then stated I would need to complete an additional form.

At that point, I decided to close the account as the process had become unnecessarily complicated and inconvenient.

I have an Experian credit score of 778. I have a pretty low rent ie 300 a month. I earn 1800 pf yet latitude took it apon themselves to charge me a higher rate then 17%, do not use them they are horrible. They will take your money when ever they can. They will steal your money.

I’ve had a latitude credit card for the past 5 months, recently switched over to a larger card with Latitude. It’s been a great option for me to build my credit score, as with no credit history and low income most banks won’t approve you. I started with a $1k card now using a $2k card, got approved for much more, but it’s important to know what… Read more ·  1

you can pay. It seems like most people here don’t actually take the time to read through terms & conditions, or understand how credit works. Like, if you don’t manage your money well I don’t think you should take it out on the company lol I pay in full every month, I never use more than 30% of the cards value in one statement period, I get digital statements. I’m now on their lower 10% card, and have no annual fees for a year. When I switched over, it was super easy, and when I called their office support was there. I also use ClearScore to keep track of my score. It beats using companies like PayPal’s pay in 4 or AfterPay (which are credit, people!), because I can pay off my balance at any time and easily keep track of what I’ve spent. Just don’t use credit cards as an extension to your income, rather treat it as a loan you pay back in a month, and you should be good. Or, get on a lower rate card and plan out when you’ll pay it, so you don’t get stung with too much interest. just my piece!

Extremely disappointing and dishonest experience with Latitude Finance. I requested to close my account weeks ago and paid the outstanding balance in full. At that point, my account was actually in credit. Every time I contacted Latitude, I was told to wait longer before the account could be closed. I then received an email advising me to call… Read more

and arrange a refund of the surplus funds on my account. However, when I called, I was suddenly told there was no credit available because fees and interest charges had been applied. This makes no sense given the account had been fully paid off for weeks, and the email I received clearly indicated there was still a surplus balance.

The information provided has been inconsistent and contradictory throughout the entire process. One day I’m told there is a credit balance and a refund is available, then on the same day I’m told there is nothing owing to me. Meanwhile, my simple request to close an account has dragged on unnecessarily.

Customers deserve transparency, accurate information, and prompt account closures when balances have been paid in full. Unfortunately, my experience with Latitude Finance has been the complete opposite. I would not recommend them based on the lack of accountability, poor communication, and the apparent dishonesty surrounding the handling of my account and credit balance. If you’re having the same problem with them lodge a complaint to the Australian Financial Complaint Authority (AFCA).

Wow wow wow, This company is absolutely disgusting. I have had issues with them, their excessive fees, and their customer service team. I requested a very short term financial hardship, and it was rejected. … Read more

I was stunned. You are dealing with a call centre environment, with "reply above the line" communication, and throw in the email slow robotic responses. One one person has addressed my issues. Unhelpful, disgraceful and greedy organisation.

In my personal opinion these are the worst financial company in Australia. Seek any other alternative to this company. Extremely high fees, sneaky and dishonest and if you have a problem, good luck getting hold of them.

If I could give this bank card zero stars, I would. RUDE DON'T waste your time with this bank card. I called customer service twice, and both times the service was very poor. I ended up canceling this credit card. They need to train they customer service.

I strongly advise against doing business with this company. Their $10 monthly card fee is questionable enough, but their payment processes feel deliberately designed to penalize customers. When one of my scheduled payments failed due to insufficient funds, I promptly transferred money, reasonably expecting the system to retry the payment. It did… Read more

not. I then attempted to make a manual payment through the app, only to be repeatedly met with a vague “cannot process” error. Assuming it was a temporary technical issue, I tried several times without success and, due to other commitments, was unable to follow up immediately. The next notification I received was a $45 dishonour fee. Upon contacting customer service, I was informed—without apology—that after a failed payment, the app is effectively locked, preventing any manual payment attempts. This critical detail is nowhere clearly communicated, leaving customers set up to fail and incur avoidable penalties. This is not just poor design; it is an exploitative system that benefits from a lack of transparency. I would not trust a company that operates in this manner.

It's the worst financial company I've come across. They blame me for clicking on a link to transmit my account details to a hacker. Worse company I have ever dealt with. When you need to close your account they make it extremely difficult. Even after I closed they don’t take it out from my credit report. Once under GE finance it was not bad. Under Lattitude it’s so bad. Even you don’t use the card , you must pay for service fees. The way they calculate your payment is very cunning.

Predatory lending behaviour. Was with this company for a few years. Needed a replacement washing machine and the retailer was able to arrange a plan for it. Paid it off, then made a few more necessary purchases over the next two years as Latitude has arrangements with many electrical and electronic retailers. Took a long time to pay them off… Read more

because Latitude, unlike most other lendors, treats your monthly balance, including a $10.95 monthly "service fee", as a seperate balance. If you've not paid your monthly balance, you cant pay plan installments.

And to boot, Latitude doesn't allow debit card transfers either. Your two online options are slow bank transfer or slow bpay. If your account is in arrears, you might only be allowed bpay. So by the time the money clears and things update on Latitude's end, it can take up to 7 business days. Longer if there's public holidays. The whole system is set up to keep you, the customer, on their credit hamster wheel.

My advice would be to avoid them. If you have to have credit, look at something like Zip Pay or Zip Money.

Would give 0 stars if possible. This company is so dishonest and are litteraly breaking the law in Australia. said I would like to close the account and 3 separate people told me I could not close the account without a face scan. Once I pushed back and said that they are not allowed to do that, they eventually closed the account. It was a lot of frustration and time wasted. During the process they contradicted them selves multiple times, were rude and unhelpful. They refused to disclose to me what the suspicion of fraudulent activity was, what they were going to do with my biometric data, who would have access to it, how and where it would be stored and for how long. They refused to send me an email with anything in writing saying they can not send any emails until I submit my biometrics. Yet they were constantly email me about my account and eventually emailed me confirming the closure. They even tried mocking and shaming me into doing the face scan on my phone acting like it was not a big deal, they mis-represented the procedure and were only focused on getting me to do the scan. They are clearly not trustworthy DO NOT send them your valuable biometric data!
