Leo Power Battery box - cheaper for a reason. Lacks interior anchor points – I purchased this Leo Power Battery box from ebay. It looks similar to other main name branded battery boxes only about $50 cheaper. The key features of these style of boxes are the inbuilt 50 and 175 amp anderson style plugs on the side. Main switch and LED voltmeter. Also has a number overload circuit breakers and a fuse tucked up inside the lid for the various output options.7 I have a H*** ***r version of this box already - as a quality comparison. For the most part, the box is very closely similar to the other main name branded one I have. My biggest concern with the Leo Power version of this box is the absence of secure restraining anchors within the box. There is a strengthened section on one side of the bottom of the box which could be used for an anchor point with a suitable additional clip. The other side has no additional strengthened point which the other main name branded ones have. The Leo Power box comes with a strap and two plastic clips. The strap would be suitable for internal securing but the plastic clips, I doubt, would be suitable and are not readily useable even on the reinforced side as mounting holes do not line up. I forwarded my concern of lack of internal anchor points to Leo Power Aust. (Leo Group Australia)Their representatives reply was - "Good morning, There are not for battery fastening. Its battery box external belt accessories to keep lid close. Battery has to be keep freely as upright position in the box. Thanks" My response to this statement is that this is unsafe advice because of the following. It is not advisable to have the battery loose inside the box as any movement, even in the upright position, during transport may allow the battery to damage the internals of the box and, in a potential worse case scenario, result in shorting and a fire. This could be catastrophic if it occurred whilst you are in a remote location.
In this case I jave opted to keep the box rather than return it. I have modified the box to provide secure anchor points and will be inserting foam blocks in addition. Photos show metal plate and clips I have added for internal securing. It is correct that the box should be adequately secured when transporting. Ultimately this box is cheaper for a reason. For comparison, with my other box, the strap and METAL clips were for internal securing of the battery.
