Product Name/Model: Luma Pet Red Light Mat Date of Purchase/Duration of Use: 13 December 2025 Price Paid: 2 Luma Pet Red Light Mat x $119 each ($238 AUD) I purchased two Luma Pet mats specifically for the advertised near-infrared wavelength of 940nm, a critical requirement for treating a specific medical condition (joint fissures). Upon receipt, the included technical manual and hardware specifications explicitly listed the device as 850nm.
On 28 December 2025, I formally notified the company of this discrepancy. I requested a spectrometer report or LED specification sheet to verify the hardware; however, the company failed to provide any technical verification. As of 18 March 2026, the company continues to advertise the 940nm specification despite being alerted to the error. It's been over 3 months now and I have now dealt with the uncollected items.
Australian Consumer Law (ACL) Compliance: As this product was significantly different from the description and would not have been purchased had the true specifications been known, this constitutes a "Major Failure" under the Australian Consumer Law (ACCC - Repair, Replace, Refund).
Despite the ACL applying to overseas businesses targeting the Australian market, the company refused to adhere to the following: •Return Shipping: They mandated that I pay for international shipping to California, despite the law stating the business is responsible for return costs when a product fails to match its description. •Refund Policy: They insisted on a 15% "restocking fee" for an incorrectly described item. •Resolution: After three months of correspondence and a credit card dispute, the company has refused to provide a prepaid return label or a full refund.
The item received is a standard 850nm mat that does not meet the technical specifications advertised. The company's refusal to acknowledge Australian consumer guarantees regarding return shipping and full refunds for "Major Failures" makes this a high-risk purchase for Australian consumers. To compare – I also purchased this very item, as demonstrated by the third mat in the photos, from AliExpress. The same item was less than half the price. You can find them via photos within their site.
Follow-up · I was asked to respond to “Top follow-up questions readers have asked about your review:”. I’m providing this additional detail to help other Australian consumers navigate the return and quality issues I encountered with Luma. 1. How easy was the return process? Short answer: It wasn’t. Luma initially refused a full refund and imposed costs for the return. Here is how I handled it: • The Conflict: I received a product that did not match the advertised specs (850nm instead of 940nm). Luma requiredI pay for return shipping to California (from Australia) plus a 15% restocking fee. • The Resolution: I cited ACCC Consumer Guarantees, which state that if a product is significantly different from the description, the business, not the customer, is responsible for return costs. • The Outcome: Luma still declined, so I lodged a bank dispute. My bank successfully refunded my money. I provided the proof and was approved. 2. How clear were the user instructions? Very clear. The manual was so detailed it actually proved the product was not what was advertised on their website. It confirmed the specs were incorrect, which ironically helped me track down the exact same item on AliExpress for a fraction of the price. 3. Did the product quality match your expectations? No. The product is visually different from the advertisements and fails to reach the 940nm wavelength promised. In ACCC terms, this is a "Major Failure." I would not have purchased it had the true specs been disclosed. For those looking for this specific item, I found the identical product (matching Luma’s own feedback photos) available directly through AliExpress. Link to same product on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009928618939.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.2.5bbff19caU0Awe (this is the product for much cheaper price than the $119 each I paid). Here are a few ACCC links for those interested. https://www.google.com/search?q=https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-service-you-bought/repair-replace-refund-cancel%23toc-major-problems-with-a-product https://www.consumerprotection.wa.gov.au/returns-refunds-repairs-and-replacements Goods must match the description... online or in a catalogue." Since they sold you 940 nm and sent 850 nm, they have breached this guarantee. A problem is major if "the product is significantly different from the description" or "would not have been bought if the consumer had known about the problem." In a major failure, you (the consumer) get to choose the refund, not the business. The business must reimburse the consumer for any reasonable return costs they have already paid." They cannot charge you a restocking fee or make you pay for international shipping to California for their mistake.
