there are no wires / transformers / timers involved - the sun charges it during the day and when it is dark enough they turn themselves on. How much simpler can it be?

At only 8 metres these are rather short for a rope light, and they are also quite a bit dimmer than their mains powered relatives. Both of these problems are because they are solar powered and not mains powered, but I think it is an acceptable trade-off for the improvement in speed and convenience of installing them. They have all of the different modes, and they just work.

If you want brighter / longer / fancier then go for the mains powered versions, but if you hate the idea of being on the roof in Summer in Central Queensland then stick with the solar powered LED's.
