Makita DUC400 18Vx2 Brushless Chainsaw

It is ok but some very annoying design choices First design flaw is when you turn it on the saw switches itself off after about 3 seconds. This is a programmed choice by makita but it means you are continually turning it on Second is the chainspeed is good but the saw bogs down and stops in hardwood. It is tedious to use in hard timber

So far so good – Only just started using it but so far so good, chain stays in tact, easy to tighten, easily cuts medium size branches.
Perfect for the Job – The chainsaw is battery operated so it is easy to start. It works like a normal chainsaw but it’s lighter and less noisy. I have cut branches up to 250mm with ease. Would highly recommend.

Control board failed twice after little use – I bought this chainsaw in mid-August 2021. Used it for 30 minutes (length of draining 2 x 5Ah batteries), then put it away for a couple of months, then it would not start again. Would not start using a second set of batteries. Only cut light branches up to 75mm diameter. Sent to Makita who reported that the control board had failed and replaced it under warranty.
Now November 2022 to do similar work but it seemed to not want to easily start each time applying the trigger. It stopped working again but this time the batteries were still half charged. Would not start using a second set of batteries. I am guessing the control board has failed again.
December 2022 I returned it back to Makita for repair, or at least a quote to repair, and they advised that I was using a chain only suited to a petrol chainsaw. I claimed that the store I purchased the replacement chain from made that decision despite advising them that it was for this chainsaw. Makita gave me the benefit of the doubt and replaced the control board once again for free, and packaged and marked the chain unsuitable. I quickly purchased two suitable chains from the retailer where I purchased the chainsaw. So far it is still working.
I did ask Makita why it fail the first time when I was using the correct chain and they only stated that they gave me the benefit of the doubt that it may have been a fault of the control board. Hmmm....
