Having the same issue, were you able to resolve?

I'm in the market for a hedge trimmer, I have the 36v power head line trimmer and pole saw so an obvious choice would be to get the hedge trimmer attachment.....but.....the blade is quite short in comparison to the other hedge trimmer skins available. My question is does the power of 36v mean that it still exceeds the 18v with much longer blade? Also, most of my hedges currently don't require the pole aspect, is it easy enough to use the powerhead hedge trimmer on smaller hedges? Cheers in advance.

Hi DDD, I don't understand your first question. To answer your 2nd question, the hedge trimmer attachment is heavy and therefore would be a pain to use for a hedge you can do with a smaller unit. I've only used it on a 4m tall pittosporum hedge; it's useful for that, but depending on how long you spend doing it, you can get muscle fatigue.

thank you. Ultimately I'm trying to decide whether to go an 18v hedge trimmer skin or the powerhead hedge trimmer attachment?

Unless you have tall or inaccessible hedges, I'd just buy the DUH523Z (which I did) as it's convenient and easily manoeuvred. It's not that much more expensive than the attachment. I rarely use the pole hedge trimmer.

Can i use a metal blade on this line trimmer? If yes, what one please?

Hi Sharnee, Yes, I use a MAKITA 230mm 4T Brushcutter Star Blade. I bought it from Total tools for about $20 and it works really well, even on the lowest speed setting.

I love the gear except that the thermal cut out operates quite prematurely in my estimation, and wondered if it might be faulty. Even on a mild day and low power setting, it will still cut out after a relatively short time of use.

I only found the cutout an issue with the chainsaw attachment when I was leaning into the saw so it 'stalled' via overloading. Never an issue with any other attachment and a revised methodology of 'letting the tool do the work' has resulted in no overloads with the pole saw. Cheers

I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong but the line trimmer head has spun off on me during a quick test run. Am I just not tightening it enough or am I missing something? I took the nut and plastic piece off as well as the metal washer and then spun the head straight on. worked very well till it fell off haha

yes, just needs a fair amount of tightening. Use the allen key in the hole to stop it spinning and turn anti-clockwise as hand tight as you can. I fell for the same rookie error when trimmer was new, so not to worry!

anyone have a problem with the multi function stopping with 3 lights flashing indicating it's overheating but only after 5 or so minutes use ?

Sure, only happens when you overload the motor. Just learn to back off a little and let the tool do the work (don't force it). Happened to me with the chainsaw attachment when I first used it, but soon developed good technique. Cheers
