Purchased a 2015 GJ Series 2 Touring Wagon. So far car has been hassle free. There is a couple of issues that need rectifying which are well documented on Mazda forums. My speakers distort if the volume is high and this is due to a factory problem with the amplifier which is apparently not expensive to rectify. The other problem is the infotainment… Read more
screen is delaminating which once again is a manufacturing issue. It is great to drive very economical for a 2.5 litre petrol and the transmission works well. For $15000 with 125000ks on the clock it is better value and better equipped than any suv you can buy for that price.
Diesel Motor Warning – I purchased a Mazda 6 , GJ Atenza 2.2 litre Diesel Wagon in February 2023 with 142,000klms on the car , Mazda Service History. Within weeks the iloop warning light came on , I took it to my regular mechanic who cleared and reset the computer code as it had a back log of issues. Within weeks of that the car overheated and I returned it to my… Read more
mechanic and he diagnosed a blown head gasket. A $10,000 - $15,000 fix for a replacement engine. I have lost a significant amount of money on this car. The more I investigated, the more I was informed of issues with this 2.2 litre diesel motor , Mazda no longer use this diesel engine as an option , not hard to work out why. I’m writing this review as a warning to any potential future purchasers of a Mazda with this 2.2litre motor , UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES BUY ONE.
Fuel pump failure after 110000 km on my 2015 mazda 6 – Fuel pump failed after 110000 km on my 2015 mazda 6. Bought new, fully serviced with mazda. Metal fragments found throughout fuel system. Surely this is another model that mazda needs to do a recall on the fuel pump. If mazda does not come to the party and accept some responsibility through Mazdacare, the current quote to repair is over $7000! So far, no go. Show details

Mazda 6 Sport Wagon 2013 petrol 2.5ltr Skyactiv – Negatives: Have owned this vehicle for over a year now & I still struggle to get comfortable in it. Roof line is way too low iam 6ft tall and bump my head on terrible angle from A pillars to front doors entry & exit, & front seats don't adjust low enough for us taller Australians. Rear seat entry and exit is better. Too many buttons to adjust the… Read more
cruise control, risking your eyes on the road, a toggle stick would be better. Annoying istop system I always forget to disengage, with starter motor already replaced under warranty & battery replaced under warranty. Has a tendency to use engine oil between services, only done 140k kms. Harsh ride but handles well, together with road noise that is always heard. Sound of motor lacks character even with the dual exhaust it sounds hollow. Positives: excellent fuel economy 7.9 ltrs/100kms around town, 6.7 ltr/100kms freeway driving. 6 spd auto gearbox with manual sport mode & steering paddles is excellent. Aircon with econo mode is cold & excellent. Reverse camera & sensors are very handy with the lack of visibility through the low roof line. Brakes are excellent & so is the turning circle.
Competence, reliable and drives well – Bought the Mazda 6 wagon Sport, with 140k's on the clock, in March 2018, replacing a very unreliable Mercedes. The things I like about this car. It drives well, very neutral handling, good brakes, very zippy, slick transmission. All functions are intuitive, the cruise control is easy, lights and wipers are where they should be, the air cons easy… Read more
to use, and reasonably quiet. The stereos good, and connects well to all devices, even ancient Ipods. The sat/nav is a TomTom unit and as such is very user friendly. The rear seats fold down very easily, and the area is very useful. Lots of storage compartments, great little area for putting your keys, in the centre consul. Reasonable frugal, running the petrol 2.5 litre version. Get roughly 8 litres to the 100klms, a round town, that's Melbourne city driving. A bit better in the country. Decent rear seat accommodation. The inside is well finished, and durable. Have heard some criticism, about the reversing camera, I've found it works fine.
The things I don't like! It's not built for large or tall people, I'm 5.8 and it's ideal for me, if your over 6 you will struggle getting in and out. Space saving spare tyre, rated to 80kph. Under the rear deck looks like there's enough room for a full sized, that would be a plus. The stop start function, can be annoying.
Other things to add, original battery died at 7 years, the shockers went at 175k.
Great car, just a few niggles away from being perfect – My first real modern car. Bought it second hand with 50,000ks. Used to commute to work, family trips, main workhorse. Overall extremely impressed. Good points, chassis is taught and gives great driving poise when cornering, gearbox is seamless with 3 different gear change options, interior quality is excellent, fuel efficiency excellent due to a… Read more
lot of little things, low weight, low profile, stop-start, capacitor that charges on braking. Things they could improve, not much, I did have to pull the doors apart and fix the Bose speakers, there was faulty(cheap) paint applied in the Mexican Bose factory so the noise was awful. Once I fixed, great. I’ve also had a problem where sometimes I lose drive for 2-3s and the car coasts along. I’ve worked out to change down gears and it jerks it out of it. The boot is small in the wagon but it’s managed to satisfy our needs, just make sure you see it first, still bigger lengthways than a CX-5. Sounds a bit like a tractor when you start it up but settles into a very subdued sound. Would be nice for a bit more aural engagement. The engine is adequate nothing more but you can use the flappy paddles to shift down to hurry it along if you want. Suspension for me is a tad floaty but just by a small margin, you can see they’ve softened it for the cosseted, adult driver rather than the spirited corner lover. I would by one again in a heartbeat, so reliable. I’ve put 100,000ks on no problem. If I had the money I’d go for the newer turbo engine. For now I’ll just keep this great car.

An open & honest appraisal of my Mazda 6 – I am retired & use this car as my daily driver as personal transport mainly for myself & my wife, occasionally including other family members. I have it serviced every 12 months even travelling less than 7000ks a year. I have never had any problems with it. Show details
Perfect family wagon – We have owned a Mazda6 wagon now for almost 18 months & it has been bullet-proof! A trip from Sydney to Melbourne & across Mt Gambier in South Australia, the comfort for passengers, the great driving experience for the driver & the load carrying capacity. Also the costs of running are another great incentive.
Great driving experance – We love our car as it handles very well on the road and even better in raining conditions. The widow wipers get a little sicky and then when having to use them sometimes scrape but replacing those fixed that issue and we replaced the rims as the stock look rubbish. But the car drives very well Show details

OK but some disappointments – Mazda6 GT Wagon first registered in January 2016 Good points: Reliable Economical Practical Bad points Noise suppression needs to be better for a car aimed towards the premium end of the sector Wet-weather traction with 225/45 R19 not brilliant Not a very sporty drive - whilst reasonable in the corners, passengers complained they were thrown… Read more
around too much. Skyactiv system can get caught out at times and lead to a delay in an acceleration response
Overall good – Overall it is a nice car, leather interior, auto wipers, auto headlights, personalised seat controls. Only issue is the Bluetooth, it is terrible. Got to do everything over a lengthy voice control and whilst playing music it constantly drops out. I listen to a lot of music over Bluetooth so very dissapointing. Show details

Great car with luxurious trim – Ive owned this car now for 6 months and its still an absolute pleasure to drive. Fuel economy is not the rated 6.6, im getting around 7.1 or 7.2 l / 100 km which is still good. Good Car with Skyactiv tech! – This car has good torque and fuel efficiency. Driving it is full of fun. Noise control is better than my previous Accord Euro, but comparing with Lexus, it still has a long way to go. Interior is quite beautiful. Legroom is fine for a sporty car. Never have any big issue with this car. Show details
Mazda 6 Sport Wagon - Tops! – This car is a great drive - hugs the road nicely, very tame at speed and refined handling. Easy on fuel, not so much on tyres if you don't rotate them regularly. Do that and you will reap the benefits in extending tyre wear. Lane departure, parking assist, kinetic recovery system all work well, and the steering wheel paddles to shift gears in… Read more
sports mode are fun, if not impractical at normal speeds. New Mazda paint formula means the duco will last - metallic red is a great colour!
Perfect middle class car – The Mazda 6 is a great car for any growing family, that occasionally goes for long road trips or zip around the city. Spacious front and back with standard large 7" in dash screen with GPS and Bluetooth audio. We have the Sport model, which comes with leather seats, climate control, fog lights, 17" alloys that gives the smoothest ride. We upgraded from the Mazda 3, and could tell the difference in ride comfort straight away. Show details
Better than a luxury car – I've driven a few luxury cars and while they may be impressive the current Mazda 6 definitely is on par. It has the latest technology, navigation and bluetooth is on point, the glass speedometer that goes up and down is fantastic. The car is very easy to drive and manoeuvre and very comfortable. Good legroom and nice interiors. The hand break… Read more
is a switch which takes a while to get used to but definitely no hindrance to the driving experience. The side mirrors automatically close as the car locks which also automatically locks as you leave the car. Exteriors also have a luxury appearance. Have been driving Honda for 15 years and changed to a new Honda every 3 years but the Mazda has definitely won me over.
Perfect, seriously there is nothing about it that I'd change – The visual dashboard is fricking awesome and has so many features: music, radio, sat-nav, bluetooth, etc. It also handles amazingly well for a tuner and its acceleration is great too. Oh, and the interior is super relaxing to be in; the leather seats aren't too coarse or soft and there are just enough compartments to fit whatever equipment or… Read more

very good value – 2013 touring model petrol wagon . Likes , upmarket interior and features , low servicing costs , excellent reliability . Dislikes , road ( tyre ) noise , holds on to higher gears for fuel economy. petrol engine lacks torque if fully loaded, you would need to try the diesel engine if that was your intended use. Nice car – Very good and reliable car . Easy to handle and low maintenance. Fuel economy is excellent . The drive is smooth and not tiring. Very nice car for touring – Engine has heaps of torque, excellent for long drives. Handles well but like most wagons the cornering isn't great. Road noise is good. Excellent all round – I've kept my eye on the Mazda 6 range ever since it was introduced in the early 2000s. Finally took the plunge in 2014 and love almost everything about it. The 'zoom-zoom' factor really holds true as it really is a lot of fun to drive, especially around windy roads. The steering wheel feels very responsive, yet safe at the same time. Not the… Read more
quietest of drives but good enough for me. Petrol usage is excellent and the flip-down rear seats is a life saver when I take my bicycles on the road with me. Although subjective, I love the exterior and interior design of the car. Everything feels very solid and made of good quality materials. The exterior design is still my favourite in the consumer car market to date.
My only complaints:
- Navigating the entertainment system is a pain due to bad UI design, especially when searching for MP3 music tracks on a USB device. A larger screen would also be nice.
- Regular .m3u playlists are not recognised. Windows media player playlists are, but again a pain to convert between these formats.
- GPS system is really slow/unresponsive
- Voice commands are fiddly so I rarely use them
- Bluetooth connection to my phones take a very long time before I can start playing music.
- I had a problem with 2 of my Android phones where the in-car phone/voice system would on occasion not work when I tried making a call from the phone, resulting in me having to switch to the phone's handsfree/speaker mode. Receiving calls however always worked fine.
- No easy way to tell whether the rain-sensing wiper mode is enabled. The mode dial/knob doesn't clearly show a line to indicate which mode is currently selected. Sometimes I thought I had the right mode selected, or accidentally changed it.
Most of the negatives are related to the entertainment unit. I believe they have replaced it with a new and improved unit in newer models. A pity the 2014 models were stuck with the problematic one.
Great car – Got a second hand Mazda 6 2014 for my first car. Very happy with it, drink very little fuel, look beautiful after polish, The new styling of the Mazda makes me wonder why would you ever buy other cars in its price range, interior still works looks fresh unlike some other cars, performance was bit lacking on higher rpm but that what you should expect and car is very quiet when driving. so happy to have it – recently downsized our car to the mazda 6 wagon and are so happy with it! its lovely to drive, has great technology, very comfortable and an overall great car, after searching for a car for several weeks I think we made the best decision to suit our family. couldn't be happier Show details
Pretty good – Bought a 2012 model 2nd hand with 130k on it. Really nice inside and pretty good entertainment system for it's age. Car looks much nicer than alternatives at a similar price. Auto is sluggish although I have always had manuals. Even the padels feel slow to respond. Has a bit of go when using the padels but doesn't set the world on fire. Happy with my purchase Show details
I can not recommend this car enough – To say I love this car is an understatement . I bought this car with a car allowance from work as I work in sales and am in my car 80% of the day . I have had many company cars over the years and this compares to any I've had . As I drive all day I need a car that is comfortable , safe and responsive . The Mazda is all of that . I can not recommend this car enough Show details
A quick summary of ownership – 1. Handling, smooth; understeer, disconnected from the road. 2. Performance, 2.2litre twin turbo diesel: smooth and perky, at times feels like a petrol, noisy. 3. Noise, lots of road and wind noise penetrating the cabin. 4. Easy to navigate dash unit, plenty of leg room, boot space is good in the X and Y dimension but falls short on the Z… Read more
dimension.
5. Reliability: 4 years so far, nil issues. Ask a mechanic, my individual report is not a big enough sample size.
6. Diesel true litres/100km is about 6.9 with the air conditioning cranked up with 50% high way and 50% town driving.
Great car but lacks a lot of power – Recently purchased a 2017 Mazda 6 Atenza, which is the top of the line model with beautiful shadow chrome wheels. With DAB Radio, GPS & Active Cruise Control along with comfortable Nappa Leather seats it seemed like the perfect family car for a family with… Read more
2 tall adult boys.
However, upon receiving the car and having driven it for just under 3 months, I'd have to say it is fairly mediocre. The 2.5L engine in the car starts to rev incessantly while attempting to climb steep hills. There isn't as much overtaking power as any of the previous cars we have owned in a similar fashion (previous car was a 2012 Mercedes C250 for reference)
But the worst and most painful problem would have to be the GPS system. There are some mornings where it'll just never load.. like absolutely never load. When it does load, the touchscreen on it is horrendous irregardless of whether I'm pressing the screen hard or soft. I think the GPS system would be this cars biggest downfall.
Excellent car inside and outside – My 2nd Mazda. Had a Mazda 3 for 8 years with no problems. Had a 2013 Mazda 6 GT wagon since February and delighted with it so far. Design is as good as any in its class. Build quality inside and outside is excellent. The GT are shod with 225 45 R19 which are quite pricey. Had to replace at 50,000km. the two memory seat adjustments work very well for us.
Bose sound system is really nice and the Bluetooth function works well too.

September 12th 2017 Update: Very nice hi spec car
I have the GT model. Only minor disappointment is the 19 wheels, which pick up every bump in the road and the tyres are very expensive being a non- standard size.
Handling is superb. I am not an agressive driver, and the road holding is 1st class.
Dashboard layout too is is excellent. Very clear instrumentation. Leather seats are very comfortable with good support.
Legroom is pretty good.Only very tall passengers might be a bit squeezed.
I am very happy with this car overall
very good car – The car is VERY quiet. Handles very good, although it has 17inch wheels. Plenty of power when needed and going along the hwy uses about 5 litres of fuel per 100kms. Like the auto wipers, lights and mirror. The lights follow the direction of the steering wheel. Bad things: very expensive to change the oil. The 10 liter container will cost around $140. The radio has no volume that adjust to speed of the vehicle. Show details
No problems so far – So far so good. Haven't had any major problems as I do an enormous amount of driving. A couple of other cars I have owned haven't been able to keep up the pace but this little beauty seems to handle well, which in my line of work is always a blessing. thanks mazda :) Show details
Love hate relationship – Purchased this car second hand, and it did everything i wanted it to. It just didn't do anything well. the front door subwoofers needed replacing, fuel average was higher than it said it was, even driving like a grandma, but still much better than petrol equivalent. Road noise is my main complaint though and i don't understand when people say interior room is huge..its tiny!

2016 Mazda 6 Touring - Not a bad car but – I traded my 2001 Millenia (Eunos 800) for this then the Mazda 6. Not a bad car - it's the same size as the Millenia so no complaints about room etc. The ride is not quite as luxurious but I'm getting used to it. My one and only real complaint is the infotainment/GPS system. 1. The system can and will reboot at any given moment. This of… Read more
course can be rather annoying if your using the GPS.
2. Music will not resume playing after ending a phone call.
3. The GPS will attempt to announce a direction and fade the music to the left side of the car. However, the GPS audio doesn't always function so this too can be rather annoying.
4. No real time traffic updates when the GPS does work.
5 The mapping is also something to behold but I'll save that for another day.
To summarise, the MZD Connect / GPS system is not fit for purpose and had I known this last year I would not have purchased the vehicle.
Mazda has informed me that an update is in the wind and that's about the strength of it.
Zoom bloody Zoom.
