In December, 2025, I realised that McAfee were charging me twice from the same product. I had selected an automatic renewal and received 2 accounts for the same product for renewal. After checking my accounts I realised my error and contacted McAfee seeking a refund of one of these policies. I was advised that refunds were not usually given… Read more
after 1 month however my request would be investigated and I would be advised of the result within 5 business days. On the 8th March, over 3 months from initially contacting them I received an email advising my case number and a satisfaction survey. I had no other contact with them during this time. I do not expect a refund as I consider that this was partially my fault for not checking my accounts prior. The service that I have received from McAffe is pathetic and recommend that anyone should think twice in dealing with this company.
Appalling customer support. Called to get a receipt with an ABN as it is a legal requirement in Australia for tax time. The woman had no idea what an ABN was, put me on hold multiple times, then when I asked to me put through to someone else she said I had to call back and hung up on me and closed my case number. So, I still have no appropriate receipt to claim at tax time.
I cancelled my subscription mid way thru and went with Guardio who offer and give so much more. I completed a refund form three times before they found it. $180 was finally agreed upon in June last year. 13 long phone calls later I have been told it… Read more
was refunded to PayPal, then to my bank, then a cheque!! I have been online for two hours and been cut off once and then a new agent wanting to start over. Now it is for the fifth (at least) been escalated higher. What a disgrace!! Buyers beware!
Follow-up · Guardio is fantastic. Cautions flash immediately, monthly reports etc. Macafee still has not contacted nor refunded the agreed to $180 due since June last year. They keep closing my claim and when I ring I have to spend min 30 minutes explaining myself and being told it is closed and payment sent by varying avenues. Disgraceful!

Another Honest 1 Star Review of McAfee Fraudulent – I was today notified of an automatic payment of $204.95 which is being processed. I have logged on to the account and found the "subscription" which has conveniently automatically set up the auto annual repayment without knowledge or consent. I have called your call centre and conveniently McAfee cannot find my account despite it being on your… Read more
system for 12 months, and told to call back another time but yes, I can cancel within 30 days of the auto-renewal.
But again, I simply just can't be found on McAfee's system though to cancel and to just call back another time and go through the wait time.
Not only is there an extreme lack of consent, McAfee also sets up the account for auto renewal, charges an exorbitant amount, then won't let the user cancel the account online but rather the user must call and even then, mysteriously McAfee simply cannot find the user's account to process the refund.
Let's also add, they hire people that deliberately cannot read your email account correctly and if by some miracle, they do find my account and process the refund, I am sure I will experience a delay or issue with the processing, I am sure of it.
This is a very well-operated fraudulent automatic system that requires government intervention immediately.
UPDATE: I later got through to a lovely call centre staff member, and credit where credit is due, he was very helpful and processed the full refund, I will of course wait for the funds to be returned but will improve my rating from 1 to 3 on account of the nicer staff member based in the Philipines (compared to the first one based in India).
Plus the product is not a bad one, they just need to alter their commercial operations.
Misleading information about included features – I purchased a McAfee Antivirus plus subscription and their website clearly states that a "password manager" (Being True Key) is included in this subscription, however the customer service person in the live chat said "sorry it is no longer bundled". I insisted that I should get what I pay for, but he was only interested in selling me the more… Read more
expensive subscription that does apparently include the password manager.
Not recommended and I am awaiting a refund.

received the following error message “Something not right. It’s not you, its us. Please try again later.” I have been given ten (10) different case numbers, seven (7) of which were still open as of 21.09.25. On nine (9) occasions I was advised that my case would be referred to the Tier Two Engineers and that I would receive a phone call from Tier Two regarding my problem with 24 to 72 hours. I have never received the promised calls or spoken to anyone from Tier Two. I have also been promised a call back by named supervisors within one hour but never did receive the promised call. I have also been given the email addresses below as the correct address to lodge a written complaint but on the three (3) occasions when I used the addresses supplied I received a message that “The following recipient(s) cannot be reached”. “DL Tier III Support Consumer: _175905@McAfee.com”, on two occasions and "customerservice@mcafee.com", on one occasion I have also been given a lot of other conflicting information. After waiting six (6) months for the problem to be resolved I have given up in sheer frustration and cancelled my subscription. I must admit however that when I requested a full refund it was approved.
Follow-up · My experience with McAfee has deteriorated further since my original review on 25.09.25. At 2.20 am on 15.10.25, I received a phone call from an unknown number (00111866223911) waking me from a sound sleep. As I did not recognise the number and thought it was a scam I did not answer the call. Needless to say the caller did not leave any message… Read more

ended up cutting my losses and uninstalling mcaffee.
My advice - avoid Mcafee and Norton and look elsewhere.
Follow-up · Since uninstalling Mcafee I haven't looked back. I've been able to access al of my email accounts, facebook etc with no issues at all. I still haven't found an alternative that doesn't keep locking you out of your emails.

regretting the decision.
Despite having high-performance systems (AMD Ryzen 9 and Intel i9), I experienced noticeable performance degradation soon after installation. Even with regular software updates, these issues persisted and made basic tasks more frustrating than they should be.
The VPN, which was a major selling point for me, turned out to be even more disappointing. Speeds were consistently slow, and frequent dropouts made it practically unusable. It left me questioning not only the value of the VPN but also the overall effectiveness of McAfee’s protection suite.
In the end, McAfee simply didn’t meet my expectations in terms of performance or reliability. I won’t be returning—and I’ll be going back to Norton, where my experience has been far more stable.
Follow-up · Did you try adjusting any settings to improve the VPN speed and stability? Yes. I attempted to troubleshoot McAfee’s VPN by adjusting the limited settings offered—changing server locations, enabling/disabling split tunnelling, and ensuring the auto-disconnect (kill switch) feature was on. However, McAfee’s VPN is very basic and lacks advanced… Read more

Up to very recently, I had a very favourable opinion of McAfee; they were providing service for a reasonable sum. Disgraceful! I received an email notification from my bank last night. McAfee took out an "Auto Renewal" payment of $249.87 AUD without my authorisation!!! and helpful, but however McAfee, it is a disgrace to just help yourself to deduct money from my account for an "Auto Renewal" that I did not authorise!! I am going to wait until the refund hits my bank account then I am deleting my McAfee account and going to join Norton!! According to a source, Norton is rated #1 Antivirus in 2025! It's not the only pathetic thing, I now cannot turn on schedual scans, I used to be able to unless I log into their system. My PC should have all my subscription info in it.
Please fix this. Must have bean counters running the company now. Certainl;y not Principled Engineers.
Was just notified my auto renew charge is now nearly $400 a year, what a scam. I never turned this on. Spent nearly an hour trying to find the auto renew button to turn it OFF. Signed up with another more reputable provider for under $200 for 2 year subscription, no auto renew.

Installed McAfee Premium - Individual on my laptop. Constant popups wanting me to upgrade my subscription that you cannot disable. Not a good way to make more money McAfee by annoying your current customers. Taking my business elsewhere as I don't need unwanted popups ruining my time on my laptop. Do yourself a favour and don't bother with this company.
We bought a basic paid subscription. It slowed the laptop down, popped up every two minutes for feedback, and send a notification to upgrade or renew every ten minutes of computer use. Nearly all of its features only worked if you bought an even more expensive package as well. When the paid period ended and was not renewed, it even more significantly slowed down the computed until we removed from the laptop and the internet widget.
My only real complaint about McAfee is that it has been sending me "Final Notices" for several months non-stop . I'm now using Norton, so I don't need or want McAfee, but the bloody notices keep coming several times a week! I wish they would take the hint and just go away. After this annoying experience I would never use McAfee again.
Follow-up · The emails appear to have stopped now; I haven't had any for several weeks. I sent McAfee an email months ago but that had no effect. They've stopped since I put my review here. I switched because already had Norton on another computer and decided to go with Norton, not because I was unhappy with McAfee, but just because I preferred what Norton offered.

I dont know if it's doing the other things it should be doing correctly, but I will be changing for the simple fact that it continuously changes my home browser to yahoo instead of leaving it as google.
each year I have spent more and more on upgrade and every time I use it it tries to get me to upgrade will esnure4 no way I will renew again and buyt a bette3r product next time
McAfee IS the virus. Don't use it. 1. It will force you to use Yahoo, you can switch it back to your actual preference every 5 minutes, but as soon as you open your browser again, its -surprise- yahoo (who tf uses Yahoo, seriously guys wake up). 2. The application never works - permanent 'your offline'. 3. Turn VPN on, check back in later only to… Read more
find its off. I assumed I turned it off and just forgot but when it happened EVERY TIME I have checked since and its-OMG another surprise-off again. McAfee is LITERALLY THE VIRUS.
I've just uninstalled McAfee malware for the third time. I have not deliberately installed McAfee since I was using a 386. I don't know how it keeps sneaking in but I've added to the list of threats for my real security software. If anyone form McAfee is reading, installing without permission is seriously impacting your reputation. CUT IT OUT.
Got yearly subscription with McAfee to keep scammers at bay.Payment was automatically taken out of my Paypal account yearly. Found out they took a sizeable unauthorized payment out of my PayPal account.Rang them up and they said it wasnt on their billing....so apparently a company that is supposed to keep your devices safe is infected with scammers itself. What an absolute disgrace

McAfee is malware designed to steal your credit card information and then bill you without any notification years after you have stopped using what they call services. Their call centre's only purpose is to deny you were ever a customer. Thankfully my credit card issuer agreed and cancelled their charges.
Do not want yahoo but gives me no other choice – It comes with Yahoo search engine, I have to keep changing it and deleteing it and it keeps coming back. Very frustrating, because I do not want Yahoo. Contacted them and the only way to "fix' it is to give them manual control over my whole computer..I think NOT! Also, receiving regular emails that my subs expiring. Very annoying. Once my subs expire I will not renew it ever again. I do hope I can delete it all together from my computer!!!
Bordering on illegal – Cannot remove from my computer. This virus (because that is what it is) is impossible to remove from my computer. Even McAfee help people could not remove it. Every time I use a search engine a large pop up appears. That I then have to click numerous times to make it disappear. DO NOT BUY McAfee
Infiltration of my whole system and daily hassle – paid for McAfee in DEC24. Keep getting pop ups all the time that my service has expired. Cannot get anything from them. Who is the Aussie dept responsible for this company being in business?
Fraud – I got it installed along with Adobe Reader but it won't let you remove from your machine. I have wasted over an hour waiting and waiting to be removed and then after research, I have to install a software to remove 'McAfee Security Scan Plus. Terrible and pathetic and they should be penalized for this mess product
Scam service – This program is dodgy. I was never able to use it, wrote to them with my concerns and they never responded. I decided to go back to Norton and then I get a $205 auto renewal taken out. They have not refunded.
It is is amazing, no issues with it – Like it very much. I have no issues with it, easy to install and use. I have had Norton before and had sooo many issues with it. It is just a breeze to use McAfee compared to Norton, I can't recommend it enough.
Never-ending virus warnings leading to renewing account – I keep receiving virus warnings from Macafee although Malware Bytes reports full screening and no virus. I tried installing Macafee then to be sure but my iMac OSv10.15.7 is no longer supported by Macafee so I cancelled the new account. Haven't seen the refund yet, but more to the point, I can't get Macafee to stop the virus warnings unless I open another account. Spent 2 hours on phone and chats but no help.
