I have a e250 2010 diesel coupe that has a sudden loss of power. It starts, runs but no get up and go. No warning lights on dash, no obvious vacuum hoses off, just don't go probably. Any ideas please?
My 2010 e250 diesel coupe has suddenly lost power, it starts, runs but has no get up and go. No dash engine light showing, haven't found any vacuum hoses off.
Greetings, I have a 2014 E250Cdi Avangarde model. I do Uber Black and at times when carrying 3 passengers on the rear seats,it sounds like the car is scraping on the ground. Please advise what should I do to increase the ride height. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Clarence Prince (Cape Town)
Hi I am considering a 2010 mercedes e250 cdi avantgarde with 44k on the clock - just concerned about the maintenance costs; I drive ~800km per week highway speeds. Can you give me any advice please on the running costs for this car? thanks
44k is pretty good for a 10 year old car. Service once per year or 20k is quite good. I pay in Melbourne $600 /service. Major expense is 80k when brake pads and discs (yes, soft discs) must be replaced, $1,500. Diesel consumption incredible good, 5-6l/100k. Batteries good, I'm still running the original batteries.
The only major problem is the tyres. Rear tyres are wider and you cannot rotate tyres with the front. What's disappointing, the rear tyres get worn incredible fast (Rear traction, high torque). I purchased vey good brand called Continental, it last only 10k ! yes, 10k. The original Pirelli will take you 25k max. These tyres cost $400 each. So far the brand that lasts longer is Nexus, with price over $400. Front tyres survive twice the distance. Note that I don't do burnouts or any childish stuff.
Yes 44k is low km’s, some would argue too low, does the service book show a consistent annual mileage, or has it sat around for a long time with no mileage recorded. My wagon has standard 17 inch wheel, fronts and rears are identical, thus rotation is not a problem, thus around 30km’s from a set, Hankook tires, roughly $220 each. Brakes quite expensive, though you should get 50km’s from a set.
thanks for the responses - dilemma solved as it has been sold!
Is it expensive maintenance cost if buying the car at around 100 000 kms?
Sorry - can't help with this answer, as I purchase new and don't keep for that amount of mileage.
2013 build now done 170,000. 18 x 8 tyres all around. I use a MB “specialist” for major repairs at about half or less dealer charge. MB Australia very poor with claims.
My E400 Mercedes AMG Sedan purchased new December 2015 has required tyres to be replaced three times. It rides rough due to type of tyres and now one particular tyre has to be replaced for the second time and the rim is damaged. This was caused no doubt by the rough way it rides. Can all the tyres and rims be replaced, so that the it rides more smoothly and doesn't cause so much damage. I had a BMW 7 series for many years prior to this and not one flat tyre in all that time. It rode very smoothly over speed humps and any small potholes. Luxury car, not a luxury ride.
I suspect if you have the AMG package, you have the 19 inch wheels with the 35 tyres, which unfortunately will produce harsher ride. If you prefer a smoother ride, perhaps get a small wheels (17 or 18) with thicker tyrewall as they absorb bumps better. I had both 17 and 19 on the same car, and you do sacrifice ride qualify for looks, with the bigger wheels.
Thank you JW19 for responding. It is the AMG package. I am now informed by my Mercedes Service Manager that it is not possible to do this with this particular model.
I hope that you got independent advice. Obviously thinner tyres aren’t going to be as safe as extra wide tyres but what is the point if it is unusable. If you don’t drive it like an idiot 18” or 17” should be okay
hi i am looking at buying an E350 coupe 2009 with under 100,000 ks.i was wondering if this model has any mechanical issues that i need to look out for ?.. which is the better car the elegance or the avantgarde and why..your expert advice would very much appreciated , thanks.
Just bought a E350 coupe 2009 with under 100,000 ks from a private seller, it is well maintained and very classy, so far everything seems fine and it's quite a reliable machine. One dipped head light (xenon bulb) just gone a couple of days ago but it's not expensive to buy a after market bulb and you can also replace it yourself. There is no elegance version in coupe I believe.
Hi Robert I have a similar car and need to challenge some of your claims . First, good on you for buying interstate and not supporting your locals :-{
I read that Artico means "Artificial Cow".
I have 19s but think the ride is perfect; I agree it feels safe.
It is not Active Lane Keeping Assist that you set to 110, but the adaptive cruise control they call Distronic Plus. If cars are jumping in, just twist the lever to adjust.
The car is a 5 seater which is why they use a space saver spare - to have enough boot space for five. As for someone having to nurse the spare, maybe just take out some luggage instead?
Yes tyres are expensive - that's because your lives depend on them. As you say, safety comes at a cost.
As for the "crappy" GPS I have to dispute this - it works perfectly. You can adjust the settings to re-route if you miss a turn.
All up the E-class is the best sedan you can buy, even if it "could be better".
Would you seriously trust your life to tyres you bought on ebay?
Hi Mr Benz, it is a far different situation from selling a car to owning a car. The GPS is really crappy. It got us lost twice on our recent holidays but that is my fault for not taking the hand held Tom Tom. I asked your Dubbo dealer about updating the outdated map and I was quoted $700 plus for an update disc. I know that it is supplied by Tom Tom and I know it will be at least ten years out of date, as the updates on my handheld Tom Tom are often 10+ years out of date. I intend getting a "device" with Google Maps which is much better than Tom Tom, Garmin etc. You obviously have not driven far from the dealership/head office, or you would know that the wheels are totally unsuitable. I suspect that you may be the person who decided that "looks" were more important that "functionality" and made 19" wheels standard. The tyres are half the price from Tyresales than they are from your dealerships. Since I wrote my review, I had occasion to drive from Dubbo to Sydney, commencing in the dark when potholes are harder to see. I put a bulge in the FOS tyre and the ROS mag developed a crack which I only discovered because the tyre kept going down over a week or so. I now have five aftermarket 18" x 8" mag wheels and I do not need a lecture about my choice, I made it after a lot of research and consideration and I am the one paying. I believe the narrower tyre will partly overcome some of the premature wear on the inside of the rear tyres. I tried getting 17" or 18" mags from MB, the fact that they were four times after market was not the deciding factor, they just looked crappy - if I could have got the same design as the 19" wheels, I would have paid the premium. If you ask one of your technicians, a full size tyre will fit in the wheel well, and it only weighs a matter of several Kg. more, but no more 80 kph speed limit and replacement tyres are readily available. I have driven from Bourke to Noosa, to Dubbo and back to Bourke including some yowie country on the Great Dividing Range because of the GPS and no tyre problems. I also now carry a "plug" repair kit and an "inflation kit", so I am no longer stressed out about getting stuck in the middle of nowhere. I recommend that owners of these cars actually buy an Australian street directory and use the GPS as an aid. As the distributor of this car, you may well have a better knowledge of how it operates. A Youtube video would be great. I deliberately choose not to "tail gate", so decreasing the distance between vehicles is not an option.
I wanted to buy from my "local dealer", 380 km away but I got the distinct impression that they were not very interested perhaps because I was not wearing my suit, anyway, I would have been bad for business as I did not require finance. I have had my car serviced three times at the "local" dealer and servicing is where the big money is anyway. The last "A" service, last week was only $490, whereas my last oil change on my MN Triton at the same dealership was $590 - there is a good news story.
Just in case, a million to one chance, that you actually own an MD E250 CDI, rather than "having" one, you will have benefited greatly from my answer in that you can put a "real spare tyre" in the tyre well. For anyone considering buying one of these vehicles - I would buy another one tomorrow
Cheers Robert, your response is appreciated. To be clear I am not a dealer and my name is not Benz. I'm a regular consumer and I own a 2014 E400 sedan with Avantgarde package. We will have to agree to disagree on the SatNav performance and a few other aspects. There is so much to learn about these cars, I found the official MB channel on Youtube the most useful. Like you I would buy another one tomorrow.
