Meross Smart Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener MSG100

I decided to fit this to my B&D panel door because I lost count of the number of times I have left the door open at night . I am lucky I haven't been robbed again. This is a small unit and comes with all the bits and pieces including the open door sensor. The open door sensor caused me to break out in a sweat as I went over the door looking for somewhere to fit this thing no more than 25mm apart.
In the end, I found a gap on the front of my door near the track, and if you look at the photos you will see they are practically touching . The wired part I fixed to the wooden jamb with a screw and the other I just slid on and used the magnetic properties of the sensor to hold it to the door, so far it hasn't moved a micrometer.
The main unit went on top of my closer and I stuck it there with a bit of double sided tap supplied.
The USB with adapter just plugged into the power lead I already had the door hooked up to, just using a Y plug adapter to split the power.
The two wires , then went into the ports on the right in any order, and just a word about this.
If you buy this unit and then go to the Meross site for compatibilty you might be disappointed not finding your door listed, but never fear, it will most probably work, because this list is out of date.
When using the Meross app on my smartphone to set it up, this is where I found the more comprehensive list of doors. Sure enough, mine was listed there but not on the web site. On top of this the app also showed the exact controls I was looking at, along with the correct ports to hook into. You can do a little test here with a piece of wire .You just need to find two ports that make the door close .I fluked mine straight up so I knew the unit would work prior to purchase
In the App it shows the door greyed out when it is closed. When opening you get an animated blue picture of the door going up and then declaring it is open.
Two things here .
You should time your opening time and then go into the app and select the nearest timing in seconds.
If you leave it at the default you may get a warning that your door is unable to be tracked accurately. I ended up at 20 seconds and the door opening and closing signal works like a charm . Another neat feature of this is, that when the door closes you get an audible alarm, much like the reversing alarm on a forklift. I like this feature a lot and wondered why normal doors don't have this early warning . Anyway, the wifi operates all through my house , so sitting in bed at night wondering if I closed the door is solved.
All your door controllers will still work when this unit is hooked up . There is one problem however. If you use your normal controller to open or close the door the App can still see that door in the opposite position . I am lucky though as I have a security camera inside my garage pointing at the door, so when my wife arrives home in the evening, I can give a visual check that the door is either opened or closed. On top of that , the app can get confused after you close the door with the original controller, still thinking that it is still open and will ask you to reset the timer for the door, it will in fact also show the door is closed when it is open, so this requires you to press the App Icon to fool the door that you are opening the door, when in fact it is already open, then pressing again to close the door..
Another feature you might like is being able to set the door to close at a predetermined time , that way , even if you forget, it will close for you.
The unit operates with Alexa and Google Assistant but you will need the home kit for Apple products.
This unit offers tremendous value at the price and it's simplicity and features make it a must buy, although many will be turned off by the confusing operation .
Highly recommended .
