Got a microchip cat door. Red Light is always on. New batteries. No LCD display. Tried reset with no response, I.e. no lock and unlock. Still in last mode which is no lock to go out and chip needed to get in. Seems like no power to the unit. Cleaned terminals with sandpaper. Still no power. Any suggestions?

My chip cat door has been reset & new batteries but my cat just can't get back inside - its locked. Have now removed batteries & it's still locking from the outside. Appreciate some help.

Do I have to put batteries in the HUB..if so how?

I've had the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door since August. This evening I noticed it had a static red light. I've had it before where it flashes to indicate the batteries need changing. I went out and got new batteries but it's still static red. Has anyone had any issues like this? I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the cold as we've had a cold snap in the UK. It's a concern as I don't want my cat to go out and not be able to get back in during winter

My only suggestions would be as follows. 1: check the instructions as to what that red light means and if you dont have the instructions look for them on line as they're all there and 2: go back to square one and remove the batteries for a while and reset the unit from scratch, the good old turn it off and turn it back on again.

Hope that helps

Thanks Marg, miraculously I knew where the instruction booklet was, but it only mentions a flashing red light indicating low battery. I'll try the factory reset tomorrow (and then the fun of trying to lure the cat through it!)

Does it have a silent mode? Is there a way to quieten the operation mechanism? Please help! ......Karl.

Unfortunately not and they’re all extremely noisy. Scared the heck out of our cat initially so we had to get used to it with the flap held open and then slowly more and more closed until she finally overcame the fear. I pulled it apart and quietened it a little with felt pads but they didn’t totally silence it. If your a handyman it’s perhaps worth giving that a go !!

My pet door has just died. Changed the batteries twice and there is just no power to it at all. I've had it for 2 yrs and 10 months, should I be accessing the warranty? And how do I do this?

This is very typical for the product. If you get more than 2 years you’re lucky. I would investigate the warranty esp under fair use but they all die around the 2 to 3 year mark

Oh really!! All that money for 2-3 yrs? This should not be. I will be looking into the warranty for sure. Thnx for your comment.

Our cat has been able to pull out the manual lock button, so that it is quite loose Is there a way to repair or replace it

We have had our door for years with no issues at all but the button you select to rotate through all the different open/shut door combinations is not working. I depress it but no response. I have changed the batteries but that made no difference. Can anyone help?

Marg

I would think the only option would be to open the front up by unscrewing it and see it something has moved and been broken or ??? I’d give it a go if it was me but you’d need to be pretty reasonable at DIY. Alternatively do you have anybody in your area that does electrical repairs ? Can’t think of any easier way of trying to sort it.

Has anyone ever had the door just stop working as intended?

According to ours, the batteries are fine and I can manually lock/unlock and the locks are working, but when it is in the mode to let the cat come and go as he pleases, no lock at all. Its just like a normal cat flap without the microchip reader. Has this happened to anyone else?

Marg
Marg

No. Have you tried reinitiating the cats microchip ? Sounds as if somehow it’s “lost it”.

Hi, my surepet cat door keeps saying my cat has come inside in the evenings and he is no where to be seen. I've cleaned the sensor and the batteries are charged. Any suggestions?

the only event that could be relevent to this, is my car "looking though" for several times without entering, the door clicks open then shuts. otherwise, ive had couple of miss hits, in which my cat enters but the door doesnt log it. very rare though.

Anyone experience issues with the Hub connecting? This is our second unit and it still doesn't work! We've tried everything, the cat ears keep flashing red/green. Any suggestions welcome!!! Thankyou and merry Christmas

i personally didnt have any issues. . specially it is a wird appliance. u might have issues with hub to door. i think it is a bluetooth connection so it is susceptible to distance and obstacles

I’ve had my door for about four months and it’s been great keeping the neighbourhood cats out (no more cat fights in the hallway). But recently the red light goes on and the screen goes blank with some letters on it that are hard to make out, we think the last one is an E. Does anyone know what is happening?

We are looking at getting the large one to allow our miniature foxie dog through but keep cats inside but concerned the cats might be able to follow dog out. Anyone have any suggestions?

I bought mine for the same reason, and you're somewhat right, although our cat's main escape strategy was to claw and pull at the door forcefully until it would break open and then he was out. I saw another guy complain of the same problem. Depends on your cat I guess, but I haven't thought of a solution yet. I now have an expensive hole in a door being covered up and not used.

OK thanks we are building a cat outdoor area so hoping that if they can get outside they won't worry about it. Might do cat area first

My cat flap is only 10 months old. I have recently had to change the batteries which is unusual at this time as having had one before, it went quite a while before needing to be changed. I use top quality Duracell batteries. My problem is that I have replaced with new batteries but it is still flashing. I have put two new sets in and it continues to flash. My cat goes in and out as normal. Has anyone else had this problem? I will contact help centre if not.

There are batteries on both sides of the unit (4 batteries in all). We changed the batteries on one side and couldn’t work out what the problem was.

I have a cat who's able to get out some cat doors even when they're locked from both directions. How secure are the locks on these cat doors? Anyone had issues with escaped cats? He's not allowed out all the time due to being pale and needing to stay out of the sun, so need him locked in for the afternoons during summer.

My cat figured it out after a week or two of pulling and clawing. I've watched him do it and it's baffling. Somehow he pushed the tab down and pulls it back at the same time. There's also been a couple of times where the door hasn't latched after the dog leaves. Now I have a box of books covering the flap and nobody gets to use it.

Hi we have had a Sureflap cat door for nearly 5 years and it worked really well. In the last 2 weeks our cat can't seem to get in as the door doesn't unlock until her head is past the flap. We tested this by first manually pushing her in & then lifting the flap to listen & see the lock mechanism activate. She now wakes us at night pawing constantly at the door with no success. Any ideas what the problem is and yes we have replaced the batteries :-) Thnks

Hey, just installed cat pet door. Works well. Only issue now is, I have connected the hub and have the app and it only ever registers the cat going out. It doesn’t matter if the cat is going in or out, it will always send me notifications saying it’s leaving the house, never coming back in. Has anyone else had this issue?

Craig N.

Hi All, I have a bit of an issue, we have the microchip pet door & love it, purpose of it was for our 2 Maltese dogs to go in & out but have the cat remain an "inside cat" so not get outside, to do this I have rotated the unit around in my glass window ( located in Alfresco area so out of the weather elements ) so the dogs can place their heads into the tunnel from inside the house, it releases the locks & out they go, to come in they just push the flap in, works well for that for 1 year now however the dam cat has now worked out that he cant get out, he is not programmed but he hooks his nails in between the flap & unit, pulls flap backwards towards him, puts his head under the flap & outside he goes. We have tried everything we can think of from cutting his nails as short as we can but this only works for 2 or 3 days then they grow enough for him to get out, mittens, nail covers etc he wins every time eventually. Obviously this unit cant work both ways I'm assuming as it would need a tunnel both sides to read microchip, any other ideas or anyone had the same issue trying to achieve what we are ? Could be a good idea for a new design one for it to work both ways lol. Thanks in advance

I wish we read this review before wasting our money on buying it. We have the same issue. One dog who needs to go in and out and 2 cats that are strictly inside cats. Did you work out a way around this? I'm so angry we wasted our money

How long after the dog uses the door will the mechanism lock to stop unwanted visitors?

Vonster
Vonster

My doors lock again after about 5 - 10 seconds of a pet going through. Remember it is only one-way lock system, as long as you are only concerned about unwanted animals coming into the house (lock works to stop incoming animals) but any animal can leave the house freely as the lock won't work on outgoing pets if that's the way you install it.

Marg

Depends on which model you have. Ours keeps the cat in or out or both plus there’s a two way reading unit available as well
