Modern Group WA - What a scam!!! We were looking to have our roof restored and requested quotes from three companies. Two came in between $7-9K. Then Moderns! Lady on the phone was great. Called multiple times to make sure all was good for the appointment (Aug 7th @ 9:30am). Insisted that both myself and wife were present (first alarm bell). … Read more
[Name Removed] showed up, albeit 10min late. Very pleasant. Went around the house, stomped on the roof, then the games began! He came in with a sign and started his spiel about the company via an old dilapidated folder, noted products were all made themselves (didn’t use Dulux Roof Membrane - second alarm bell) and tried the anti-fungal spray upcharge.
Then it got interesting. He wrote a bunch of numbers down on a piece of paper, starting price of $29K! Talked about their marketing budget being part of the cost and if we put a sign up we could reduce this price down by $3K
Then a fake phone call to the marketing department in front of us, played the advocate part well and got another $7K off the price if we agreed to have the sign out for 20 weeks.
Now we are sitting at $19K, still more than twice what the other two had offered. He said we had to commit now to get that price. Well enough was enough so we turned to him and said that we had other quotes coming in and would make a decision shortly. We requested he write up his proposal and email to us, we would review with the others. He hesitated and was a bit surprised and then wrote down the final offer on a piece of paper and gave it to us! No description of the works to be done, no T&Cs and no Warranty/Product descriptions!! (third alarm!!). And no, we did not get a copy of the “free” 33-point roof inspection he mentioned! We ushered him out and never heard from them again.
Moral of the story is - Always get multiple quotes, even if someone comes recommended, as it helps educate yourself on the scope of works and to determine what the true value of the job is.

exhaust fan opening onto the electric cooker. I called Moderns and was told someone would come to check it, nobody came. This was after I gave them another one star review, (to which their managing director in WA promised to have someone check the roof) saying that they had upped my original quote of $6000 to $10000, I had to get finance to pay it off. I'm still paying it off and water is still coming through onto the cooktop. If I look up through the fan opening, I can see light between the roof tiles. I've had to place a melamine tray over the hobs when they're not in use (see pictures). I may have to call them yet again to get them to rectify this. I will NEVER deal with them again after this awful experience. STAY AWAY from this company, their after sales service is non existent.
Follow-up · I don't know. Someone replaced a badly degraded tile (god knows how that was overlooked by the roof contractor in 2023, who obviously did a shoddy job) that was leaking water onto the stovetop. Don't Purchase Outdoor Blinds - Buyer Beware Was quoted and paid top dollar, for what was promised to be top quality/commercial grade outdoor blinds. Original installation was carried out by a tradie who I later discovered had not been properly trained in the product, as their main installation guy was off work injured. issues to be recetified, including parts breaking, due to original incorrect installation. Last month, one of the blinds free-fell over 1.5m (approx 10kg weight dropping), nearly hitting my wife in the head. A "Major Fault" under Australian Consumer Law (which required suppler to provide a full refund), includes safety issues. A 10kg drop from that height could be fatal, especially to my kids. Have asked for full refund, but the supplier is refusing, as the manager claims he doesn't think that it's a major fault. Do not trust this company, especially the outdoor blinds division in Perth.

No show to appt! Made a poor excuse of cancellation of the appt because of not answering a call. I've never had a company be a no show if they didn't get a call back. he tried to put it back on me that's their company policy to be a no show if you don't answer their call. If that's the case, you should have that in all your appt bookings notice and that should be your company slogan, haha. "No answer = No show, even though you've made the appt intentionally." Haha

Our roof was previously restored in August 1996. We have been absolutely delighted with the wear and tear , going through many storms etc. and it is only now, in 2026 that we are looking for a do-over again, to see us through with a safe roof for the next 20 years or so! Had roller shutters fitted to my bedrooms which are double sliding doors this was about 7 years ago and to this day I have not had one issue with them. I fitted the rechargeable battery packs and I am still using the original battery packs . The rollers are closed every night and opened every morning . Very reliable. The experience was excellent and i have had no trouble with the shutters since installation 2020 – The Rep was very Professional and friendly and delivered the product as promised but with only 2 battery operations although there is 4 units on the walls. No customer service – I've already paid the deposit. Waiting. I'm trying to book a time for my roof restoration. Waiting. Every time I call I'm told the person I need to speak to is busy and they'll get back to me. Waiting. Finally, I get a phone call, but I'm busy and can't answer. The message says he'll send me an email. Waiting. They should change their name to Wait Watchers.
Pushy sales techniques - Please avoid to save yourself an uncomfortable experience – Don't waste your time getting a quote from this group. Unless you are immune to hard sell tactics and like a laugh, avoid as the process is quite uncomfortable. I had the WA representative arrive at my house for a measure and quote, what should be an hour maximum turned into 2.5hrs of hard sell. No physical written quote at the end and a stream of sales pitches like, only available now, 50% discount, the requirement to advertise for them with a sign out front for 16 weeks to get the 'discount' and a constant hard sell, including a call to his 'boss' to get a further discount, to buy what looks like a decent product, but is overpriced for what it is, in fact double the price of competitors quotes. They are Australian made and that is worth something but not double the price.
I was not financially in a position to spend 12K on blinds, my budget was half that, and the hard sell almost had me signing up using a payment plan which thankfully needed paperwork from me that I did not have time to do at the time and said I would do later. My get out of free jail card, thank goodness.
I had difficulty getting the salesman to leave and I was made to feel very uncomfortable for expressing my concern at investing so much money. He kept saying, I hear you, but he didn't, he was after a sale and had no qualms about signing me up for something I was obviously not comfortable with. I live in a nice but simple home, not in the prestige suburbs in a multimillion dollar house and this kind of expense would have been over capitalising.
Please save yourself the stress and 3 hours of your time that you will never get back, and avoid this company. There are plenty of other providers for plantation shutters, many offering good quality products, decent salesmen who know their product and offer a quote without the hard sell.

Satisfied – Two sets of blinds installed. One in kitchen window the other in second bedroom window. Electric controlled by one mobile controller. Installation carried out as as quoted and cleanup afterwards. Only needed to seek help on one occasion we had left controller sitting in second bedroom base (which is unpowered).
