Im thinking of buying a Nissan skyline coupe 350 GT V35. I drove it and goes great. Back Brakes squeak when you press them. Both bumber bars a a bit cracked. A couple of small rips on leather sitting. Guy selling only $4000 No log book. 99500kms. Why so cheap? What should I know about this car? I kind of like it. Goes quick n hard.

Hi George, Yep, this is one hellava car! There are a few major points you need to know. 1 - This is a performance car, and therefore requires maintenance, which can be very expensive. Not because it's difficult mind you, but because it's a performance car. It does require more time than your regular car, even for an oil change. Removal of bottom engine panels (2) just to get to the oil filter will annoy most home mechanics. 2 - Parts can be expensive....do not go to ANY dealer unless you want to regret buying it in the first place. (eBay can be very good for most bits....brakes, filters, radiators, rotors etc) 3 - These cars were meant to be driven quite hard, so many "consumables" will require replacing. Brake rotors and pads, sway bar bushes, all hoses etc. 4 - Check to see if major services have been performed. Replacement spark plugs, timing chain, transmission service, cooling system flush, shock absorbers etc. There are some foibles with this cars.....one that springs to my mind is the thermatic fan......the carbon brushes can wear down quickly, and this causes the fan not to work(or only intermittently).....then the car WILL overheat very quickly. No amount of water will keep you cool....Replacement fans are rare and expensive even from the wreckers. This is certainly a great car for the budding mechanic, as you WILL be spending lots of time on it. You need a friend who is a mechanic to guide you. Finding a good example that has been looked after, will be hard though. Most have been abused, and have hidden issues. Paying to get things done will bankrupt you in no time. If you do however, decide to go ahead, don't drive it like a maniac, until you have everything checked and fixed. This car is very rewarding for person that "understands" cars
