spent around 2 weeks with really no care or investigation into the fracture..now.down the road in time and having 3 spinal cortisone injections which dident help my pain at all , I was told that the fracture should have been cemented at the time I was in North beaches hospital , and I would not have had to go through all these years of pain..I am now waiting to see a specialist at another hospital hoping and crossing my fingers that he/she can take away my unbearable pain, which should have happened when I first had the fall. I wish I had the money to somehow sue North beaches hospital for all the years of pain I have gone through, but unfortunately I'm just an average person who can't afford that route, but this is how angry I feel
Follow-up · My discharge was rather different, as I live in Port Macquarie the "four ladies that interviewed me" regarding my discharge " asked me if I would fly up to Port Macquarie which I replied no to as I could not walk, they then supplied a road ambulance which I and another patient going to Warhope for further treatment, the trip was rather long… Read more
Follow-up · I had no so called follow up. I was sort of "thrown out " NBH has never contacted me. I'm afraid my GP had to deal with my problems and is still after all this time trying to help me.i advise people not to go there what so ever, go to a hospital that really cares for you
The sister in charge of the ward my husband was in nearly killed him. I gave them an exact list of medications but this was not followed through. My husband had Parkinson's and dementia and it was important that this list was followed 100% and this was explained.

Northern Beaches Hospital - Patient Care Priority – I have recently been recipient of the care and services at Sydney’s Northern Beaches Hospital over an extended period. Patient care and staff standards totally exceeded any expectations that I had prior to admission. The doctors, nursing and support staff were absolutely wonderful. The facilities are ‘leading edge’, clean and comfortable and the… Read more
variety and standard of meals was excellent. As a Northern Beaches resident, I feel comforted that we have easy access to such outstanding medical services.
Bugs Ironed Out - A blessing for the people on the Northern Beaches – No longer having to endue the ageing Manly Hospital, or the crowded RNSH. Finally a world class hospital for the Lower North and Northern Beaches. The previous howls of dissatisfaction should finally abate. off it's troublesome birth. The modern flowing foyer, fanning out to the various departments and levels. My wife was admitted with efficiency and professionalism. Staff, nurses, doctors, specialists all worked in unison to assist each other in making my wife comfortable whilst taking tests and working towards a diagnosis. Her room in Ward 4A was spacious, modern, clean, and very well equipped. In total, she was seen by no less than 3 doctors, and attended to by at least 6 nursing staff. Though my wife's stay may be prolonged, I know she will be well looked after by some of the best health professionals in this country, in one of Sydney's newest teaching hospitals. Bravo Northern Beaches Hospital.

Very disappointing.... It was my partners first ever surgery at the age of 66. He was booked for an operation with a booked bed for overnight stay. He came in as a private patient and paid an excess of $500 for the Surgeon, another $500 for the… Read more
anaesthetist and another $500 dollars excess for the bed. We arrived at 6am, he was called to OT around 9am. The operation went well apart from his grumpy anaesthetist who charged a fortune and spoke to him for less then a minute before the surgery. Lucky he had a great anaesthetic nurse and ICU registrar. After surgery he arrived in Recovery, all went well with the care of the lovely nursing staff. Once he was ready to go to the ward, the ward 5A could not receive him due to bed-block. The bed he was due to be in had been booked months in advance. The cost of that bed was well over $5000 - paid for by his insurance company with the $500 excess paid by him. He was not able to move to his room for 5 hours. Imagine coming out of surgery sore and hungry, being given a not very nice sandwich (he missed lunch in the ward), and listening to the on-going alarms from all the monitors for 5 hours. Finally he got to the ward where he was given a very average meatball dinner. The nurses were kind and he was well cared for in the ward. Thanks to [Name Removed] and the night nurse. He was kicked out of his room too early and sent to the Transit lounge where the chairs are very uncomfortable while he had to wait for his discharge letter and meds. This system is truly unacceptable and could be so easily fixed with some thought and concern for patient's well-being. I feel strongly about asking for the $500 excess back with regards to the room.
Follow-up · Safely take the patient through the anaesthetic- which he did. No discharge communication- just the usual discharge letter- which is all that is expected after surgery. Then a f/u appt with the surgeons nurse. No other contact post op. Post discharge support was not required by the patient.
I'd like to thank the staff who handled my mothers passing last week.Their care and compassion was outstanding especially the lovely Irish nurse in ED who made her last hours more comfortable.
Follow-up · When mum was in emergency they transferred her to a single room and said stay with her as long as you want. Then when she was transferred to a ward the head nurse explained she was dying and that she was not coming out and told my sister and I what hapens next.I dont think the experience could be improved it was far better than dealing with the nursing home which by the way had palitive care but sent her to the hospital asap.

I had day surgery 3/7. Arrived at 6:30am paperwork at Admission was fantastic and then brought upstairs by a beautiful Scottish lady who is a volunteer at the hospital. Had my surgery by my wonderful Dr and I could not have been looked after any better from the start of my visit to NBH until I left. The nurses in recovery are truly amazing. 10/10 to all the hospital staff from administration right through to our wonderful Drs & nurses. Thank you.
I have been admitted three times into northern Beaches Hospital within about the last 18 months and i have been looked after exceptionally well. This admission was through Emergency where I was fortunate that they were not extremely busy at the time and this ended up being a life-threatening condition. It’s not all bad – I have on at least five occasions since the hospital opened needed to use their services as both inpatient and outpatient. I had a bad experience at Northern Beaches Hospital. On Friday my Mum who is 92 was taken by ambulance to hospital with a sore swollen and a rash. We waited in emergency for 5 hours and finally we went home as they were busy and people were sleeping and lying down in chairs. It has very upsetting and not acceptable that medical care is terrible.
Northern beaches hospital early pregnancy assessment triage nurses are a big joke, they are insulting racists who are not compassionate about patients, instead keep making fun of patients’ medical history, not professional at all!

My wife and I have had terrible experiences with the NBH over the past 2 years. The list of concerns is just too long to include. The experience was so bad that last year I insisted that I be driven to Royal North Shore ED rather than go to the NBH. RNS, although an older facility and very busy, was a far superior experience. Cannot fault the service. Everything was done so well. From ED to xray to CT to the operation all in the one day. Doctor and nursing staff were great and took great care. Thanks to Isabel from day surgery for great nursing care pre and post op and Dr Chan for great surgery
Sounds very similar to Mona Vale Hospital in the 60's. I gave birth there on my 21sat birthday, and given such cruel, yes cruel treatment. Just locked in a room at 80 d no cooling, no fluid was given. The result, when the doctor came off the golf course, was a baby with damaged bleeding brain. New hospital, and it was a joke.
I'm 78 and have the heart condition atrial fibrillation. I went into nbh in 2023 for gall bladder surgery and had to stay overnight. Firstly they 'misplaced' my bag containing my medication, all my clothes, glasses, phone etc. When evening came and I was due for my heart medication I was told they didn't have any and I'd have to wait till morning.… Read more
I explained to the nurse I had to have it every 12 hours to avoid going into fibrillation. She said the pharmacy was shut, (it's only open 9-5), and I'd just have to wait. She didn't seem to understand the importance of heart medication, and worse still she didn't seem to care. I suggested getting some from the cardiac ward, but she said she didn't have time. Just then my bags were delivered and I was able to take one of my own pills. I was lucky, how many people are not. I've been in nbh numerous times, and each time has been a nightmare, this is just one example of the problems I've experienced. In future if I need hospital care I won't phone an ambulance, I'll ring a taxi to take me to royal north shore hospital.
Emergency is an absolute joke. It is like a circus. Offered panadol – Would prefer to give it zero stars. Very bad multiple experiences in emergency. Drunk people. Was told sorry noone on ultrasound and we dont want to call them in. Bleeding heavily. Discharged late at night in the rain.
Disgraceful excuse for a public hospital – Terrible excuse for a public hospital. In the old days a doctor would ask - how can I help, the first question from a doctor there is - are you private or public- briefly time and time again sent home from there after being urgently sent there by our local doctor. After finally seeing a specialist - not at northern beaches- who booked our daughter… Read more
in the next day for an emergency operation. My brother presented after having a mild stroke and was sent home - Three days later he had a large stroke and now needs care to live whats left of his life. We went to RNS as we didn’t trust northern beaches and when the doctors tried to get my daughters medical records they refused to send them. Thank you very much Brad hazard for totally letting down our area. I bet if you or your family is sick you don’t go there. Healthscope should be kicked out and nsw health should take over. Would have given a minus score if possible.
Emergency excellent ward 4c toxic – I was admitted to emergency by ambulance shaking and convulsing. I was.positive to covid which attacked nervous system where vomiting and diahorea was horrific. x ray i was admitted to ward 4c. As I entered the room I took a photo of view. I was yelled at by nurse like I was a prisoner doing the wrong thing. He was annoyed again when i was not steady on feet when getting on weighing machine. Lunch and dinner was left outside my door and I heard nurse say to delivery person..don't take the food in she has covid. No one ever brought in any food it was left outside. I was told.not to open door so no food... I was starving and ignored. No water and drinking from dirty tap in room. I was told I was approved for anti virals at 3pm and that they were ready by a pharmacist who came up... 10pm came and nothing..i was worried and after pressing buzzer no one came. I was finally given medication after my daughter intervened. It was the worst experience ever in my life in a hospital. I was hungry thirsty and no medication. No care being....yelled at and feeling scared. I asked to discharge myself early. My daughter was irate and asked the names of the unit nurse manager from 4c.and the nurses who attended me. They were not given. I asked for their names but they ignored me and asked about staff who belittled me and yelled. Finally on the last night at 10.15pm a night nurse brought me tea and sandwich. I was so grateful as starving as I was told there was no hot water by the other nurses .. no tea no coffee no food...I was told not to open door so food left outside all lunches and dinners left outside. Surely this shocking behaviour needs to be reported as i had nightmares for months after...they refused to.give me my blood pressure medicine as well...only when i left did i get them.back... Why....is this my punishment for having covid and not having covid injections due to an auto immune disease. It has taken me 2 years to write this as I was traumatised. I called the emergency doctor to be released early. She was excellent and said she used to work with my brother Dr. Eliot Roach...gastroenterologist at mona vale and now san. She trusted me to leave. I was escorted to lift with the same surly behaviour and the nurse even though having my discharge papers forgot them. I asked nicely and he said he forgot and went to.get them. I fled in a taxi in old clothes as i wasnt allowed visitors and ran like an inmate escaping....exhausted hungry and thirsty. Other care I have had there has been excellent..it's just 4c...it seems toxic.....Emergency was excellent as well. I hope no other person has to go through this. It really affected me.badly.. felt like I was being punished as it was a daily occurrence of being treated badly...thankyou and I hope nb hospital looks into this and please don't send me to.this ward again. Thankyou for time.. Denise Roach....
Go to RNS instead – Terrible. Have on multiple occasions gone to this hospital in a 10/10 pain and uncontrollable and unbearably painful spasming due to chronic illness, making me unable to walk. effective pain medication, incredible nurses, multiple visits from rheumatologists, and working with a physio to improve my mobility and help me walk again. Will never go back to NB. Go RNS instead if you actually want help.
Great staff and lovely well planned hospital a great addition to Northern Beaches – I was discharged from Northern Beaches hospital last Monday. I was impressed with the quality of nurses who were all attentive and caring, the beds were comfortable for a hospital and felt it was more resort like than hospital like. Great facilities such as a kitchen on each floor for patients to use and excellent medical facilities. Clean and pleasant.

Total neglect of my 87 year old mother – My 87 year old mother was settled into a room waiting for an operation on a head injury. I go in to visit at lunch time. No washing to bring home. process what's going to happen to her. We were all settled in to the room preparing for the surgery and a nurse comes in to tell us she needed to move Mum to another room. This was extremely upsetting for both of us. Mum had requested pain medication 12 and by 3pm she was still waiting. Then she informs me that last night she asked for something for her pain at 7pm she was screaming out to the nurses at 9pm - still in pain. Tomorrow I hope to see one of her doctor's and see if we can move her to somewhere where she will be properly cared for. My father passed away in Northern Beaches Hospital but we had family member's staying day & night to ensure he was cared for properly. I probably won't be able to sleep tonight worrying about my Mother being neglected. I worked all my life caring for young children and they were given all the love and care they deserve.
Bad day turned in the right direction by an excellent staff – Thank you Northern Beaches Hospital for quickly allaying my fears and promptly going ahead with the unplanned procedure. The staff is unbelievably friendly, helpful, professional and… Read more
efficient. They work tirelessly, always on their feet pounding the vast corridors of the hospital, and doing work promptly. In the ER triage went quickly and by the time I filled in the forms as a first time patient they took me to do the canula and bloods. This process took around 30-45 minutes. This is unusually fast, could be a Monday luck. Canula and tests another 30 minutes, followed by a few hours in the fast track corridor where I got on the IV drip. This was not comfortable, but no beds were available. Stayed here till taken to the operating theatre. When I asked for pain killers I got some within about 30 minutes, which could have been better, but definitely because the nurse was doing a million things at a time, and hat to check with the surgeon. Anna the anesthetist nurse was extremely calming (I’m a scardy cat), dr Le Page came to the waiting area to explain what will happen, answered my questions patiently and went out of his way to connect me to someone on staff about my admission. The nurses everywhere were all wonderful and upbeat, it’s awe inspiring. My nurse this morning (Kelly) is an excellent professional and super friendly, I can’t believe how lucky I got all the way. I guess no chance winning that 30 mil this Thursday, used up the lucky stars. While waiting in the fast track corridor with the drip in our arms, an old woman with a bandaged arm was grumbling something about treating private patients first, but that is simply not true. I was Medicare, and got 5 star treatment. Thank you ❤️
Disgraceful – 0 Stars - You have to rate 1 star but I actually give NBH -0 Stars After being referred from Mona Vale Urgent Care with a medical diagnosis, my son and I waited for 4.5 hours yesterday before he was discharged on Panadol for Gastro. Terrible – Terrible experience overall. I had to take my 11 month old daughter to ED at 10pm. Initial triage was quick which was great. Once we were in the paediatric ward - things went downhill. Took 5 hours before we were seen by a doctor. Doctor was very condescending to me the whole time. She made comments like ‘you came on the wrong night’ and ‘in the… Read more
NHS it’s up to a 36 hour wait’, insinuating we were ‘lucky’ with these wait times. Her attitude was surly and aggressive. She then fabricated details in our discharge summary which simply werent true. Weve previously been to this ED and staff have been much more pleasant.
Awful – impossible to get help when needed. Took 7 hours sitting in a filthy room post admission before any acknowledgment. Every time there was a handover something was missed forcing me to have to chase the basics myself. I would consider the local Vet over this under staffed basket case of a hospital. 5 out of 5 – I am being discharged today (20th June) from NB Hospital I have been in for 4 1/2 days in Ward 5A and I must say a great thank you to everyone who looked after me. They could not have been any better or more caring. I will be back for surgery in July and I have every faith and confidence in the staff to look after me. Well done!
Wait times in ER – Was seen straight away in ER due to chest pain and shortness of breath, this was very appreciated. to see doctor and get results. Something has to change as this is absolutely ridiculous.
Edit... So I sat in ER for 16 hours before getting a bed. Northern Beaches Hospital you need to do better. Your staff looked to be at breaking point from being so overworked, there were sick people lying on the floor freezing cold for hours, young children not being seen for 9 hours, it is incredible that in Australia, our hospital is so understaffed and we have inadequate care for very unwell people. I hope some government 'person' reads this to realise the extent of how bad our medical system really is, stop throwing money overseas and to stupid advertising campaigns, and put money where it is desperately needed, our healthcare system. Imagine if it was your loved one waiting for 16 hours, unwell in an uncomfortable chair needing medical assistance.
Lack of communication – My husband was taken there with suspected gallstones in so much pain. They put him on pain meds and antibiotics. The surgeon came and saw him for 2 mins and was never to be seen again. They had him on clear fluids for 2 days so he thought he was going to be operated on - and they confirmed gallstones. Next thing we know he is being discharged! No one able to say why, what the plan is etc good one! Go to RNSH next time
Waiting time – My seven year old daughter was complaining of a really bad earache and still after pain meds. waited the first 2 hours without anyone arriving into the reception area, I asked reception after 3 hours if there were doctors on. I was told that because my daughter wasn’t a priority, we would need to wait, but of course their are doctors, then people started coming in and we were still waiting, 4.5 hours finally got to see a DR. They apologised for the wait and explained they only have 1 doctor on duty in the early mornings.
Totally understand about Emergencies being a priority, if you are thinking about seeing a Dr on weekends in the early morning, you could be spending a lot of time sitting around if you decide to go to hospital. Overall it was a 6 hour trip from home to hospital and back again, even though we live 15 mins away. I definitely won’t be doing that again… learnt my lesson.
Very Professional – Members of my family including myself have had some major health scares. I can’t praise high enough the professional & care given to us on all occasions by the Surgeons, Doctors & Nurses who work there, high respect Thank You. Jenny
Wont ever return! – My daughter arrived with a very infected abscess on her upper right thigh on Monday evening, once she went through she was put in a plastic recliner chair and IV antibiotics were administered. attended to her 50 minutes later as she needed to use the bathroom. She had an ultrasound Tuesday morning and a Dr saw her to inform us she needed surgery to put in a drain however the next morning when I was there for her dressing change I discovered there wasn't a drain, instead it was a wide open wound that required saline soaked gauze inserted in this hole to prevent it closing and needed redressing daily. The dr attended who woke my daughter up and without any warning ripped off the dressing that covered the site and just pulled out the gauze without saying anything and when my daughter screamed in pain and burst into tears her only response was oh well it needed to be done. Upon discharge on her paperwork Sydney Home Nursing was to attend and literally as we walked out they said go to the Medical Centre downstairs near emergency to have the dressing changed however the next day we attended to be told oh we can only do this once here you'll have to go to your local medical centre. We are now paying privately to have a nurse attend as my daughter even with 10mg of endone is still in so much pain even just to move. Needless to say NB Hospital will be the last place I will attend in the future.
Best Medical Experience – Just had the best experience with my 7 year old daughter. Taken to emergency, triaged fast, sent straight through to paed ward and recieved wonderful treatment and service. We had a young nurse doing work placement who attended to us in between Dr. After thorough testing, observation and diagnosis we were discharged with numerous follow ups and reassurance. A wonderful experience at a stressful time.
Rate highly, I had no problems at NBH – Never thought to review a hospital until I came across this listing. I am a local to this hospital and had not been admitted to any hospital in 42 years. seen to promptly in ED, with a wait time for treatment commensurate with the gravity of my reason for being there. Admission was a breeze, all the records were in order, and they liaised with Medibank who covered me. I did not have to do a thing. All the staff were excellent. They were attentive, polite, thorough, and every one of them knew their job and their place in the chain of treatment. There was nothing wrong with the food while I was there, and all follow-ups went perfectly. The day procedures were also fine, no issues at all with admission or post-op or discharge. Was always treated politely and respectfully and kept informed at every step. My particular experience was that I could not fault any visit there, but I appreciate that was not the case in many other reviews.
