Ozito BSR-800 / BSR-1000

Don't buy this – With variable speed, and the small front roller, this looks like a good machine. Unfortunately the drive system is not up to the task, as under any reasonable pressure, the sanding belts just slip, thus rendering the machine totally useless. Save a bit of money, and get the cheaper non-variable speed model (BSR7000), and you will be sanding trouble free for years. (Ozito .. are you listening? Fix this issue, and you will have a winner).
Purchased in at Bunnings Warehouse for $120.
Did not last 5 minutes ! – I purchased a set of 3 sanders from Bunnings, one of which was this belt sander. I kid you not, it did not last five minutes before the motor started smoking and the smell of something burning emanated from the motor, the motor had burnt out ! I took it back to the Caloundra store and after some messing around by the staff (middle age ladies who did not know what to do) I was given a Ryobi 800w as a replacement. The Ozito model was sub-standard and is of extremely poor quality.

can be OK – I've had 3 of these over the last 10 years. The quality is highly variable, but they are very cheap for a fairly high powered sander. They kill drive belts pretty easy - one shredded its drive belt after 2 hours use. When the bearings go, they melt the case (especially Ozito use plastic bearing seats), and that's unrepairable. My current sander has been apart and had its bearings checked yearly. So far so good after 2 years of moderate use.
What's more annoying is Bunnings' return policy. On the sander that shredded its drive belt (same week, 2 hours use), they would not accept a return since it was a "consumable" part and could not replace the belt since it was out of stock. Complete copout and left me with a useless tool. I ended up ordering several new belts from Brisbane Bearings which lasted forever.
Screaming noise and no refund – I purchased this sander (BSR1000 Watt model) for a small job while interstate as I didnt have access to my old belt sander. All I needed it for was to sand back the original stain coat from two feature wooden poles at the front door of the house. These had already been sanded and stained 8 years ago. Not a large job by any means.. After a few minutes of sanding the sander is emitting a screaming sound that appeared like a bearing was faulty. The belt had already been adjusted and was tracking correctly, so I ruled that out as an issue. I am familiar with using 4 types of belt sanders orbital sanders mouse sanders and multi-function tools so I am aware not to put too much pressure on the device and let the sander do the work. However when it started emitting this screaming noise I gave up and took it back to Bunnings . They tested it on concrete for 30 seconds and said there was nothing wrong with it and it must have been the timber surface that was at fault.? Low Cost and Recommended by Bunnings Staffer Started to emit screaming sound. Dust catcher kept falling off.
