Works, but not well – The slide scanner works well enough, although its a bit fiddly to use. However the picture quality is poor - not terrible, just not very good. I can get better quality by photographing the slides with my Panasonic TZ80 compact camera - I was hoping the slide scanner would be better quality and easier to use. It's slightly easier to use, but not… Read more

enough to justify the poorer quality image. The scanner crops the edges of the slides and the preview image on its screen doesn't match the cropping in the resultant image, all of which is annoying. If you just want a cheap record of your slides and you don't care too much about the quality and the cropping it's probably okay.

MASSIVE CROP OFF PHOTOS – I tried this with both negatives and slides with fair success. Quite good reproduction when viewed through my Google Chrome. BUT, with photos (which degrade quickest and are generally what you want to preserve) it was: 1. very fiddly to set up. Had to manually move little plastic arms (not easy) that hold the photo, for each different size photo… Read more

2. unless you are VERY careful (and even then it falls out) I found that the photo was shaken from the frame as you removed it. VERY difficult to retrieve from inside the unit, which cannot be opened 3. MAIN GRIPE. The unit severely crops the photo. So, for example, on a 6x4 photo the unit cropped 1.25" from both left and right side as well as about 1" from top and bottom. This meant that in a family photo group 2 or 3 people (or more) were removed and many were decapitated. There is no way around this as the unit is fixed and provides for no adjustment. It is therefore NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE, given the claims. Unfortunately, my research prior to purchase was limited to looking at claimed capabilities of the various machines. For some unknown reason I failed to do my usual check of reviews and instead believed the claims (it was late at night when I purchased online from Officeworks). About to return the unit. My recommendation: Pretty easy to set up (I am 73 and no tech whizz) and did a quite reasonable job on negatives. For anything else, DO NOT BUY.

Should never have been released on Australian market – Instruction manual written in incredibly poor English and difficult to follow. Operation of the unit itself is not intuitive. Many problems establishing a USB connection to PC and the trouble shooting advice on this in the manual was useless. Show details

Not fit for purpose – First use 26th January 2020 but purchased in October 2019. Scanned photographs all come out with a black frame around them, they are grainy, blurred and hazy. Have used Kaiser Baas previously and there is no comparison. This unit is not fit for purpose. Show details

Most useless thing Ive ever bought ! – Wouldn't even start up! The cord wouldn't connect properly as it was so badly made and didn't match up properly. And then after trying several times the whole of the connection disappearing back into the casing, never to be retrieved. !! Badly made Chinese crap, should not be on the market, totally useless!

The russian roulette of photo scanners – Bought this product, it was faulty (the internal camera that takes the photo of the photo was blurry and out of focus), returned it and got a new one, new one was broken too. The machine itself is garbage, very cheap light plastic and nowhere near worth it's price, don't try your luck.

Instructions hard to follow – The instructions were hard to follow and it is probably a translation problem. Too many modes and buttons to use and hard to do the required sequence, quality of slide scans very poor - not good enough to bother printing. Only managed to scan slides after searching the web for help and better instructions.

SD Card – I suggest that the machine is defective. The Qpix works really well when it is functioning. Mine is working fine - it likes me to put the SD card in first before I turn it on. Otherwise, you will have to turn it on and off before it will work. But given the scanner is sound, you should not have a problem.

Me EJ – Says no sd card then immediately says sd card detected please restart. Turns itself off. You restart and it just says the same thing again and turns off again. Over and over again. Can see pictures if no sd card. Look like negatives shocking quality. What should I do?

I think it should be OK – My Qpix PS-970 was a Christmas Gift. I am an amateur photographer. Before digital, I used to do reversal slides, because it was the cheapest, for the amount I wanted to photograph. I purchased film in bulk rolls, loaded, developed and mounted slides myself. Prior to digital, I took and stored, in sleeves, literally thousands of pictures and the… Read more

only way to show them was to use a projector. Mine is now broken so this was going to be a boon, "I can make a digital copy". Yes the Qpix worked OK, but when viewing the first trial pictures, of the 1970 something, Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, the photos had collected dust over their circa 40 years of storage and it really spoilt them. Using Coral Photo Paint, I was left with a perfectly clean picture after about two hours of cloning. As this is far too long and frustrating, I need to remove the dust first. That's not easy. If I use a blower brush, a small brush with a bulb as its handle, the dust settles again before I can stuff the slide into a dust free place. So my next try will be to use a Dyson hand held vacuum, with a soft brush attachment. The logic seems to say it will work, if the Dyson doesn't eat the film. Maybe, but I still need to try it. Watch this space.......

Answer to turns itself off Dec 12 2016 – I had exactly the same problem of turning off & returned it to Officeworks who agreed it was faulty & gave me a replacement, the replacement did the same thing so I smelt a rat & as the only thing in common was the memory card a SDXC UHS-1 (ultra high speed ) which was the only one I could find in Officeworks at the time. I went to the local K… Read more

Mart & purchased a basic SDHC card & the Scanner worked correctly ! Lesson this machine does not work with fancy memory Cards the product carton says use SD/MMC

September 8th 2017 Update: qpix ps-970 DUDS

I bought my qpix ps-970 from Aust Post in December 2011 and put it in the cupboard for one-day I might get around to using it.

Well last year my Grandson turned 21 and I thought... ahhh yes, the scanner for all his pics to put on digi... Little did I know that the THING WAS A DUD. Never been used and NEVER worked EVER. Wouldn't even turn on.

And... do you think there is a contact number available or a business supplier (wholesaler) OHHH NO.

No good going back to Aust post after 6 years of it sitting in the box. But I'm just putting it out there that I would not recommend this item to anyone. Why don't they have to have a customer service number on the box..?????

$149.00 Down the drain. I see they are advertising the same product again at Aust Post now for $139.00 8/Sept2017 - A Big NO from me.

Seek and ye will find – I have had a Qpix PS970 scanner for 2 years. My daughter and I worked out how to do photos but with a computer I didn't need that. However I purchased it to copy some very precious slides (onto USB stick), that my sister in-law had of my children as babies. These slides are now 40yrs old. After many attempts I was unsuccessful (being born from… Read more ·  1

another age). Finally, before throwing it away as a dead loss I went into Officeworks in Albany Western Australia from where I purchased it way back and a young girl gave me the confidence to try again. Now I haven't done negatives yet ! But my scanner was successful with photos and woopy doo, I can now do the slides easily. I am putting up this for those of you like me, find new age techno hard to fathom, 1. "POWER" on having put in your "MEMORY CARD" - 2. Move TOP and BOTTOM BAR to FILM SCANNER - 3. Press "MODE" select "CAPTURE". - 4. RIGHT ARROW to "FILM". - 5. "ENTER " - 6. Select "SLIDES". - 7. Start to feed your slide holder with slides loaded through the RIGHT hand side of Qpix with the small white arrow pointing toward machine and facing you. - 8. When MEMORY CARD holds all your images, remove and put into your Laptop or PC and load for folders. Don't give up .... I thought the book was useless but realize now that with my sister in-law reading the instructions as I operated it, was easier to understand.

This product is hopeless! – Bought from officeworks. Tried to scan 35mm film. Just hopeless! The manual is an insult. In fact the manual was no use at all. Does not come with the required memory stick. I will be taking it back immediately for a refund. Don't bother buying it.

IT ATE MY PHOTO – Looking forward to using my new purchase, set it up, read instructions, trialled it on a not-so-important photo, and the contraption has swallowed the photo. The photo was the correct size for the grid, was not bent, and is now languishing in the bottom of the Qpix. There is no way to actually open the Qpix to get it out. So so disappointed - going to try long handled tweezers! Might be best to blu-tak photo's to the grid!

Problems – I bought the product today and I am also disappointed. My slides come out like negatives as well and I can't work out how to transfer the pictures to my PC. So, I guess I'll be taking mine back as well. I accidently clicked on "excellent" above and I don't seem able to change it. Obviously, I don't think the product is excellent. the best – we bought this to scan Negatives and slides that were from the 50s it is so easy to use and transfer to a PC to correct . as we had a lot to do I found it wonderful not being attached to a PC . I highly recommend this product and the fact that it automatically scans and saves as a JPEG saves a lot of time. If you have a lot of slides Grab… Read more

Pleasing results – I purchased scanner last week and have successfully scanned over 1,700 negatives. The results are at least equal to those obtained from a $500 scanner which I will discard. It is quick and easy to use and once loaded scans take only seconds to complete. I recommend this product to those who have a large number of negatives to scan . Easy to use, inexpensive.

Qpix Does Not Perform ! – I purchased a Qpix PS970 today, 27 July 2013. I've scanned several slides with horrendous results. This product simply does not deliver what it's supposed to do. Try to understand the manual, impossible. I've got an old GAF Pana-Vue to view slides with, yes it still works and shows that the colours are just perfect on my slides. Qpix does not even… Read more

OCR CD – I know I am 75% idiot but dont need suppliers to treat me that way. I was given a QPIX PS-970H for Fathers Day. A CD disk is thrown in. It receives 2 lines in the manual: in the index (no info) on p 8 where it tells me to "Please use the provided OCR CD to organize the name cards". Huh? What name cards? converting 35mm slides to prints via an SD card. When I loaded the disc to my PC it appears to be for storing business cards as the name on the CD suggests.

Unless QPIX can starighten it all out Tomorrow, Officeworks will be doing a 'credit' for me and I'll be getting another FD present. Potential - first class . . . but From the first reading of the user manual and loading the CD, my 75% idiot factor came into play. It's going back for credit

Sliding Switches – I purchased a PS970 and have found that it scans negatives and slides very well, once you get the led light to come on. However, if you wish to change from negatives/slides to photos, the bottom switch will move to Photo Scanner Mode, but the top (longer) switch will mot move. Ergo, scanned photos cannot be acheived. Lightweight. Switches don't work.
