Riverside Pecans
1 review
I bought a 180g packet of Riverside Natural Pecans, roasted and unsalted, mostly because it claimed "Australian Grown". All I can say is if this is the best Australia can do, it should stick to growing peanuts. (In Australia's defence, I have purchased much better pecans...and some delightful macadamias.)
With a best before date of 13 Jul 2026, I felt confident that they should be fresh in October of the previous year but I was wrong. Rancid nuts were more frequently encountered than fresh tasting ones. So I sealed up the bag and forgot about them. I tried them again in February and decided I should let the company know about my experience. How can they fix the problem if they don't know they have one?
I suppose everyone can have a bad batch but isn't that what quality control is for? Maybe the person who checks the freshness of the nuts needs more training?
I reached out to the company but they felt February before the July BB was too late to be letting them know...plus I hadn't retained my docket!
Buy them at your own peril. I've shared my disappointing experience.
Follow-up · In answer to baking, if they weren't fresh enough to eat raw I would never try cooking with them. The nuts were rancid. The texture seemed fine but since they tasted bitter I didn't persist trying to us them. Size seemed regular.
