Gutless – Doesn't cut butter. How frustrating is the cut off every 5 secs. Being a boilermaker I've always said grinders can't work with battery power.! Show details

Rubbish grinder... keeps stopping even with new battery – I've cut a 130mm long x 20mm deep into soft rendercoat (normally cuts like butter with any other tool) but it has taken me well over 30mins to cut a 130mm long cut... the grinder keeps stopping and I have to reset it. Rubbish tool Show details

Not Worth The & Time Money – I brought the RAG18X 125mm Ryobi battery grinder because I have other Ryobi battery tools, so I thought ill just add to the collection. I put a concrete disc on & went to cut 30mm off a 50mm thick paver, hadn't even got halfway through the cut & it stopped. Waited an hour to see if it cools down & restart....NO Had to use the electric grinder to finish the job. Will be returning it back tomorrow. Show details

Absolute Rubbish – I had a fully charged battery, was cutting 12 mm Reo Bar, as soon as i put pressure on the grinder it would stop. Tried it several times the same thing time after time. Grabbed my 240 volt grinder and had the whole job don in under 30 seconds. Don't waste your time unless you are cutting tissue paper. Show details

Bad design poor performance – Firstly the dean man switch is almost impossible to use, you need to have king kong grip and forget using the blade vertical you have to crick your wrist over whilst holding the back button in and holding the trigger. The handle is too large to enable this.....thank god mine ended up having a faulty switch...which I begged the Bunnings people if… Read more

I could pay for the "brushless" one with a "stayput" switch. If you can't use a stayput switch then you shouldn't be using power tools. The new one is 110% better....save your money and buy the better one....its HEAPS better!!

It's The Bottom Of The Range - And It Shows – This is the least powerful angle grinder in the Ryobi range (battery powered) and that is quite obvious when you try to work it hard. It's not really underpowered but I guess that I am used to 240 volt angle grinders which are more powerful. Is the trade-off between power and convenience worth it - mostly. If you're a tradie, or a home handyman… Read more

who has some heavier work for it, spend the extra coin and go for the HP version. It'll cost you, but it would be worth it. For light work when you couldn't be bothered with using a hacksaw or a sander, it's good enough - barely.

Absolute rubbish – Purchased from Bunnings today. Cuts out after a few seconds and will not restart until rested. Then cuts out again. Will be taking t back on Monday. Bought it as have the batteries from other appliances Show details

Twice stupid in that I bought 2 – Complete waste of money. Destroys batteries too I suspect as it gets hot very quickly. Keep stopping after a few seconds on light work. Even when using new 5Ah batteries, fully charged, it stops even when battery indicates fully charged. Ryobi need to remove this tool from their range and refund everyone. Show details

Only if you have no other choice – Yes Ive got one. It was very cheap at the time. I thought that it would be useful for when no power was close, but some days you think with your eyes and not with your brain. It has a 5Ah battery that will last no longer than 15 minutes at a medium work load and then it stops. The time it takes to recharge you can get power from else where and… Read more

use a corded grinder. I find what it can do is average at best and really only suitable for small light work, although the unit is far from light to hold, rather noisy as it sounds like the disk locking mechanism is trying to engage and when you want to use this, well so far I have yet to get it to work and I have been forced to tightly hold the disk to change it. You may think that I have faulty unit but I have inspected another unit at bunnings and found it to have many of the same faults.

Ryobi R18AG4115 keeps stopping – I have one of these grinders which was purchased from Bunnings and it is the worst grinder I have ever had. My wife gave it to me for my birthday last November and I have tried to use it twice since then without any luck. The grinder keeps stopping after a few seconds cutting light material without pressure. No more Ryobi battery operated tools for me. Another unhappy Ryobi customer. Show details

Had enough time to evaluate – Grinder has performed only very light work. Nut came loose on the spiral gear on armature. I tightened it and it doesn't slip now. Is my warranty invalid because someone didn't do their job properly. Apart from that the battery does get used up quickly (2 x 5.0Ah). Handy to carry around in the tool box for when there are no pixies to run the 240volt stuff. Show details

Ok, but only when corded isn't an option – I bought this cordless angle grinder as I already had a collect of Ryobi batteries to run it with. Your corded angle grinder does not have to worry about being replaced by this cordless due to the fact that anything above very light work will cause it to come 'grinding' to a halt. (see what I did there) Not only that but it chews through your… Read more

batteries like a unattended child with a jar of lollies, easily being the most power hungry Ryobi tool I have.

It isn't all bad though. As I said I have plenty of existing batteries so I didn't have to worry about buying into a new system and the grinder itself was only $99.

As long as you don't go pushing it too hard and only ask it to do very light work it will be alright for the occasional time you need a grinder without a cord.

Works well for me – I bought this as I had a Ryobi One+ drill driver with 2 batteries & had some jobs to do where it was a pain to get an extension lead to. I would have preferred a 100mm model but they don't make one so the 115mm was it. I have a 4Ah battery and a 1.5Ah battery. The first job was to cut 4 concrete tiles on the roof. I wore out 2 concrete discs… Read more

before I could get the job done & then bought a diamond disc. I finished the job just as the 4Ah battery needed a recharge. If I'd had the diamond disc to begin with I'd have finished the job in less than half the time and half the battery charge as it cut through the concrete tiles like a knife through butter. I have done a few small jobs since and it has performed well. It does not have the power of a corded machine but is fine if you don't force it and let the tool do the work.

There are better cordless grinders out there but not for $99.00 and it comes with a 6 year replacement warranty. Hard to beat that.

It’s okay – Bought this angle grinder for the odd job around the house and its performance is average. It lacks the power of its cordless competitors and its corded cousin. It handles light cutting with ease but on the heavier stuff it was definitely struggling and I had to ease off so it wouldn’t stall. Also after putting on a fully charged battery it… Read more

cuts out or won’t start until the battery has been drained a bit or used for a few minutes.

Over all I’m happy with it since it does the jobs I need it for but I think ultimately Ryobi could have made a better product.
