Installed the fitting in the garage, expecting at least 10 years life. Started flickering after 5 years. If it was a fluorescent fitting, replace the tube or starter. Now it is a new fitting and installation cost.

Impenetrable fly graveyard – I really like the quality of the case and electrics. The option to switch to different white colours and power settings is great. The internal driver looks good quality. One major design issue though. Flies can get into the semi-sealed LED lens unit via the ceiling hole and it is virtually impossible to get the dead bodies out. You can see their silhouettes inside against the light but there is no easy way to clean them out. There are 5 holes in the back of the LED lens unit, presumably to allow heat out, but they are also big enough allow flies in. Exhuming the dipteran remains from their illuminated sarcophagus is very tricky. It requires the lights to be dismantled, including disconnecting the driver unit and earthing wires. Even then, it is difficult to clean out the flies. You have to slowly shake the lens unit at a slight angle until they line up with one of the holes in a similar fashion to one of those ball-in-a-maze puzzles. Then you can use a thin nozzle on a vacuum to suck them back out the hole. Not the best design idea for the Australian environment. Perhaps SAL are expecting biodiversity collapse to solve the issue?
