Happy campers

Happy campers were unhappy – Recently hired a camper in Tasmania. Thank goodness we didn't have to test the extremely expensive insurance. On pickup, we were warned that we would have to pay for any damage. The vehicle was very old and dirty. Brakes were almost non-existent. Brakes did fail on second last day and could have been disastrous/deadly. We lost 24 hours of our trip getting repairs. Had to have washed at a specific car wash that was so out of the way that it added 80km to the trip and was 52km from drop off point. So many hidden extra costs not mentioned in quote. Pay extra for a decent vehicle.

Beware deceptive service – Terrible service. I was rented a camper which had +20 year old tires on it; when the tire burst I not only had to pay for a new tire but the damage that was done to the camper from the burst tire. If there are any issues you will have to pay, don't believe me? Have a thorough readthrough of their terms and services.

Dodgy insurance – I would not use this service again. This company failed to treat us fairly by requiring us to pay for insurance, insisting that cracks in windows not being covered by insurance and refusing to provid me with a copy of the insurance policy when requested. They then threatened to take money out of our bond for not calling roadside assistance for a crack in the window.

I used ShareaCamper recently on a trip to Tasmania. When you book you are required to purchase insurance. The basic cover is $5 a day. There is no option but to buy their insurance. You are also required to provide $2500 as a deposit on the vehicle. After we finished using the service we went through the company to organise to repair a small crack in the windscreen.

They said the cost of the repair would be deducted from the deposit. I asked to be provided a copy of the insurance policy and referred to the relevant sections. After ignoring multiple emails, I was eventually sent an email that said any damage under $2500 would come our of our bond and was threatened that they would take money out of our bond because we didn't call roadside assistance when the crack occured.
