Real time testing – This product was hard to find in stores and so i had to rely on the specifications from the company. It does boast a lot of features and interconnectivity which is great , it also boasts a hi quality built in DAC, with options to plug it into an external unit and the list goes on. Here is where the issues i discovered. The unit doesn’t connect via Bluetooth flawlessly, there are continuous blackouts of sound, then i placed the unit closer to the BT source which eliminated the problem, but at such a close distance i was able to us n RCA cable so Bluetooth connection didn’t make sense.

The built in DAC is extremely harsh on the high ends and irritating and tiresome to the ears, the base is more of a midrange level and it doesn’t play nice deep tight base. I couldn’t listen to more than a few tracks before i had to stop the disk. I know i can connect to an external DAC, however by the time i buy one i’m better of investing that extra into a better CD player.

Its user manual is absolutely frustrating.

Since the the previous review, I have purchased an older Yamaha DSP-A1 amplifier which has a built in DAC and i am using the Silcron as a CD transport drive, i have connected the Silcron to theAmp via an optical cable, the DAC in the YAMAHA DSP-A1 reproduces magnificent sound quality from the Silcron Cd player, so i am extremely happy. But if it wasn’t for the extra purchase of the Amp, i would have taken it back for a full refund. Then again, almost any Cd player can be used like this if it has a digital/ optical output, thankfully the Silcron thought of all these additional outputs which is a huge win, so yes, in this set up i 100% recommend this player. I also resolved the BLUETOOTH connection, you need to make sure that only one device is connected to it at a time, you have to manually disconnect each bluetooth device as there is a tendency for bluetooth devices to AUTO connect themselves. Thank you.
